Shockley and Rownd and Riggen researchers, here is a tidbit you may not perhaps realize that goes along with my research questions regarding Rownd and SHOCKLEY members. Be advised I have a Rownd member who married a Riggen and they lived in the same vicinity. I have a SHOCKLEY marriage to a Rownd. I need your help working on this but... Keep reading...
This is a fact and not speculation:
There was a Goshen School located at approximately the intersection of road 78 and 17 located half way between the tiny towns of LaFayette, Stark County, Illinois and Toulon, Stark County, Ilinois. I believe this is a historical location. I am uncertain if there is a sign, school or archealogy remains of a school, but that was the name of the school and the location. I have not walked or driven to the site, however. this is what my map(s) shows.
Several members of the Rownd surname lived adjacent to several members of SHOCKLEY surname. At least one marriage between the families took place. that is a sure fact. And my ancestor Rownd married a female Riggen (Riggin).
Fact: Some SHOCKLEY members from Maryland came to Stark County Illinois as did some Rownd members also from Maryland and they lived 'next door' which might mean the distance of a couple of miles of course.
Fact: The census records which I researched trace some of the members of the Rownd and SHOCKLEY parties to this location at Toulon vicinity of West Jersey, Stark County, Illinois. At least two members of the Rownd family were flour millers by the way.
Fact: Tracing out my various Rownd and some SHOCKLEY members I find many of them living in the tiny towns and immediate vicinity of one another at West Jersey, Tuolon, LaFayette (perhaps named after LaFayette Rownd) or vice versa, and Wyoming all of which are in Stark County Illinois. In addition, the border town of Galva, Illinois which is located about a mile or so from the present day county line boundary intersections of the county line of Knox, Stark, and Henry County Iowa (on present day maps!) is a location I researched and traced into the mix.
Are you with me on this, please..
Also, the 1900, 1910, and 1920 show James S SHOCKLEY b 1844 sitting apparently in one place and living his life. Ancestry has the census indexed as Goshen, Illinois. I believe perhaps this school house vicinity to have been called Goshen but my maps of present day show no existing Goshen, Illinois. In any case at least one Rownd member and at least one SHOCKLEY member was a femal school teacher.
Anyone agree with me ?
So who might have the bible pages from the James S SHOCKLEY b 1844 generation(s). ?
Allright now...there is more to eliminate the possibility of error.... there also exists a separate and different Goshen School. (remember that there is no present day town of Goshen, Illinois) located near Goshen Road and School in Illinois in Macoupin County near the town of Palmyra. I do NOT believe this second Goshen School location has the slightest to do with the SHOCKLEY and Rownd members in the time frame of 1850 to 1880 or more, in the 'not stated' and 'unknown' segments of Stark County, Illinois.
Now maybe I helped you a bit. Can you help me a bit, too? Thanks in advance.
