Bruce S. Shoemaker, 76, formerly of Portland, NY died Thursday (April 10, 2008) at the Absolut Nursing Home in Westfield.
He was born January 28, 1932 in Summerdale, NY
the son of the late Ralph and Katherine Shoemaker.
Bruce was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked on the construction crews building Route 17. He then was employed as a steel worker at Allegheny Ludlum/AL Tech until his retirement in 1994.
He was very active in the local Boy Scouts. An avid fisherman and hunter, he also enjoyed going to the Seneca Casino.
He enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and watching sports on TV.
He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed his granddaughters.
Surviving are his children, Tammy (Salvatore) Foti of Brocton,
Tim Shoemaker of Houston,
Trudy Shoemaker of Westfield,
Stuart Shoemaker of Portland,
and Megan Shoemaker of Texas;
and his granddaughters, Annie Foti and Antonia Foti.
He also is survived by his sister, Sarah Freeman;
brother Jack Shoemaker
and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth, whom he married January 22, 1958 and who died Oct. 6, 2007;
three brothers, Paul Shoemaker,
Harry Shoemaker
and Ralph Shoemaker;
and his sisters Maude Shoemaker,
Annie Kelly,
Helma Ranney,
Mary Dawley
and Nettie Maynard.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a future date.
