Hello, I live in Ct and am the grandson of Carl (Colum) J Shortell also from Wallingford and the son of Richard. He had a brother Timothy. Timothy had no children. Can you tell me where the reunion was?

I once attended a famliy reunion in Connecticut. My dad brought me there. His name is Michael. I was always told our ancestores were from Kilkenny.

St Vincent Catholic Cemetery north of LaSalle IL seems have lots of Shortells to whom I'm related, starting with Patrick Shortell (b. 1816 Graigue, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland; m. Anne Moylan, 1840, Ireland; d. Oct. 14, 1899, LaSalle IL.)

I am seeking any info on Richard Shortell who married Catherine Quinn abt 1868. He migrated to USA in 1857 at the age of 9 from Kilkenny Ireland. He is related to the Naugatuck Valley, Ct Shortells in some way. Anyone know how?

Peasleeville — James E. Shortell Sr., 64, of the Peasleeville Road, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Pittsfield, Mass., Nov. 22, 1936, the son of John Sr. and Irene (Stevenson) Shortell.

Jim was a lifelong heavy equipment operator, having worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Adirondack Northway. He was a member of the Operators Engineers Union Local 545, working for Torrington Construction and most recently was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Steven Fuller Excavating in Keeseville.

Survivors include his companion, Lora Miner of Peasleeville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie Baughn of Plattsburgh and Colleen and Steve Mashtare of Saranac Lake; one son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Cindy Shortell of Vermontville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John Jr. and Shirley Shortell of Peru and Thomas and Nancy Shortell of Peasleeville; three stepchildren, Brad Paye, Diane Nichols and Michael Miner; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 12th, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru, with Rev. Gilbert B. Menard, retired, celebrating.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Peru Rescue Squad or the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are with the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru.

There is a Shortell in one of our family plots in Calvary Cem.
Not sure if it is the Cahills but I think it is the Purcells.
My Purcells were from Kilkenny-Castlecomer-clogh.

I am descended from Patrick Shortell, who was married to Annie (or Antie) Purcell. They were from Dunnameggan (or Donamegan) near Kilkenny city. Four of their children, Michael, Mary, James and William all came to the US around 1840. I am descended from Michael, who settled in Salem Mass. Does this match any of your info?

My great grandmother, Ann Shortel, married James Kelly on 03 June 1858 in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. She died in Jamestown, North Dakota on 24 August 1907. She would have been born around 1836-1838, reportedly in Ireland. I know the names of her children but that is the extent of my knowledge about her. I'm guessing she had siblings but I have no names. Yes, the name has been spelled Shortel, Shortell, Shortelle, Shortal & Shortall. A Shortelle family once resided in Money Creek Township, Houston County in Minnesota back about 1870. There is a Christina Shortall that is doing some research on Shortall's and I'm hoping to hear from her. She will be visiting Des Plaines, IL next month to look at some records. Do you have any info on your Shortell's that might include an Ann, Anne or Anna?

Need help on this family. Tim & Mary according to family tradition were from County Cork, Ireland. I know of 3 children; Hanna b. 1875 in Sawkill, Ulster Co. NY, Richard b. 1871, & Ella.
Hanna was married to James Leonard Freer c 1887 in St. Ann's Catholic church in Sawkill. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thomas Shortell (Shortall) was the name of my great-grandfather's brother. He was born in the Kingston, NY, area, and moved in about 1888 to Bayonne, NJ, where he became a city councilman. He died in office. If he was your ancestor, I have additional information.

My grandfather's wife was an Anna (Bennett); she was born around 1883. As we speak, write, communicate, my mother is calling my aunt, Edith Shortell to find out my grandfather's parents name. I already know that his father was a James and his mother was....awaiting my aunt...forget that; she didn't know - she's 86....Oh, well. When I have time; I'll do some research on my end. Thanks for replying.

What part of Illinois did your family settle in? We are from Chicago and the SW suburbs. My Dad was born in Des Moines and moved to Chicago in the 20's or 30's. We know very little about his Dad. My grandmother was from the LaSalle, Il area and I'm guessing that my grandfather may be from that area also.

I read your message this a.m. and saw that you were trying to contact someone with Illinois roots. My family is from Chicago. The spelling of the name is with 2 l's but I understand that back is Ireland it was with 1.
