I just recently found out that my 3rd gr-grandfather was actually a SHOUSE/SCHAUSS and related through DNa to Lewis Shouse. Can you tell me the names of the children of Lewis & Sarah (Kelly) Shouse? My 3rd great's name was James Shores/Shouse,b. 30 Nov 1798. He married married Lucy Markwood. They moved from VA to MO in the 1850's. James passed away near Kansas City on 07 July 1874.

Hi David,

My guess is that you are related to a different branch of the Shouse family (all originated from the same family that came from Germany around 1726). There are a lot of Shouse's in the Kentucky and Ohio areas. There are also a few books available that have studied the various branches. I've been trying to figure out what branch Levi belongs to. His father was born in Tennessee; but, I haven't been able to figure out who is grandfather is. Levi's children were born in the South (Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas) and primarily remained there or moved to California. His children were: John (b.1873), David (b. 1874), Marion (b. 1876), Levi (b 1877), Charles (b. 1879), Annie (b. 1882), Still (b. 1883), Scott (b. 1887), James (b. 1892). None of their children (that I know of) were named Kenneth which leads me to believe that most likely you aren't related to this Levi. Levi's son Levi had the following children: Grace, Harry, Gladys, George, and Lee Levi all born in Oklahoma between 1909 and 1918. Sorry I wasn't able to be of more help.

Joanne

I am descended from the same line. My grandmother was a Shouse, born in Palmyra township Indiana in 1911. Her father was John B. his father was George H. We traced back to Johannes Schauss who was born about 1625.
We have found that Johannes Adam Schauss born in 1704 in
Albisheim Pfalz Germany came to America in 1736 on the Ship Harle. If you look at www.immigrantships.net you can find listings of the different ships, where they originated and the listings of the passenger names and ages.

Did you ever get a reply to this message? My great great grandmother was Sarah Shouse Dean, born in PA in 1807 and living in Belmont Co., OH when she married my great, great grandfather, Abraham Dean, in 1832. We think that her father was probably Richard Shouse who lived near Abraham Dean in the 1830 census. Richard Shouse's family consisted of 2 males age 10-15; 1 male 20-30; 2 males 50-60; 1 female 5-10; 1 female 10-15; 2 females 15-20; 1 female 40-50. If you have anymore information since you posted this message, and if your John Shouse could be a brother of Sarah, let me know. We'd like to know where they came from in PA.

Frank,

Thanks for your reply. After I sent that email yesterday I happened to think that my sister had come across information about a John Shouse who was active in the Presbyterian Church in Belmont County when she was there last Sept. so I just went back to her email from last Sept. She said that she had seen information on a John Shouse who married Jane C. Robinson, both of Wheeling Twp. on 17 Apr. 1833. He was a member of the Wheeling Valley Presbyterian Assoc. in Wheeling Twp, Belmont County, in 1838.

Have you ever checked out the information that the Mormon's have on www.familysearch.org/ They have 51 John Shouse's listed (when you get to the bottom of the first page, click on the line that begins with "Matches". In the 1880 census there was a John Shouse listed
who was born in PA in 1810. His household consisted of a daughter, Sarah E. (Ellen?) who was 25 years old and a son, George W. who was 22 years old. Both parents were born in PA. The census place was Sunsbury, Monroe, OH. Also, in the 1880 census was a 13 year old boy by the name of John Shouse. When I clicked on "household" for him I found that his parents were Benjamin A Shouse, born in 1839, and Mary E. Shouse. Benjamin was a physician and both his parents were born in PA. Six children were listed, Ida, 16, John, 13, Allace M., 10, Anna E. 8, William M.,6, and Freddie L, 1. The census was in OH and all the children were born there. Do any of these names "ring a bell". I hope this helps.

Iris
I think O.S. is going to be Obediah Smith Shouse and V.T. his wife Verlinda T. (Craig) Shouse. Both Obediah and Verlinda are buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in St. Clair Co., Mo. Obediah is my husband's great-great grandfather.
