This probably the same information that you're referring to. Unfortunately, my subscription does not include the UK records. If you're interested, there is a group on Facebook called 'We are the Shrigley's'. Several of the Shrigley members currently reside in England. May be a long shot, but ya never know.

1851 England Census
Census & Voter Lists

Name: Matthew Shrigley
Age: 52
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1799
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England
Household schedule number: 46

Name: Matthew Shrigley
Spouse: Elizabeth
Birth: abt 1799 - location
Residence: 1851 - city, Cheshire, England
We have a few Mary's in our line.

I am a descendent John Shrigley - the one who came over from England. He married a Martha Pearson. I just met a distant cousin who has given me information on Martha's family going back 10 more generations or so.

I haven't found anything about John. I believe his name was changed once he arrived here. I think it used to be spelled Shrigleigh. I was told by family members he was one of 4 brothers who settled here. Once they settled, it seems the brothers spread out.

The Marys I have listed are descendents of John - two granddaughters. His DIL was also named Mary.

I'd love to take a look at what you have and see if we're talking about the same John. I'll send you an email.

Marie Shrigley was born 9 Jan 1897 to Lewis and Margaret Dunfee Shrigley. She was married to J Clayton Norris, a former mayor of Coshocton, OH. She had a brother Lewis of Columbus, OH and a half-brother Glenn Cox of Spokane, WA.

Marie's stepparents were Albert and Margaret Cox. Albert Seward Cox's parents were Solomon Vail Cox and Elizabeth Jane Seward, all of Coshocton County, OH.

I am seeking information on the Glenn Cox family.

Hi,
Your reply to Todd Srigley was sent to me, probably because I may have started this thread a few years ago.
I am interested in finding out about my wife's grandmother, Idella Juanita Srigley/Shrigley, b. ca. 1870 and raised by her maternal grandparents in Shrigley, Ontario. I have been unable to get replies from several Shrigley/Srigley relatives and what information I do get is patently wrong, e.g., Idella did not die in the 1890s but lived to a ripe old age in the U.S.
If you would be willing to assist me, might I contact you direct as the matter is rather delicate. For some unknown reason Idella left Canada in the 1890s and never returned, nor did she ever talk about her childhood or parents.
Bob Henderson, Florida

Unless I am mistaken, the book referred to [Robert Srigley and Jane Heacock and Their Descendants to Seven Generations] was self published by Norman Jolley and Alvin Srigley about 1972-80.
I think there is a copy in the Toronto North Public Library.
I also have a copy and would be willing to look for specific people therein -- given as much info as you have available.
Hi Dee,

Would it be all right if I contact you directly. This is all a bit complicated and somewhat delicate.

I can tell you that it is unlikely that Elizabeth would have married a son of Elisha Srigley and Sara Kreider as she was their daughter.

We have recently discovered a letter my wife's father wrote years ago about his mother Idella Juanita Srigley that explains a lot.

I'll be glad to share all I have, which isn't much. Elizabeth died young and I've found no record of a marriage for her. She was born November 25, 1846, and had a brother "Roley" born ca. 1840, who married Elizabeth Badgero March 04, 1862 in Grey Co., Ontario, who may be your Elizabeth.

Bob Henderson
Florida
Terry,
Don't have much help on Samuel but was wondering what you had on John Redich. Samuel was transported along with 19 other people, including Tabitha Redich and John Redlich. It appears they all may have received 50 acres of land in Maryland, but I don't know where. It may have been in Somerset Co. Md. Like I said....don't have much.

Austin

I am looking for more information on a family listed in the 1880 census, Jamestown, Chautauqua County, NY. Sam Robertshaw was b, abt. 1841 as was his wife Mary. There were two children in the house Lizzy Robertshaw b. abt. 1859 and Ellen Robertshaw b. abt. 1863. I have reason to believe that later Ellen married Herbert Emmott. I would like to confirm this. There was also a sister-in-law in the house Fannie Briggs. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thomas Shrigley b abt 1814 Virginia >Perry Co. Ohio

Wondering if anyone knows anything about Thomas Shrigley who had 4 children with a wife who apparently died bef 1850. The children are Hyram b1841, Elizabeth b1843, Rachel b1845 and Nancy b1846. These kids are living with whom appear to be relative, surnames Fowler and Moore. They disappear after the 1850 census. I do find a Thomas that seems to fit married to an Ann age 20 in 1850,
Thomas Srigley 35 1814 Virginia Bearfield, Perry, OH
Ann Srigley 20 1829 England Bearfield, Perry, OH, no children with them. In 1860 Ann appears to be poor and destitute living in an infirmary ran by Elizabeth Kincaid. It appears Thomas may have died before 1860. Anyone know whom his parents might have been or what happened to his children?

I just found this thread. I'd love more information on my Shrigley side of the family. It seems though most Shrigleys here are from Canada. I am pretty sure mine originated in the Ohio area. My ggm and ggf were both married in Ohio. Although, I know my ggm was born and raised in Kentucky.

Names I have so far:

Sydnard Shrigley?
Sydnard's Son: Lonard Shrigley & wife Monta
Lonard's son: Lawrence Shrigley & wife Elizabeth
Lawrence's son: James L. Shrigley (my grandfather)

I am pretty sure I have an aunt out there somewhere I have never met. She supposedly had a child she gave up for adoption when she was 13 or so...? There isn't any further information available.

So, any help, past or present, would be appreciated.

I assume you are Shannon White who also posted a message in 2004.

Her full name was Ethel Maude Lillian Srigley. She died 12 Dec 1951 in Owen Sound, Ontario.

In an article published in the Collingwood Enterprise Bulletin on Dec. 13, 1951, page 5, column 6, it mentions she died at the home of her daughter Annie, Mrs. Cecil Swain at 561 Third Ave. E., Owen Sound, Ontario. There was another article published in the same newspaper on Dec. 20th. which stated on page 3 column 4, section 2 that she had been a resident of Owen Sound for the past 25 years. She had spent her early life on Manitoulin Island where she married William Carr. They lived at Gore Bay, Ontario until moving to Owen Sound in 1924. It mentioned she died at the home of her daughter Annie and that she had been ill since September. Known as Lillian, she was adherent of the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She was an honorary memeber of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion and was very active in that organization. She died in her 82nd. year. Her husband William had predeceased her in 1926 and also her three sons, William, Howard, and George had also passed away. She was laid out at Kyle Funeral Chapel where the funeral service was held on Friday afternoon at 2pm. She was interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound.

She is buried in Lot 21, Range 9, West Extension.

Does this help?
Ellie

Hi Bob:

I ran across your message board at Rootsweb regarding your wife's grandmother Idella.

I have been trying to find information about her as well. I'm from the same line (Elisha Beman Srigley and Saran Ann Kreider). My great grandfather was Elizabeth's brother Daniel.

I think I contacted you a couple of years ago but I was not able to help at that time and unfortunately still can't.

I have not been able to find a birth record for Idella, marriage record for Elizabeth and George Sponhouse, nor a death record for Elizabeth. I haven't given up.

I'd be interested in finding out a little about George though and when Idella died and where. How does your wife connect? I assume Idella met and married Louis Sorensen in Toledo and I presume they had children, one of which would be your wife’s father.

It's curious as too why Idella left Canada, never to return or speak of her parents. At least she had some accomplishments in her life. Bravo for her.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Ellie
I know it's been over a year since you posted this so hopefully you still check the boards every so often.
I looked up The Black Prince on Wikipedia (free encyclopedia on the internet) and discovered he was Edward of Woodstock, Prince of Wales, born 1330, the eldest son of Edward III. He died in 1376, one year before his father so he never ruled as king.
The article you refer to shows the land given in 1256 to John de Shrigley for service to the Black Prince but he wasn't even born yet.
do you have an explanation?
Could there be another Black Prince?
Do you have a copy of the article? I notice Anna asked the same question.
Eleanor Burnett (nee Srigley)
