Thanks!

Hopefully this can help someone elses searches :)
Shroyer 332

John Francis Shroyer, son of William and Adeline Shroyer, was born in Peru IN in 1865 and died 4 Sept 1943 at Manhattan. His mother was buried at Lone Jack MO on the way out from IN. They arrived in KS ca. 1873 and settled on the Big Blue which was later called Shroyer Crossing.
Little is known of John Francis' childhood since he and all four of his brothers and sisters were orphaned and "farmed out" to different families. John Francis was raised by Samuel and his brother, William Shroyer. They fondly called him, "Little Johnny". Samuel was planning to make his home with John Francis in his late years but died before making the move and John Francis inherited his farm.
At Marysville on 25 June 1891, John Francis married Lucy Harden, daughter of William and Catherine (Driscoll) Harden, who was born 23 Apr 1874 and died in Mar 1938 at Manhattan where she and John Francis are buried in Sunset Cemetary. They moved into the "Old Stone House" as newlyweds and lived at Schroyer from 1891 until after their first five children were born.
The family picknicked at Alcove Springs, a camping spot for trappers, wagon trains, and Indians traveling the Oregon Trail. It is now a tourist attraction for local persons seeking a pleasant and interesting afternoon.
The family name is spelled without the "c" in contrast to the name of the town. The land was donated to the railroad with the understanding the depot was to be named Shroyer. The land was donated by Philllip Shroyer ad he offered the railroad quite a sum of money if they would strike out the "c" but it had already gone on record in the maps and the railroad. Philllip Shroyer also established a grave yard on top of the steep hilll to the west where one family member is buried. A rock wall was built around the Cemetary.

(Theres a website that lists this cemetary as being "haunted" by an old man...interesting tidbit that I haven't researched yet)

John Francis Shroyer and family left Shroyer and moved to Wakeeny ca. 1902 and then to Pott Co. near Manhattan in 1909.
John and Lucy's first five children were born at Schroyer, the next two at Wakeeny and the last at rural Manhattan: Florence b. 1892, m. 12 Feb 1913 Sam Kimble, son of Joseph and Mary Bell (Dempsey) Kimble; Edna b. 1893, d. 28 Feb 1974, m. 2 Jul 1913 George Nelson, son of Thomas J. and Elizabeth A. Nelson; Carl b. 1897, m.1915 Elizabeth Dobson, daughter of John Flinteth and Kate (McHenry) Dobson; Elma b. 1899, m. 1 Aug 1922 Francis Black, son of John and Emma Black; Vera b. 1901, m. 28 Jan 1921 John Mallon, son of Patrick Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Horner) Mallon; Violet b. 1903, m. 22 Jul 1922 Albert V. Weber, son of Cyrus and Jennie (Tilton) Weber; Lester b. 16 Nov 1908, d. Alma, m (1) Helen Colburn (2) Doris Whittaker; Katharyn b. 1913, m. 30 Jan 1931 Topeka, Charles Fish, son of George W. and Bessie (Willes) Fish.
