My gggrandparents are Catherine & William. How did you determine John married Susanah? I think it is a false trail. It seemed so at first; after digging around it seems not.
Go to the Morman site http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp and enter John Schuey. The family tree goes back quite a ways. "Veronica" seems to be the person. Please let me know what you think. Also, how could we find the surname for Veronica.

Kimm, I just checked an email address i seldom use and found either a very interesting, or a very unusual coincidence, in your post in april to Shuey mail list. My grandfather was john robert shuey, born jan 1860 macon co MO, died Jan 1911 Lincoln co OK. He married my grmo (born louisa co IA) in 1890 in SE KS. Perhaps due to his work, they often lived apart during their marriage. Could he be the John Shuey you are looking for? His mother was Deborah jane Bonifield b. ca1831 IL, d. ca1880s macon co MO. Please email me at: JLMiley@comcast.net

I am more interested in cora at this time. she married a william lesh and is listed on the 1910 censue with him and a daughter vera lesh age 3. was told she died in 1907. vera was then put up for adpotion in St. Louis, Mo. She was then adpoted by Ralph Sullivan. Vera lesh is my grandmother and i am having trouble tracing her back. I am assuming that cora's mother was a sarah inez jenks and father john shuey. but i have not been about to put a john shuey with her or anyone else.
any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
kimm miller
I found your message while contacting another Shuey...and in the last few lines realized that you may have the answer to the question I've been searching for. I am Dennis B. Shuey's Great-granddaughter living in London, OH. In my copy of his book, (1732-1919 version), was a picture of the Shuey home in which he was born. Not being at all familar with the area, the description of it's location was to vage to help me figure out where it is. With your wife having been born in the area, I don't suppose you would know? Are any structures still standing?. Also, in that I scrapbook historical pictures of the family...I have a formal photo of a Shuey, that I have no identification for. Is this something that you might take a look at for me if I were to scan it and send it. Thank you for you time! Barbara Barteldt

I'm sorry that I can't help you with the subject matter in the memo that prompted me to contact you...but I wanted to introduce myself to you. I am a direct descendent of Daniel Shuey. My Great-Grandfather is the author of the book entitled, History of the Shuey Family in America 1732-1919. I too, am on a search, and wondered if you had any real knowledge of the location of the Shuey homestead in Lebanon Co. PA from the early to mid 1800's. I have an old picture of the home, and a 100 year old discrpition of where it was built. But, it proves to be not enough. I would love to find out if it happens to be one of those lucky structures that has been saved as so many historic homes in that part of PA have been. Any information would be appreciated.
I would be quite interested in the information you offered. Please email me at home: paxriverbarb@hotmail.com. You have the correct names and some dates, but the info you have is incorrectly positioned. In another words you have sons married to their mother instead of their wife etc.

My line is Barbara Allen McDonald, dau of Mary Shuey Allen (Dec 23, 1925-June 20, 1985) dau of Elias Shuey (March 1, 1881 - March 20, 1971), son of Hiram Shuey (Jan. 21, 1816-May 1919) son of Henry Shuey (Mar. 3, 1793-died after 1870, found in 1870 census) son of Johanne Martin Shuey (June 20, 1750-death, will dated Jan 22, 1808) son of Ludwig Heinrich Shuey (Oct 12, 1726 Dannsadt -Feb 25, 1775 Lancster Co. PA) son of Daniel Shuey (April 9, 1703, Germany - May 1777 Lancaster, PA)
Hiram had four wives, they are as follows: Anna Berry, married in 1839, Lancaster, Ohio. She died in 1840 as did three of their children. I suspect he had a child (listed on the 1840 Census in Coles Co. Ill 1 male under 5) then a set of twins that probably caused the wife to die as well as the male child.
On June 30th 1842 he was married to Sophia Dean who only lived five months. On Feb 8, 1844 he married Clarisa Mills of Montgomery Co. Indiana, who died in 1862. They had 5 children, 3 of whom were living when Hiram was interviewed by the Sedan Times, Sedan, Kansas at age 95 in 1910. In October 1863 he married my great grandmother, Emma Logan. She died in 1909 and is buried with Hiram in the Brantly Cemetery, Mercer County, Missouri.

Hiram had 7 children with Emma, 6 of whom lived to adulthood. They are as follows: John Wesley (Oct 30, 1865 - died before 1870) Stephen Shuey (May 13, 1867-April 1, 1934) Alexander Shuey (April 25, 1869-June 11, 1951) Alex's first wife was Diane Unk and his second wife was Lenora McDonald, who he married October 8, 1901, Triplett, MO. Jemima Belle Shuey (March 31 1871-August 26, 1962) married Ora Madison Busby March 1892. Bert W. Shuey (April 16, 1874-died after 1930) married Delia unk. James Logan Shuey (Feb. 19, 1877-March 14, 1929) married Cora Henning, Nov. 16, 1902. Elias Shuey (March 1, 1881-March 20, 1971) married Katie Barkley Feb 18, 1902.

When Hiram died he was living with his daughter, Belle Busby in Sedan KS. He was packed in ice and brought by train to be buried next to his 4th wife Emma Logan. Two of my older aunts remember the funeral as they were about 5 and 7 at the time. My Aunt Jennie remembers his long beard and how small and skinny he was.

To confuse things more, Bert W. had two sons, one named Stephen and the other Alex.

Hiram's son Stephen contracted a childhood disease when he was about 7 and became deaf. He went to the Missouri School for the Deaf for high school and later to Galludet University in Wash DC where he graduated. I have copies of several letters that he wrote to Dr. Galludet after he graduated trying to find a job.

If there is anything I mentioned that isn't clear let me know and I will try to clarify.
Barbara McDonald

My wife and I visited Dannstadt-Schaurenheim,Germany. and Metz and Jouy-aux-Arches in France early in 2001.
We did not have the opportunity to visit Lorry-Marigny which is south of Jouy-aux-Arches.

The Jouy family lived in Lorry-Marigny prior to their flight
into Pfalz-Rheinland in the late 1600's following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes.

Enroute to Pfalz-Rheinland some family members were listed as refugees at Grigy - now a suburb of Metz.

We visited the archives in Metz in an attempt to learn more about their history, but found nothing. We did leave information at the archives to assist subsequent visitors in their search, but time precluded a more extensive search.

In Dannstadt we attended church service in the church where the Jouy family worshipped and were invited to the pastor's home after the service.

The church was rebuilt in the 1800's as best I recall.

The pastor gave us a copy of the pertinent pages of a book written by Herr Winfried Seelinger. These pages prove the family lived there and recorded data regarding the family members and other relatives - i.e., in-laws.

Herr Seelinger lives in Dannstadt; his wife claims descent from the Jouy family. He would be pleased to give you more information if you requested same,I'm sure

We did not visit the Jouy home - the Munchhof - although I do have a sketch of the building as it looked long ago and have a couple of photographs taken by another Shuey descendant.

The building was bombed by our air force during the Second World War, and subsequently repaired.

Be pleased to send you copies of same and also copies of the pages from Herr Seelinger's book.

Winfried has published several books and CD-ROMs and is the official historian in that part of Pfalz. He has an excellent command of English as did the pastor we met.

Jerry Miley, a Shuey descendant. is going to Dannstadt next month - leaves on the 10th of September as I recall. I put him in contact with Herr Seelinger.

I've looked at your Shuey contacts over the past few years and would dearly like to learn more of your lineage.

While I have a very comprehensive database going back to 1500, all that I have is Alexander Shuey.hia son, Hiram - b. 21 January in Pickaway County OH d. May 1919 in Caney, Montgomery County, burial Brantley Cemetery, Mercer County.MO.
m. Diane
m. Lenora McDonald
m. Emma Logan. b. 15 December 1843 in IN. m. October 1863 in Hendricks, IN d. 1908 in MO. burial Brantley Cemetery, Mercer County, MO
Children:
Alexander Shuey b. 23 April 1869 in IN
Elias Shuey. b. 1881 d.1971
[I failed to enter the source data of the above, unpardonable error].

My wife, Edna Mae née Shuey, was born on farm close of Walmer's Church in Lebanon County, PA.

Her great-uncle, Reverend Dennis Boeshore Shuey, D.D.,published two family histories, one at the end of the Civil War and the other in 1919. 'History of the Shuey Family in America - 1732-1919.' He helped to build the large barn at the family farm after he was discharged from the Union Army.

I entered everything he wrote into my hard-drive, and then added bits of information from other researchers and culled from the internet.

As I said, I'd be delighted to expand the record of your branch.
Get back to me with as much info as you can because if we can find a match, I can trace your Shuey history back to Hildare Juy in 16th century France.

David Shuey+Barbara 1850 C. Claridon Co, OH

I had thought that the David Shuey listed in Claridon Twp., Marion Co., OH, pg 27, Image #:236, Roll M 432-708 may be one of the men mentioned as possible father to William Shuey-my GG grandfather. The Lee G. Shuey papers noted one of two brothers as possible father of William-Daniel or David sons of John Shuey and ? Maurer. William is not noted as a child of this David in this census. I thought I could rule David out as father and be left with Daniel as possible father of Wm. Some old info. I had stored and located puts me back to square one.
www.heritagepursuit.com/Marion/History1883/mhsl noted David b. abt. 1801, PA, and noted in the Claridon Twp. C. is son of Michael Shewey, PA and Barbara A. Parks, OH. It goes on to note that David had a first wife who d. abt. 1832. The second wife was noted as Barbara Stout b. abt. 1803 d. Aug 29, 1861. It goes on to say that David arrived in Fairfield Co., OH as a child-his fam. were the first settlers to the area in 1816.They moved on to Richmond Co. and lived there for 25 yrs, d. Belleville, OH at age 72. He was noted to have owned 67 "good acres of land" and was a republican. I was hoping that we could rule out this David but now I need to do more searching. Contact me if you can verify this info. or add to it in any way.

As stated in the Lee G. Shuey papers-one of two brothers is the possible father of William Shuey. It is David or his brother Daniel sons of John and Catherine. David is noted along with his children in the 1850 US Census, Claridon, OH and William is not noted as his child. It leaves us to consider Daniel and to find him in the 1850 C. However, I feel it might be a goose chase and that neither Daniel nor David fathered William. I am still follwing William and his missing link to the rest of the Shuiey family.

Esther Shuey

We are connected -- Esther was one of the sisters in addition to Emma. I have been digging through the "old" family Bibles. I have found alot of great information and pictures from the early 1900's. I would love to share.
Was Esther one of the sisters that moved to Michigan in her adult years?
As my time allows -- I need to get all the information I have gathered -- organized and posted.
Please keep in touch. You are the second lead I have had. I have also made a connection with a decendant of Nettie (Shuey) Nicoll.

I spoke with my mother last night. She wants to know if the name Justine sends off any bells for you? The name Emma or Otto Shuey?
I have a 1910 William Shuey family reunion picture I want to share as soon as I can get it scanned to disk.
Please respond ASAP... I am so excited to have heard from you, as I think we are on to a "link"!
I submitted a World tree file today -- with a full list of dates on the "Shuey" children that should be accessable within the next 10 days. Please review it as you may be able to help me with additional names and dates.
Thank you so much!!!!!!!
You can e-mail me direct at:
chris@monti.net
if you would like.
I can then e-mail you the family tree I have started -- sooner.
Thanks again,
Christine

Those names ring alot of bells since your Catharine Shuey is the younger sister of Mary Shuey who married Jeremiah Koch. They are the children of John Shuey and Hannah Miller. Our John Shuey is unfortunately not mentioned in either Shuey family history, although dozens of other John Shueys are. According to information which was emailed to a cousin of our John is one of three children of John Frederick Shuey and Veronica. John Frederick Shuey is the son of Johannes Shuey, son of Daniel.

Hi, I'm looking for information about my grandmother, Emma Catherine Shuey, who married Walter Jackson Brunger of Illinois. They lived in Boise, Idaho and had eight children -- Rosemary, Lenora, Walter, Catherine, Ralph, Joanne (who was my mom), Marjorie Ann, Dorothy, and two twin girls, Lola, who died two days after birth, and Lois, who died two years later. Her parents were Mary Esther Suiter (b. 1958 Iowa) and John Shuey.

Thanks!
Charlotte
