I am looking for info on my ggg grandfather and family:

Whitney Sheffield b 1801 prob in VA died before 1880. Whitney married Mary Jane Snyder who was born in 1797 Carter Co TN. They lived in Washington Co VA and had several sons listed below:

1) John
2) James
3) Moses
4) Benjamin R.
5) Thomas Preston
6) William S. Sheffield

Whitney's father may have been Thomas W. Sheffield who died 1859.
I have been told that Whitney and MJ lived on WhiteTop mountain before moving to Lodi and Glade Spring area.

Most of the sons lived and died in Washington Co, John, Moses, Benjamin and Thomas Preston all lived and died there. I believe that James like his younger brother William, went to TN and never went back to VA. I believe that James settled in Greene Co TN which also is the same county that William married Nancy Ann Coulson in May of 1861.

William was my gg grandfather and he settled in Hawkins Co TN and later in Monroe and then Grainger Co.
