Shuffield son of James or Jimmie, Jimmy Shuffield that's all I know except they had 4 children and 1 step son. Jimmy would have been my great grandfather. My line comes through John Hoover Sheffield of Bulloch who married Martha Harvey of Bryan county. They moved to Thomas co., GA. I see you mentioned a Sheffield book you have. Would you please do a look up for me and see if you have the children of John Hoover Sheffield listed. I am looking for sisters Martha Sheffield b abt 1810 and Sarah Ann Sheffield b abt 1805. We believe both of the sisters married William Henry Shuman, first Martha then Sara Ann.
Thank you,
bsc

I was born in Blakely, Ga. and am a descendeant of Isham Sheffield, son of John. I now live in Asheville, NC. My mother and family still live in that area. Isham's daughter Mary married William J. Bush and they had a child Laura Rebecca that married Alfred Iverson Davis. They in turn had a child Mary Elizabeth that married my grandfather Walter Sanders Jones and my mom who is 81 is Waver Vivian Jones from that marriage. I have found this search to be very fascinating. I am stil having confusion over John's father and where they came from. I read the thread from Kathy...wonder where the author of your book got his information?

Dear Grace, I also have that book. Unfortunately much data has been found in these later years that are found to be incorrect in that book. John was probably born in NC or VA. His father may have been William Shuffield of Northampton, NC. Certainly John of Duplin's son was NOT William who lived in Bulloch County Georgia and was married to Mary Abbot. His son was the younger William who was married to Rebecca Lee who moved with John's widow Elizabeth and the rest of the younger siblings to Laurens County and later to Pulaski County Georgia. They are all found there for some years after John's death. John's son Arthur was not the older Arthur, his son Arthur was born early in the year 1790. The older Arthur, who married Lucretia was likely John's brother and he was in Northampton with the older William Shuffield and his brothers Ephraim and West who are all older than the Duplin sons of John. Arthur from Northampton, NC went to Halifax County, NC for a while, then in 1790 he went to S.C. and then later on to Tenn. Arthur the true son and youngest son of John of Duplin moved with Elizabeth and his older Brother William when they ventured into Georgia. That Arthur marrried Permelia Phillips and lived his adult life quite wealthy in Early County Georgia. The older Ephraim who was likely John's brother or perhaps nephew lived his life in Northampton, West another of the groupd from Northampton also went to S. C. and is found there in the 1790 Census as West Sherfeld.
I will also share information of Deeds and other information if you would care to have it. Kathy
