I realize this is an old thread but this is the first info I have seen on what happened to James and Mary Graves after the war. Thank you. Hiram Graves and Lucy Moreland are my great grandparents. I have not been able to trace James Graves or the Graves family previous to his marriage to Mary Shufflebarger. Any info would be appreciated.

Frank Davis was my grandfather, but he died when my mother was 5, so, there isn't much I can find out, but eah person had a life and I'd love to know what ever. My wife's side of the family has a Miranda S.BARGER b. 31 Oct 1863, dau of George S.BARGER and Mary MORSE.

All we have on Mary MORSE is that her parents were apparently from TN, but she was born in IL abt 1839.

George S.BARGER b. abt 1840, Illinois, son of Russell SHUFFLEBARGER of Virginia, and Elizabeth BOULDEN of Illinois.

If anyone can help fill in the blanks here, we'd appreciate the help.

My wife's family is all over southern IL, so I hope any of this helps and hope you might be able to add to it...

My wife's great-grandmother is Miranda BARGER b. 31 Oct 1863 Eddyville, Pope Co, IL, d. 6 Jul 1884. She married 18 Jan 1880 to Thomas Andrew ZIMMER.

Our first source was Pope County Cemeteries, Vol I. Zimmer Cemetery listing, Township 11, South Range 6, East Sect 9. She is listed as Mary Ann, wife of Thomas, b. 1864, d. 1884. First name partially obliterated on headstone when we viewed it in Dec 2001.

Her parents were listed as George S.BARGER and Mary A. MORSE. From an IGI File (unverified) we found George's parents to be Russell SHUFFLEBARGER of Virginia, and Elizabeth BOULDEN of Illinois.

Miranda's siblings were: Ephraim b. 1863, Sarah A. b. 1865, William b. 1867, Nancy b. 1868, Martha b. 1870, Lee T. b. 1871, Lewis b. 1873, and Orpha b. 1874.

Can anyone verify any of this information? If you'd like to share or compare notes, please let me know.

Did you get your answer yet? I show: Viney Newly married to John Phillip Shufflebarger. Viney's father was Jeremiah Nuly.
John and Viney had 7 children:

well lets see, there is her father, Frank D. Shufflebarger, he has several brothers and sisters, named Mary, Marie. The brothers all lived in Lynchburg or thereabouts as I recall. Marie and Mary are still alive living in the Hampton Roads area. I think they are the last two. Mary Elizabeth has 1 sister named Lola Virginia.
Lola Virinia has 3 daughters, Chris, Amy and Penny. Lola Virginia is the youngest of the 2, Mary Elizabeth just turned 70 and she does indeed have 3 children your mother, Genesta Kay, Frank Davis, Lola Marie ( me) Teresa Carol and Holly. Kay lives in Ca, and all of the others live in Va except Frank and he is in Maryland.
What more can I fill in? I'd appreciate any historical info myself. Our family is a mystery to us.

Thanks for the reply. My relationship to the Sbarger's is through my Beam, Gossage, Hart, and Halley families and is rather convuluted. I hope to contact descendants of Charlie and Eliza S.Barger to share photos of Charlie, Eliza, and Eliza's obit. My greatgrandparents, Thomas D. Gossage & Christian Melinda Beam, were brother-in law/sister to Charles Halley, and brother/sister-in-law to Eliza. My grandfather, John Gossage teased that his Uncle Charlie Halley was just a few years difference in age. John made a big deal of calling Charlie "Uncle".

2.Charles C. Halley(son of Cornelius Halley & C.Beam) m. Eliza SBarger, daughter of John and Elizabeth Ford SBarger, 11/28/1886

3. 1/2 sister of Charles Halley, Ella Beam m. Wm. Aldridge, son of William and Harriet, 1/28/1883. Wm and Ella were married at the home of her brother-in-law, Henry Lane Gossage (m. Nancey Beam Terrell).

4. Wm. Aldridge was the nephew of John SBarager, living with the family in 1880.

5. Wm. and Ella Aldridge were the guardians of minor Charles Halley, and gave their consent to the marriage.
