Hello, after speaking to my Cousins Uncle Marshall this morning I found that I apparently had the name misspelled, unless he or someone changed it over the years. I had thought the name was spelled 'Shuler', but Uncle Marshall, who lives in Barrington NJ spells it 'Schuler'

Do you know anything about Mary Sorber's family from Lehigh. I believe Patti is from the Jonathan or Jacob Sorber line isn't she. You may be as well. I am working on connecting the Sorber's together in a family unit. I have found that Jonathan, Jacob, William A., Milton, Ruben and Louisa seem to be very connected. Possibly one family unit (brothers and sisters?)all from Allentown PA. There is a Susanna Sorber in the 1850 or 1860 census who is 73 years onld living in a Reems family I think it is. In Lower MacUngie Leigh County of PA. DO you know if that is the mother of your line? Any information that you have may be a clue to putting these families together. Interested in working on that?

Barbara, Thanks for responding to my query. I've been in contact with your brother, Richard Joe. He filled me in on a few facts (albeit fuzzy) concerning Everett & Maud Shuler. You and I are very distant cousins, but our common ancestors are Johann Valentin Schuller II & Eva Barbara Huber. You descend through their son Valentine and descend through another son, John. My Shuler's made the run into Oklahoma. Were you aware of two more children that Martin B. & Josephine Wilson had? They were William Arthur (1883-1948) & Frankie (a girl who died around 12 years of age, c. 1902).
You seem to be right about Everett falling off the face of the earth...I have not been able to locate him after the 1910 census, though, like you, I too found him living in Balmorhea, Texas in 1918. Oddly enough, Balmorhea is about 45 miles SW of me! It's a very pretty oasis in the middle of hot, dry texas, with a natural spring fed lake.

Do you know anything about the other siblings...Mae, Edwin or Nadine? I do have a little info on Edwin. I look forward to your response. My e-mail is: dicarter07@hotmail.com

Diane

Wow...a family member from the twins maybe? I am a granddaughter of Everett Oliver. Sir Maud (yes a boy was my father). His mother (Maud) died in childbirth with him. As far as the story goes, Maud's parents came and picked up the children taking them back to OK. We were always taught the spelling of Schuler. But have located a 1917-1918 WWI draft registration Everett completed in 1918 with the spelling Shuler. According to my dad, they never saw Everett again after grandparents took them back to OK. But rumor is he worked on the Railroad and sent money to grandparents. Although this was never communicated from Maud's parents, who apparently didn't "like" Everett. We have no other info on Everett...he has seemed to fall of the face of the earth.
Dora, NM cemetery has a plot for a Maud Schuler/Shuler and another son Shuler who died while they lived there. Rumor there is he died from a gun shot - possibly playing with a gun...unsure of this info though.

Culler
> states he married twice, first to Harriet S.C. Murchey > around 1824, second to Caroline Jane Avinger 18 Nov 1841. Lived near Vance's Ferry, served as sheriff 1835-39 > and state senator from St. Matthews Parish 1854-58. Died
> 25 Apr 1872 and buried at the First Baptist Church.
>
> Culler cites as his sources: "Biographical Directory of > the Senate of the State of South Carolina,
> 1776-1964," Reynolds & Faunt, p. 307
>
> "Charleston Daily Courier," 28 Oct 1856
>
> First question: Does anyone have access to either of these sources to see just what information they contain?
>
> Second question: Who the heck are Alfred & Julia, anyway?

___________________________

I remember my great-aunt, a great granddaughter of Col. David Shuler, stating her father had always said they were not related to the Shulers of Orangeburg County, SC. There are some Shulers buried in St. Michael's Lutheran in Lexington County, SC.

David Shuler was born 21 August 1794 and died 27 April 1872 in Orangeburg County, SC. At some point he was orphaned as a boy. He married Harriette S. C.
Re: Samuel Shuler - Indenture 1789

Ben,

Would suspect the "Samuel Shuler" you seek was probably associated with the Shulers of Pennsylvania. "Perkiomen" is a region and town in Montgomery County Pennsylvania.

I checked in Christine Weaver Shuler's book, "History of the Shuler Family" (updated and republished in 2005), and there is no mention of a "Samuel Shuler" that meets the chronological time frame you mention when the indenture took place. Ms. Weaver's book primarily deals with the line of Shulers that came from Switzerland to Germany, and then to the Orangeburg, South Carolina area. The updated portion of the book deals with the "North Carolina" Shulers, which likely are related, but are a different branch of the Shulers.

I wish you luck in your search !
I am searching for information about Pearl Perlie Shuler's parents. Pearl is David Hill Shuler's second wife and my ggrandmother. I have some information from an interview with her daughter, Pallie Shuler, but am having a hard time putting it all together. Pallie tells me that Pearl's mother was a "Ward that married a Ward", (no relation). She thinks that her name was Mary. That her dad's name was Kirk Ward. I think I have found Pearl in the 1900 Census, under the last name of Davis. Everything else (that Pallie told me) fits exactly, her sister's name (Dora), stepfather (William Brooks), mother's name (Mary), birthdate (almost 17 Aug 1882 - actual 11 Aug 1882), right relationship (stepdaughter). Only the last name does not agree. It is not mispelled. I looked at original. In 1930, I found Robert Shuler, abt 1905, NC living with this same family, in Dillsboro, Jackson, NC. Head of Household Arthur Brooks. Robert Shuler is Pearl's son.
Pallie says Pearls's siblings were Dora (married Gus Wilkey), Roxann Ward, Minnie Ward(died, buried at Barker's Creek, Jackson, NC) & (step brothers Arthur & Jess Brooks)
I have found info on most of these siblings. Any info on Pearl's father or mother & why she was listed as Davis in 1900 Cenus ?

My Shuler ancestors come from Union County,GA, but originally from Jackson County, NC. . . familysearch.org lists David Hill Shuler's parents as Abraham Burton Shuler & Martha L Boyd. This info needs to be verified, as it is based on submitted info that is not always verified.
I found Burton Shuler & Abraham B Shuler (wife Martha & Martha L) in the 1870 & 1880 Census in Macon County, NC,living in Alarka(1870 & Cowee(1880) with a son named David Hill of the appropriate ages, ie. age 3 & 11. That's all I have on them.
Thank you both for answering. Minnie Bonham's son was William Fred Shuler, b.17 Nov 1896 in Jackson County, NC. Son of Hill Shuler & Minnie Bonhams (NC Birth Index, 1800 - 2000). According to Pallie Shuler (youngest daughter of David Hill & half sister to William Fred Shuler), Minnie Bonhams died shortly after Fred was born.
Here is the story that Pallie Shuler told me about Fred Shuler & his stepmother Pearl Shuler(second wife of David Hill Shuler).
David Hill worked away from home & came home about once a month. Pearl and Fred lived by themselves much of the time. Fred told Pallie that Pearl "raised me". "She never laid a hand on me". "Talked to me about the Lord". Told me not to associate with bad people, or "you'll become like them."
Pearl found a pack of cards in Fred's pocket. Scratched out a hole in the fireplace, covered them & burned them. She told Fred, "many a person is in the graveyard over a deck of cards."
When David Hill came home,he wasn't too happy about it & said, "Pearl, why did you burn Fred's cards"? Pearl said to him, " If his mother's in heaven looking down, she'll be happy. If she were here, she'd thank me and shake my hand for raising her son right." She looked at Hill and he had tears in his eyes.
I thought this was a touching story

David Hill Shuler is my paternal great grandfather. He is buried at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Gum Log Rd, Union County, GA., under the headstone:DH Shuler,1868 - Nov 16,1931.
I recently interviewed his youngest and only living child, Pallie (Patsy) Shuler, age 91 from Sylva, NC. Here is what she told me: Hayward ("Hill" for short)Shuler's first wife was Minnie Bottoms (Bonhams). She died after her first baby was born. His name was Fred Shuler. Fred was 5 years old when David Hill married my great grandmother, Pearl Perlie Ward Shuler. Pallie told me a touching story about Pearl and her stepson Fred. I will share it, if you are interested. This is all that Pallie told me about Minnie Bottoms (Bonhams). I did the spelling, so I am not sure which spelling is correct. Hope this helps.
