Thank you for writing. If your grandfather Shurley died around 1989 and his wife was named Ruth, then we are definitely cousins. I am looking for Thomas Shirley/Shurley's marriage details to Sophia ? Also their burial dates.

Thomas Shurley was Bn 12 January 1781 and Bp 20 March 1781 at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Westminster, London, Middlesex, living around St Dunstan, Stepney, Tower Hamlets, Ratcliffe, Garlickhithe and generally around these areas. His trade is a Baker. They have a daughter names Eliza Mary Ann who is shown as ELMA Shurley on the census.

Can you help me please? I would very much appreciate any help and I am happy to swop information.

William died around 1840 per our family Bible. I don't have his birthdate and have no records before that time. Hope this helps.

Our family records show that William and Elizabeth Sherly were the parents of 9 children, one of whom was a Charles. William died in 1841 in Warren County, GA.

Looking for info about ancestors and descendants of Robert V. Shurley (b. abt. 1834, England; d. 9 July 1898, IL), printer and newspaperman who married Martha Hart (b. 3 Mar 1841, NY; d. 11 Oct 1904, IL). Buried Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago.

Robert Shurley met and married Martha J. Hart in Chicago. He worked on newspapers for many years in Iowa, eventually returning to Illinois. They had three children: printer Harry Shurley (1856-1925), Louis Burgh Shurley (1859-1874) who is buried in Dubuque, and Winnifred Shurley Leslie (1864-1905), who married George Leslie (1860-1937).

This is Ruth Shurley's Obituary as it appeared in the Michigan City, News Dispatch.
Both she and her husband Emmit S. Shurley are buried at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, just out side of Michigan City, IN. (Good Shepherd section, Block 217 Lot C.
Hope this helps in your journey. I think my husband is related some how to these folks, but will have to ask him.

Ruth Shurley

LaPORTE - Ruth Shurley, 87, LaPorte, formerly of Michigan City, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday (June 20, 1997) at Countryside Place Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shurley was born Dec. 24, 1909, in Madison, Tenn., the daughter of Philip Everett Pipkin and Birtie Qualls Pipkin. On Nov. 5, 1932, in Truman Ark., she married Emmitt S. Shurley, who preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1975.

She is survived by four sons, Virgil Shurley, Baroda, Mich., Howard Shurley, Michigan City, Donald Shurley, Troy, Tenn., and David Shurley, Rockford, Ill.; a daughter, Alta Mae Fisher, Jonesboro, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bertha Ross, Porterville, Calif.

Mrs. Shurley was a Michigan City resident from 1951 to 1990, before moving to LaPorte. She was a homemaker.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

I am trying to reach Sharon Bryant who shares Shurley ancestors with me. If anyone has a current e-mail address on her I would appreciate it.

I noticed at the Shirley Family Website, that Sharon stated that Thaddeus couldn't be found on the 1800 census. I believe that I have found him (see below). Of course, his name was greatly distorted on this census, but you can still see how it is the same man.

I am trying to locate Jim L. Shurley or his family for my uncle, Domenick (Mimmie) Nocida. Uncle is in his 70's and was in Korea in 1953 thru 1955 with Jim. A xmas card sent a number of years ago was returned and uncle wanted to know what ever happened to his old buddy.
They were stationed atYun Dun Po or Yung Dung Po in Korea (north of Seoul), in 1953,54 and 55. They were in the Railroad Battalion (either 712 or 714).

What is the origin of this name? My great grandmother Sarah Jane Schorley was originally from Holland. She married Henry Mathews and they lived in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. until she left him and moved to NC @1900. Anyone with any information out there?

I have no idea if you are a relative but I am trying to locate with very little info, All of my fathers family was born in Arkansas, and many or most still live there, mainly I think in Jonesboro. I am only 43, and all I have is my dads fathers name. Emmit Soleman Shurley. My dads name is Virgil Ray Shurley. He is still alive and lives in Jonesboro. I live in Michigan. My father knows so very little about his side of the family, Emmit married Ruth Shurley. My father was from somewhere in Truman, he went to school in Truman. Would your William Edward Shurley have been born in 1788. I have started searching for my ancestors and have found out that an Edward Shurley was my great great great grandfather. According to my records he was married to an Elizabeth. Is this the same Shurley? If so could you give me more detailed information. Thank you.

We saw your message and was interested if any relation to George Robert Shurley Sr. and Jr. located in Macon. Some relatives by marriage in Roberta. Sr. was born in Thomaston, Ga. he is in his 60's now...son Jr. is 38 now. I am interested in finding more information concerning a Thomas P. Shurley that was in Arkansas during the civil war, went to Ft. Rolla, MO to avoid "bushwackers". "Judge E. T. Shurley Dies In Hospital; Lived Here 11 Years - Judge Edmund T. Shurley, of 2608 Sunset drive, died last night at the Tampa hospital where he had been taken after a sudden illness. He was 63 years of age.
Judge Shurley was a native of Georgia, and had been a resident of Tampa since 1925. He came here from Warrenton, Ga., where he had been a judge of the superior court in the Tooms circuit. Prior to that, he was secretary to the last United States Senator Tom Hardwick of Georgia for 12 years.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Loud Shurley, and a brother, Dr. John H. Shurley of Milledgeville, Ga.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed last night."
