I am assuming that Susannah is the child of one of the sons of William Shurtleff and Susannah Lothrop, which would be Thomas, William, Barnabus or Jonathon. She would have been born some time around 1730. Would like to have proper documentation. There is plenty of documentation of Seth but little on Susannah. There are other Susannah Shurtleffs - the grandmother (Susannah Lothrop Shurtleff, the aunt, Susannah sister of Thomas et. al. and possibly other cousins. None found with birth dates that make any sense. Need factual help. Thanks

Shurtleff lineage from Wales, England

Just wondering if anyone has actively pursued the lineage from before William Shurtleff came to America? I am assuming the line came from Northern Wales, England though I do not know which specific county...

I would love to get some info on this if anyone has any to share...Also, anything on our coat of arm or family crest would be great as well!

Thanks so much!

Shurtleff Decendants

I just read all of these messages and am impressed by the seekers. Have recently gotten back into geneology and wanted to see how much was going on in the Shurtleff tree. I am in the 2 Vol. set (2nd Vol) by Roy Shurteff under JAMES DAVID SHURTLEFF (son of William Edmund Shurtleff married Marguerite Timberlake), my mother ELIZABETH ANN BREITWEG married in Cleveland, Ohio; children: d. Katherine Elizabeth b. 1946, s. Stephen Edmund b. 1948, d.Sally Louise b. 1950. I am the Sally Louise, although my birth certificate is Sara; I got a nickname. I have one son Dartagnan Xavier Straniti.

I remember my sister being contacted in the early 70's and we gave the grandson - who was completing the books- our information and got a Shurtleff Coat of Arms. Both my parents and both siblings have now died, and don't know what happened to the coat of arms. But, my father's sister -aunt Marilu Lawrence has the books.

I'd like to hear from anyone with same lineage. I'm continuing to research the BREITWEG AND TIMBERLAKE lineage.

Great work here.

Sara

Jonathan, William, Harry or Sylvan Shurtleff

I am looking for any males sons of these Shurtleff's that were born to Simeon (f=Jonathan,m=Elizabeth Leach) and Submit Kingman Shurtleff from 1797-1807. I show them as born in Paris, Oxford County, Maine but can't find anything further than that.

I am trying to connect the dots backwards I guess. My grandfather is Wallace Irvin Shurtleff, b:1931 in Rumsford, ME (Florence Irene, only sibling b:1926) to Cecil Brey Shurtleff and Minnie Margarette Hinkley(?). Cecil was an only child b:1906 in Rumsford,ME to Herbert Arthur Shurtleff and Nora Belle Bray. Herbert b:abt 1870, may have at least one brother, both lived in Rumsford, not sure if they were born there. I have no parents or other sibling info for Herbert. Thats where my info stops.

So I am hoping the Simeon Shurtleff's son in Oxford County, ME lead to Herbert Arthur Shurtleff.

Also, my grandfather told me that or lines may go back as far as Dublin, Ireland and that there is a Shurtleff (not sure if spelled that way or not) Family Crest with a castle and moat picture?? Does anyone know anything about this or know of our line beyond William from England?

I would greatly appreciate any info anyone has.

Samuel Shurtleff's wife- Ernestown, Ontario abt. 1800-1873

I am trying to determine the correct mother for my Great-grandmother, Esther Mary Shurtleff (abt 1836-1926)of Ernestown, Ontario. Roy Shurtleff's genealogy lists her parents as Samuel Shurtleff (1800-1873)and Lydia Daniels (1804-1872). Her siblings are listed in this book as Angeline Miles Shurtleff (m. Peter Clark) and James Korison Shurtleff (m. Frances Fuller). The IGI is generally in agreement with this; Lydia Daniels is listed as the mother of each of these children, although james is listed as James Karison and also James Harison. But...the 1871 Ontario census lists Samuel's wife as Gratia Shurtleff, not Lydia (although Lydia would have been still alive for this census) and Gratia Shurtleff is buried in Wilton Cemetery, as is Samuel,in Ernestown. James B. Shurtleff is buried there as well, and his tombstone indicates a birthdate that is the same as James Korison Shurtleff's and it states that he is the son of Samuel and Gratia Shurtleff. To further complicate matters, one of my family sources lists the mother of this family as Gracia Miles. Who is Lydia Daniels? Is she the same person as Gratia? Is she the first wife? Does anyone know anything about this family? By the way, I do know the ancestry of Samuel Shurtleff (son of Gideon etc).
