First of all, I want to thank you for the wealth of information you've shared over the years. I always wondered when & where Barbara Largent Sibole died and you found it long after I had given up.

Yes, I did note the Boyer surname in the Sibole lineage. I'm a french Boyer, my ancestors having left France in the mid 17th century for "New France" (Canada) and from there, traveled through the waterways to the mid-Mississippi River Valley. I have always assumed Amanda was one of the german Boyers. There are many of them in Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.

Cece

I just noticed that you signed your name Cece Boyer Myers. We have corresponded in the past and you sent me a nice message telling how Squire Sibole and his family migrated from Ohio to Missouri. I am interested in the Boyer part of your name. My ggrandfather, John William Sibole, married Amanda Boyer in 1872 in Ohio. She was the daughter of Richard Hall Boyer Jr. How are you related to the Boyers?

The Speelman that one of the Sibole's married was from Hampshire county, Wv, Va at the time of the marriage.Yhere is a library in Hampshire county, it is in the town of Romney. That is most likely you will get some help.I believe some of the Sibole were ministers I might be able to find some more on the Siboles. Drop me an email. My regular email address is mermill2@windstream.net I grew up in Martinsburg,Berkeley county were Ichabod came to live.

Hi Cece,
No, Jacob and Barbara are from Virginia . And Jacob's father was Jacob Sibole born about 1780 in Hampshire County, Virginia now West Virginia. I am not sure who his mother was. Barbara died in Ross County Ohio. I have a picture of her headstone. I have seen census records for both Jacob's. That is were I got where they were born. I had heard that Ichabod was Jacob's father from someone else. I know now that they were wrong. (that was back when I first started working on the family tree.)I look for proof now, I do not use something that I can not find myself. I have not been able to locate where Jacob died. I have talked to my Great Uncle Bob (Robert Edward Sibole) about the family. Grandma (Mary Louise Gilbert nee Sibole) used to tell me about her family when I was younger. She has dementia, so she can not tell me anything now. She knew a lot more then Uncle Bob does.
Cathy Hamilton

James Sibole was born 10 May 1836 in Virginia. He died on 4 Aug 1866 in Ross County, Ohio. He is buried in Denver M.E. Church Cemetery which is in Huntington Township, Ross County, Ohio. We visited that cemetery about 5 years ago.

I do not know where Jacob Sibole is buried or even when he died. I cannot find him in the 1860 census, but they must have still been in West Virginia at that time. They came to Ohio when James was ill. Barbara was living with my great grandfather, John William Sibole, in the 1880 Census in Ross County, Ohio and died there in 1881.

I have information on all of the children of Barbara and Jacob Sibole if you need it.

My gg-grandmother was Barbara Largent. She married Jacob Sibole (b. Abt 1807- ?). Do not know when they were married, but their first child, James (1836-1866) was born 10-May-1836 in Virginia.

Barbara Largent came to Ohio sometime in 1866 because her son, James, was ill and not expected to live. James died 04-Aug-1866 before they arrived in Ohio and is burried in the Denver M.E. Church Cemetery.

Barbara lived with my great-grandfather, John William Sibole, in Twin Township, Ross Co, OHio in the 1870 U.S. Census .... along with an unmarried daughter, Ellen.

Barbara Largent Sibole died 09-Aug-1881 and is buried in McDill Cemetery, located west of Chillicothe. I have a picture of her headstone. The Scioto Gazette (a weekly newspaper) Vol 82, No. 27 on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 1881. Died: Sibolt in Scioto township, August 10th, of dropsy, Barbara A. Sibolt.

I do not know who Barbara Sibole's parents were. Would appreciate any more information you find.

Joy

I am also researching my family who moved from Virginia to Ross County, Ohio around 1865.
* Jacob Sibole (Abt 1807 - ?) born in Virginia
According to family stories, their son James (1836-1866) moved first to Ohio and settled near Denver, Ohio. He became sick and was told he did not have long to live. He sent for his mother to help, and his parents came to Ohio but James died (04-Aug-1866) before they arrived.

* Barbara Largent (born Sep 1816 in VA, died 9-Aug-1881)
Barbara (wife of Jacob Sibole) is buried in McDill Cemetery just west of Chillicothe, Ohio. There is a tombstone for her. I have not been able to find out who her parents were.

* I have seen the Sibole name spelled Siebold on a 1929 Ohio death certificate for Elizabeth (Sibole) Foster.
* The 1880 Census lists Ellen Sibole (1837-1902) as Ellen Sibold. (Daughter of Barbara and Jacob Sibole)
* Ross County Court Records for James Sibole and Sophia Louisa McKinniss (married 21-Nov-1865)show different names. The groom's surname in license record is "Sibole" and in marriage record is "Sibold".

Would like to see any information on Barbara Largent you have.
Joy

Hi,
My grandmothers name is Ethel L Cornwell. Her Father is Lester Orville Cornwell and her mother is Nina Elenore Ash.
I would love any information, stories, pictures that you could share. I am working on my family history and know very little about my mother's side of the family.
My great grandmother was supposedly put in an orphanage. I appears that she lived with her grandparents for a time. Hope this helps. Thank you, Lorraine

Hi Cathy,

I think FamilyTreeDNA is probably the best place to do the surname projects. They mail you a test lit, you swab your cheek, and mail it back to them. This link has more information: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname.aspx

There might also be some Seybold's interested in doing this (see the discussion on the Seybold board). If men with both names were tested it would show whether the Virginia Seybolds and Siboles/Sibolds are from the same family.

The cost of the test kit depends on how many markers they test, and there is a group discount for the surname projects. The least expensive would be $99 for the 12 marker test, or $148 for the 25 marker test. And I'm guessing that some of the Sibole descendents who are not descended through the male line might be willing to make contributions to reduce the cost.

I think that FamilyTreeDNA is good about maintaining the privacy of the test results, but you would probably want to check their webpage for details and talk with your relatives to see if they have privacy concerns.
Hi Cathy - are you related to the Sibole family? I'm at pretty much the same place in my research - I can't prove that James Sibole (born abt 1750) was the son of Jasper Seybold, but it seems likely. The Friends meeting record gives a wedding date for Jasper's son, 17 Aug 1774, but not the name of the bride because James married outside of the Quaker church.

I suspect that James b.1750 had sons Jacob, Henry, James, Ichabod and Joseph (they all seem to have used the Sibole/Sibold spelling) but I can't prove this.

Also, in case you don't already have this, Israel Sibole had 2 more sons who died in Allen Co., OH:
James W. born abt 1845
Ichabod W. born abt 1847
and both died around 1856 or 1859
both buried in the Lafayette Cemetery (Old Section) Jackson Township Allen Co OH, along with their grandfather James Sibold.

I think I have made some progress on the Russell line, are you researching this family too? I'm descended through Israel and Cerena/Sirena's daughter Celestia Alice Sibole and her second husband, Thomas Thorsen. Their daughter Dora was my great-grandmother.

Gail
I'm guessing that James Sibole, born abt 1850 (and possibly the son of Jasper and Rebecca Seybold) had at least 5 sons, Henry, Jacob, James, Ichabod and Israel. As far as I can tell, no one has been able to show that James was the son of Jasper Seybold, or that any of these 5 were definitely sons of James Sibole. I'm not in touch with any of my male Sibole cousins, but I would be willing to set up a FamilyTreeDNA Sibole/Seybold family name project if anyone is interested. It seems like this might be the only way to determine if these 5 men are related, and if they descend from Jasper Seybold.

Gail

These tax records include James, Jacob and Ichabod Sibole. James was not listed in 1814, so possibly he had died or moved after 1813. No Siboles were from listed 1800-1803, so perhaps James moved to Hampshire Co. in 1804...?

Hampshire County [West] Virginia Personal Property Tax Lists, 1800-1814

The Siboles are listed in the lower (eastern) part of Hampshire County. The first number after the name is the number of white tithables, the second number is the number of horses. In 1813-1814 they also indicated people who had saw mills or grist mills.
In case anyone is interested, letters of Elizabeth Sibole were published in "Frederick Findings" available from the Family History Library, Film 6126489 #4, pages are 205-10. This was a newsletter on history and genealogy in Frederick Co., VA. I don't know if her letters included any family history information, and I don't know to which branch of the Sibole family she was connected, but this might be of interest to the VA or West VA Siboles.

Hi Gail,
Yes, I am related to the Sibole Side of the family. Jacob Sibole is my great great great grandfather. His son Squire had a son named Ashford. Ashford is my grandmother's father. I have not looked into the Russell side. I am pretty sure this is how the line goes. (note: after Jacob I am not 100% positive, I no no proof)Japser Seybold had a son named James (I think he is the one that changed the spelling to Sibole) James Sibole is on the 1810 census in Hampshire county. James Sibole had a son named Jacob. Jacob had a son named Jacob (this would be my ggg grandfather from here that I have proof so I am 100%)Jacob had a son named Squire, etc. Back to James Sibole, I am pretty sure that his father was Jasper Seybold. I have been in contact with a descendant of Jasper's. They think that James died when he was a young boy. But James is listed as married like you said. Also he is listed in Jasper's will. I have not found James wifes name or his son Jacob's wife. If you look at all of Jasper's children; most of them were either kicked out or left the Quaker Church. So maybe that is what happened to James. You can email me at CathyH909@aol.com I have a lot on the Sibole's. They are the ones I started working on first.
Cathy

Hello Brad?,
I am Amy's sister (Cathy, Mary (Sibole) & John Gilbert's granddaughter), Jacob Sibole and Barbara Ann Largent is Squire's father and mother. Jaoob is Jacob's father, not sure of his mothers name but it maybe Elener Ann. Jacob's father is James Sibole mother is unknown. James Sibole's parents maybe, (not 100% on this but am pretty sure) Jasper Seybold and Rebekah Clendenen. That is as far back as I have gone. I have not been able to prove the Seybold connecion for sure. I have more on the brother's and sister's for Squire, Jacob and Jacob. If you go look a t the obituary for Elizabeth Sibole it has Ashford and his siblings. I tried to get Squires obituary, but the library did not have it. I have found where Barbara Sibole is buried, but not Jacob. I have not found an obituary for Barbara yet. Do you have any pictures of Squire or Elizabeth? I do not Iam looking for some. I have Rosey Nell and I am sure that there are some of Ashford around here somewhere.(I take care of Grandma, she is doing ok)How have you been? You can email me CathyH909@aol.com if you want more on the Sibole's. Grandma used to tell me stories about her family. That is how I got into the family history. I should have started a long time ago, when she remebered everything.
Cathy

Hi Jack,
According to find a grave it is ture about Daniel Sibole. Someone may have got the wrong dates. But he is buried there in that cemetery. It was aslo in a cemetery book for the county. As to what I have on Israel's parents; James Sibole born 01 Aug 1787 in Hampshire County, West Virginia died 05 Mar 1871 in Jackson, Allen, Ohio. Elizabeth Sargent / Largent no dates on her. James father was also James Sibole born 1760 in Chester County, Pennsylvania married Unkown. He died around 1830 in Hampshire County, West Virginia. ( Note at the time it was Virginia ) I have no proof but I am pretty sure that James father was Jasper Seybold. I have talked to people doing research on Jasper and they say he died when he was young (James) but he is listed in Quaker records as being married, also in Jasper's will. I believe that James changed the spelling from Seybold to Sibole and moved to Hampshire County . I have found James Sibole listed on the 1810 census in Hampshire County. That is far as I have gone on the Sibole line. I have not added Jasper Seybold as I have no solid proof that he was James Sibole's father. Also, I found that Cerna and Daniel on the Russell they seem to drop one L. I assume that was how it was spelled on Daniel's headstone, there is no picture, but I have seen the Russell spelled both ways.
Cathy

Yes, I found the pictures; they're on the digital camera I gave my daughter. I'll try to get them soon and send to you.

They are buried in a small private cemetery along a private lane in Adair County. It's on Bethel Ridge Road off of Hwy 149 north of Novinger, MO.

Squire Siboles parents are Jacob Sibole and Dr. Barbara Ann Largent (trained in germany) .. Jacobs parents are Ichabod Sybole and Sally Beach. I've seen reference to a ship manifest with them coming to America through Boston harbor.
