JD,

I'm afraid that my Herman is not related to your Henry. My Herman was the only member of his family to come over from Germany.
There are eight Sieve Family that come from the Ihorst Damme area of northern Germany.
Herman and Henry was a very common family name and at the time my great grandfather was alive there was another Herman Heinrich Sieve living in Cincinnati. It was very confusing until I could confirm my ggrandfather's birth date and death date through cemetery information and his death certificate. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
I am descended from Henry Sieve (1841-1910) who lived in Cincinnati. I think Herman could be his brother. On Henry's death certificate, it says his father was Franz, mother unknown, but he was from Oldenburg, Germany. He married Josephine Broering (1841-1921) she was also from Oldenburg.

Of history this is what is known of Nobles County by Wilmont MN for the Sieve family written from early 1900’s
August Sieve, of Larkin Township, owns and farms the northeast quarter of section 12, and that has been his home for the last twelve years. He is the son of Joseph and Mary (Themann) Sieve, who reside near Dinklage, Oldenburg, Germany, March 3, 1865.
Mr. Sieve was raised on a farm in his native country. At the age of twenty years he began working at the miller’s trade, followed that occupation a year and a half, and then joined the Germany army. He served in the infantry at Oldenburg two years. Leaving the army, he again took up his trade and worked another year and a half. He then came to America, arriving in Baltimore, Maryland on March 17, 1891. He located first at Arcadia, Iowa, where for three years he worked out on the farm. He then rented a farm near Halbur, Iowa, and conducted it two years. In 1896 he moved to Nobles County, bought 80 acres of land of his present farm in Larkin Township, and has since made his home there.
At Arcadia, Iowa, on January 30, 1894, Mr. Sieve was married to Caroline Kohorst, who was born in Oldenburg, Germany, September 23, 1872, and who came to the United States with her parents in 1885 and located in Iowa. She is the daughter of Gerd Henry and Maria Elizabeth (Wilmhoff) Kohorst. Caroline Kohorst-Sieve’s father died March 17, 1906; her mother lives at Arcadia, Carroll County, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. August Sieve are the proud parents of the following named children, all of whom reside at home. Joseph Henry, born December 18, 1894; Ida Catherine, born March 30, 1897; Frank Joseph, born August 7, 1898; Joseph Clemens, born May 1,1901; Mary Catherina, born October 2, 1903; Anton Alois, born August 15, 1906; Emma Christina, born June 30, 1908.
The Sieve Family currently live by Wilmont, Minnesota. They are members of the Catholic Church in Wilmont, Mn. Mr. Sieve is the treasurer of school district No. 84, to which office he was elected in the spring of 1908. He served some time as a road overseer. He is currently farming by Wilmont as well.

In early 1940's Alois Sieve married Iva Arens. They had four children. JoAnn, Carol, Gary and Barb Sieve. In 1947, Gary Sieve was born. Married Joyce Fritz in 1971.
Gary and Joyce have four children. Lori, Lisa, Bradley Joseph and Joseph Michael. Gary and Joyce Sieve still run the Sieve farm by Wilmont.

Alois Sieve died in 1971. Iva Sieve died in 2001. There relatives are still prominent in Wilmont on the Sieve farm about four miles from town.
hey susan,

We are some of the sieve's from the wilmont area. I am the granddaughter of Al and Iva Sieve. My parents are Gary and Joyce(Fritz) of rural Wilmont, MN. g_sieve@myclearwave.net is dad's email if you need more information on Henry Sieve and his family. Henry's grandkids are below. They are also our cousins by wilmont. This is Henry's relation, his son..Leon Sieve and his wife Delores.

Our cousins are Jim, Bob, Gene, Julie, Leon and Loren Sieve of Lismore MN. Little Leon and Loren are twins. TWINS are very prominent in the Sieve family in this generation as Lisa and I are identical twins too. Leon Sr. and Delores Sieve still live by Lismore. The children have now moved away from home ages ago, but I can help in locating some.
Julie (sieve) and Randy Jones are now down by Des Moines Iowa and close to me in Walnut. Little Leon is up in Edina MN as a band director, Loren is still by Lismore MN. Jim and Lisa Sieve are by New Ulm MN, Bob and Deb Sieve are by Rapid City SD, and Gene and Jane Sieve are up in the cities too...I think by Chanhassen or so. I hope this helps.

Just remember somewhere we are all related....we are the Sieve's right?
I am the oldest twin of Gary and Joyce Sieve, Wilmont MN. Our family is Lori, Lisa, Brad and Joe. I now live in Walnut Iowa and have an antique store called the Granary Mall. www.granarymallwalnut.shutterfly.com or you can reach me via email: lsieve@walnutel.net.
hello and glad that you are enjoying the pictures of the sieve family. I am glad you are responding back to my questions and my thoughts. I don't have much time for research either but it is fun to know and understand.

My family is still in MN. I have lots of family in Adrian, and Luverne. I have family in the Wilmont area, and Lismore MN areas as well. I love coming home to the Sieve clan.

My sister is up in Alexandria, Mn now. There is a Sieve Restaurant there and fun to see. There is Sieve pictures on the wall and fun to learn about. Jon and Mike Sieve are the owners. They are Ben Sieve's kids. My sister just got married and is living there since August 2008. Feel free to see the place. They would love the visit. It is a Sieve thing to visit!

I also have family in the twin cities and by Elbow Lake. My aunt Barb (Sieve) Estrem is there with her family. These would be my first cousins. They have four daughters, Shannon, Kelly, Shelli, and Katy. We have four kids in my family, Lori, Lisa, Brad and Joey. My father is Gary Sieve. He is the grandchild to August and Caroline Kohorst Sieve. My other aunt is JoAnn Johanning (Edina MN). She has David, Julie and Sue in the cities. Then there is Carol(Sieve) Rupp of Adrian with six children..Tammy, Tracy, Troy, Tim, Tom, and Travis. We are a big family, but fun families as well. Come and see us sometime.

Let me know more information. We would love to know anything else about the Sieve clan. Thanks for writing us back.

Herman H. Sieve

Hello Michele, my name is Peter Sieve. On
January 2, 1838 a Johann Hermann Heinrich
Sieve was born in Dinklage/Germany. In 1865
he went to America. I was sure that he must
be the ancestor that you are looking for,
but then I found (in an index of death
notices in Cincinnati Volksfreund) that
Herman H. Sieve died on March 8, 1893 at age
54 years 2 months 5 days. Elisabeth Batke
was born on Nov. 20, 1847 in Lutten (not far
from Dinklage). Her parents: Joh. Henr. Batke
and Maria Angela Wegmann.
Any informations on the Sieve descendants
would be appreciated! Peter Sieve, Kirchweg
5, 49377 Vechta.

Sieve

I am looking for information on a Henry Herman Sieve Sr. The information I have from family records show that he died in 1883. He was married to Maria Christina Ahrens who died July 1916 at the age of 89. They had 8 children - Henry Jr., Anna B., Caroline M., William, George, Frances, John, & Anton. I am working off of notes which show that Henry was a cigar maker throught the Civil War and had a shop in Louisville, KY until 1866 when they moved to Franklin County, MO.
His father was possibly Jacob Sieve who came to the US (Cincinnati, OH in 1846).
Any information would be appreciated.
