Yes, there were quite a few Sigman's in AR. My gr-gr-grandfather, Jacob Alexander Sigman, b. 1830 in NC, lived at Hickory Creek near Springdale & Rogers, AR from the mid 1870's until his death in 1910. He had 11 children, so he left many descendants in the area. Some came to OK and went other places, but there are still quite a few in that area. He went by Alex Sigman most of his life. He and his descendents are the only ones I am familiar with.

Jean
I just reread the information given to me about Sophia's estate being settled Dec. 2, 1834 and realized she didn't mention a Will, so she may not have had one. I would still be interested in the settlement where it mentions any of her children.

Thanks, Barb

I believe I found your John G. Sigman. In 1910, he was listed as John G. Sigmann, which would have been the correct German spelling of his name. I found him in San Antonio, Los Angeles County, California (he was in California in 1920 as well). His wife was born at sea; her parents were German. Their son Harry was with them, and he was born in Pennsylvania.

I can't find them in 1900, but if you give us the names of all the children and their birth years, I will be able to trace them back. Obviously the last name was mangled in the indexing of the 1900 census.
My Nancy Long with Alonzo in 1870, her stepmother that married Nancy's Father David Long in Sugar Creek Miami co. Ks., her husband was also killed by Bushwackers in 1861 , I have an old letter , he was killed in the yard in front of the children while she visited her sister also living in Sugar Creek. Nancy's mother died 1861 and her father David long sent the younger children away it seems to neighboring areas? Nancy was also with the Kuhlmans/Colemans in 1865 at 9 yrs old, sister Barbara disappeared after 1865 census she was only 10? i think Nancy long is the nancy who married John McBride in sugar Creek, date smatch, just now have to find a marriage record, in Ks. its hard........ thanks for the reply.

Hello,
My Name is Larry G. Sigman/Sigmon . my ggrandfather was ( David Sylvester Sigman ) born in N. Car in approx 1852 . so i'm told, he was born in Catawba County,N.Car the son of ( George Henry Sigman & Ada Melissa ( Setzer ) Sigman . David Sylvester Sigman married ( Martha or Mattie Jane Wells ) of N. Car but i'm not sure when . i can't seem to find much of anything out about him once he was married.i do know they migrated from N. Car to Tenn some time in the late 1800's. my father used to live with Mattie Jane when he was a boy in Tenn . he says she told him many times a story about when David & Mattie lived in Miss David went to town to sell a crop and by mistake a man ran up to Daivd and stabbed him in the chest. before David died he grabbed the man and stomped him to death right in the store. Mattie Jane Sigman returned to Tenn after David was killed and in about 1915 married ( Jack or John " Tuck " Nelson . any help you might have would be great, i find this researching my family very interesting indeed.

Jodi, Caleb is also my ancestor. His son Oscar was my grandfather. My grandfather had a family farm in Velva, North Dakota that was left to my father when he died in 1972. In fact my father was born there. Maybe our grandfathers were siblings. What was your grandfathers name? Your right, this has suddenly become very interesting!
I have looked for any information about Sarah Osenbaugh and Daniel's marriage that would give me Daniel's fathers name but came up with nothing. A couple of years ago I talked to A Cindy Downham (through Ancestery ) that suggested that Sarah was a Quaker but I couldnt conferm it. If the Josenbaugh line can conferm Abraham as Daniel's father I would love to see it. How did you come upon the Josenbaugh line?
I also came upon the land owned by Daniel in Bureau County.
As far as the family coming through Canada, I had 2 uncles that were born in Canada but I also don't think the family came through there. Until we can conferm Daniel's fathers name, looking for ship immigration records is a waste of time.
I live in Pocatello, Idaho and some of the information I get comes through the LDS geneolegy library. We are not Mormon but the library is open to the public. I will see what I can find out. I think Daniel's father would have been born about 1790, give or take a few years. My father is 91 years old. I remember him talking about an ancestor coming from Holland and I know some of the Sigmans immigtated from Antwerp. To get into those records I would have to go through the LDS library.
It is great to find you and to know that you are interested in the genology of this family. Keep in touch, Rainy

P.S. You don't have to go through Ancestery.com to contact me. Rainyspost@hotmail is my regular e-mail address.

I believe Daniel will be my GGGGrandfather, his son Caleb will be my dads lineage. Caleb moved to North Dakota and my Grandfather sold that ranch in the late 70's.
I have no futher information after Daniel. If you know that James Sigman is his father I will try to do some tracing on that line. On Ancestry Sarah Osenbaugh family has done e work for the Josenbaugh's line and shows an Abraham as Daniels father. Do you know anything about that?
I will try to relocate the information I found about Sarah's remarriage and Daniels death in 1861. I was looking in the Ohio and Ill regiments lists for his name, but still have yet to locate.
I am so excited to find someone else looking for this family line. I will certainly share information that I do find. I did find land sales to Daniel Sigman in 1851 in Bureau County, Ill, just for extra interest. My dad tells me that the family came through Canada, I told him I doubted it because historical migration routes, the family more than likely got off the boat in Penn., but I am just guessing at that, we really don't have much to go on.
Thanks for the reply
Jodi Sigman LeBlanc

I told you a lie. The census I found James Sigman and family on was 1830 Union township, Clermont (Clairmont) , Ohio. It dosen't show the childrens names, but the ages for the boys was correct, as was the place of birth. Thanks, Rainy Sigman Roelen

Jodi, I appreicate your message. How is Daniel Sigman related to you? He was my Great Great Grandfather. Sheila also wrote to me, But she cannot substancheate his fathers name. I found Daniel on a 1840 Census in Richland Township, Logan County, Ohio. That document says his fathers name is James, born in Pennsylvaina.
I believe the reason Daniel does not show up after 1860 is because he was killed in the Civil War. If Sarah remarried and you have information about that could you please share that with me.
The reason I am looking for James is because I believe he is the immigrant in our family and we would like to know where we came from. I am pretty much stuck at the moment. I have been trying for months to find more information. If you could help it would be greatly appreicated. Thanks, Rainy Sigman Roelen

Hi,
I just replied to Rainy's post and wanted to let you know that I have been trying to find Daniels lineage as well. I did find something about Daniel dying in 1861 and I found where Sarah had remarried. The person who posted Daniel and Sarah's history stated Daniels Fathers name was Abraham. I have not confirmed that information, but I'm looking. I do have Daniels history back to my father who is still living.

Best regards,
Jodi LeBlanc

I think you are correct - re Thomas and Mary. Benjamin (their son) married a Inie (Elan) I. Aman and had a daughter Leona M. Sigman DOB 01 Jan 1899 DOD 5 Apr 1979. She was married to Charles Owen Beck - lived and died in Seattle, Washington. They did not have any children. Charles passed before Leona by 5 years. I am researching the Beck's and I am wondering "who" might have received Leona's personal belongings as they had no children. Charles Beck had 2 siblings - one my grandmother (Edna Mae (Beck) Kennedy) and a brother named Alfred Warren Beck. I am trying to locate a photo album of the Beck's when they were children in Armour, South Dakota and Yakima, Washington. My grandmother does not have such an album - which leaves Charles/Leona and Alfred (who I have not been able to locate). Do you or do you know of anyone who might have any information that will help me locate some pics? I have one pic of Leona at age 50+ and one of Charles at age 3+. If you are interested in getting a copy of their headstones, I have posted the pics at: "find-a-grave.com" they are buried at the Williamette National Cemetery in Portland Oregon. I appreciate any assistance you can proved.

Could you share the information about George and Daniel Sigman's siblings. I found only those 2. They are deffenitly brothers. I am looking for their parents also. I believe their fathers name was James and mother Sarah. James shows up on I believe an 1830 census. There were no names of children or wife that far back but the ages of Daniel and George were correct. I found Daniel and George's children and I have put them on my family tree on One World;s family tree. Where did you get the information about George's parents being from Penn? I would love the talk with you further. Thanks, Rainy Roelen

I think they were from Antwerp, but haven't found the immigrant. Any help would be marvelous. Rainy Sigman Roelen

All I know is what I have posted here.

From the book BULLETIN DE LA SOCIETE HISTORIQUE ABITIBIENNE LA SARRE.

Hello,

My new e-mail is swy19@sbcglobal.net

This is my first time writing here, hope it gets to you.

I believe Daniel is my gr, gr??uncle.
In 1850 Daniel and Sarah lived in Greenville, Bureau Illinois next to or with (bro or cous or?) George Sigman and wife Sarah.

This is as far back as I can get. George, Born in Ohio as well as other three.

After 1850 Daniel never showed up on census' with sarah and family, but she did have more children as I recall, Sigmans. perhaps he traveled?

George says, his Mom and Dad were born in Pennsylvania... per 1880 census, Ottawa, Ottawa, Kansas. If Daniel is his brother, his parents would
be from Penn.

If you have any info, would greatly appreciate it.
I cannot find marriage or birth info to track george
or sarahs' parents

Thanks, Good Luck, Sheila
