Sills in Kentucky

I am searching for relatives last known to be in the Paducah city,McCracken area. My G-Grand father Douglas Sills and grandma edna had seven kids. Some info I have is that Their son Floyd (1895-1971) married Seythia Wilkerson abt 1917 and had William and Sara Sills. Floyd remarried in 1926 to Virginia (last name unknown) and had three (?) children, One by the name of Virginia in 1928. There is indication these children are living. Any info to finding my kin..living,passed,burial plots etc, would be greatly appreciated!

Searching for Collaboration of Maclin Sills 1790-1853 Columbia Co., GA.

All the research I've done on Maclin Sills born 1790 in SC lead to the parents being Thomas Sell, a Quaker born 1756 in NJ and Mary Shannon. Maclin according to what I've found was the descendant of Jonathan Sell and Sarah Tatem and the name was changed from Sell to Sills.

I am somewhat skeptical due to the first census showing "Sills" living in SC. and NC. during this time. Maclin was born in Abbeyville, SC. Jonathan Sell and Joseph Maddox left Cane Creek Meeting in NC around 1768, and led over 60 families to an area near Thomson GA. They named the town Wrightsboro after Royal Gov. Sir James Wright. There were no mention that they stopped in SC and Maclin wasn't born until 1790 in SC.

If anyone has any other info to substaniate or disprove the connection of Maclin Sills to the Thomas and Jonathan Sell clan please let me know your source. Thanks so much.

Sincerely,
Tony Sills
3rd great grandson to Maclin Sills and Cynthia Holliman

my greatgrand fathers name was Hershel Sills and my grandmothers name was Vivian Louise Sills, we are from Byesville Ohio. The family rumor is that my great grandfathers parents were German Jews whose last name was Coen or Cohen and came to American and changed their last name to Sills. Is anyone familiar with this type of history with the last name of Sills?

Thanks for your info. I'll start checking around about George H. If they lived in Illinois, I might be able to help you there. I live in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.

It's nice to meet another maybe relative from down under. I have been corresponding with a lady who might be from the other side of the family who lives in New Zealand. Ain't the internet grand?

I will keep in touch.

Paula
Hi again Paula, Thanks for your interest. Its been a four year slog for me to get this far with the Sells tree, with almost daily searching.

I am from Liverpool UK, came out to Ozz in 1983 with hubby a 3 sons.

My father was also John James Sells born 1905 in Liverpool.

His father J.J.Sells 1877 Pa. took off when he was a baby and his mother died when he was six, my dad was put into care.

The story was "J.J.Sells Pa". had a fight with his mother 1897 in Philly and took off for Ireland, stopping at Liverpool on the way.(havent found him on any passenger lists yet)
There he met and married My granma Edith 1903, then my dad was born 1905.

Apart from what I see on the census's (1880 Philly census has Mary A. down as Ada Sells, this is a transcription error, should maybe read Anna ?)

I have found Georgianna May Sells marriage cert 1897 Philly on which her mother reads as Mary A. Mcdermott.
This I think is her maiden name, cant find a remarriage.

Mary A. is then McDermott a widow on all later Philly census's. I havent found a death for her. I have death details for John J. and Georgianna both buried in Philla.

My grandads birth data is...

John James Sells... 15th April 1877 Pa. (county unknown)
Mother... Mary A. Sells 1856c Pa. (maiden unknown)
Father... George H Sells. Pa. (or John ??)

As I said earlier Georgianna was born a little over a year later and her birth data states George H. Sells cashier as the father. They lived in Philly then.

I have been unable to locate John James's birth details at Market St. Some one was kind enough to have a quick look two years ago but couldnt afford the time to search properly. I think this was due to the names not being in any sort of order.

If you hear anyones story is missing a George H. I may be able to claim him, ha ha .
The only one I could find was the ones in Bedford, didnt know what happened to him, he dissapeared.

Cheers again, thanks for listening.....Jean.

Thank you Paula, I will digest this info and get back to you.

My Grt Grandad George H Sells married a lady called Mary A.
unknown...(maybe a McDermott but not proven yet.)

Mary A. was born in Penn. 1856c so I figured husband George may be around same age as her. But maybe not.!
George was born in Pa. according to census.

They had two children John James Sells 1877 Pa.
Georgianna May Sells 1879 Pa. (Phila)

1880 Phila. census it gives Mary A. as a widow alone with her children. Mary A. was also known as Annie or Ann.

It looks like George H Sells had died between 1878 + 1880.

George may have been a police officer. Havent proof of this yet.

Son John James's marriage cert (1903) says his father was a Police Officer. He also states his fathers name was 'John Sells'.
I dont think this to be true.
I have his sisters Georgianna's birth details and it
states the fathers name was George H Sells, a cashier. It doesn't say he is deceased then.

I always feel I must fit into this Sells tree somewhere, just cant find where. I cant find a George Sells on the census's in Philly at all.

Thanks again for this info... I will write again soon.
I live in Australia. .. J.J.

Hi, I am looking for GEORGE H. SELLS(1849). SELLS (1848)on same census.

Unable to trace them any further I have read on here that they changed their name to SILL or SILLS.

GEORGE H. may be my great grandfather. I have the surname SELLS.

There was someone on here with the name of 'JenOliphant' who was researching this line.
I dont know how to contact her/him.
Hi my name is david sills and my father is jesse sills but not the one your thinking of . I think we are related way back and if you are italian ill bet we are. I am 11 years old and I somehow found this and I think your dad is my great great grandpa. I think this because there is only one sills family in all the phonebooks and even the whole state of New York.

A distant cousin of mine has been doing some extensive research along with some researchers in Ohio and we are convinced that our John Shearer is somehow associated with the following people, but we are still trying to determine relationships. I saw on the LDS IGI that at least one of the Thomas Shearers is listed as born in Crawford County, PA. Does anyone have an info on any of these?

John Shearer - possibly born in Ireland (1755-1832) md. Sarah Cochran (1770-1851)
Thomas Shearer (1780- ) md. Mrs. Ann Sills
Thomas Shearer (1801-1878) md. Eleanor Drake (1796-1861)
