This should be the same Simmons we are working on. In a 1851 census of Middleton, Norfolk County, Ontario both men show up as neighbors. John age 56, wife Hanah and 8 children. Then David 56, wife Cisley and 8 children. then James (David's adult son) age 22 and wife Catherine 20.

Both men state U. States as birth place.

George W. Simmons born in Buffalo New York

I have been researching the Simmons Family for the past 30 years. I know my GG grand-parents Charles and Annette Simmons were in Buffalo in the mid 1800's. I find the family on both the 1860 and 1870 Federal Census. They were married in approximately 1854. I do not know where the marriage took place. Charles used his middle name while he lived in Buffalo - his birth name is Nathan C. Simmons. His wife is Annette Vanderburgh (Vanderburg Vandenburg Vanderberg) The Simmons family lived in the Fifth ward near the corner of Hickory and Division. They had five children born to them while living in Buffalo. My Great Grand-father is George W. (Washington) Simmons. He was born on March 1, 1867. Unfortunatley I do not know what church the family may have attended. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE if someone could please check the Buffalo newspaper(s) for a possible birth announcement for my GG Grandfather. I am hoping and praying that the name of a church may be listed. Thank you so much for your time and consideration in helping me with my search.

Cheryl Ann

NOTE: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send your reply to me at Whatdahek@sbcglobal.net

I find your James I Simmons listed in the Alabama Death Records:
James I Simmons, died 7 16 1929 in Dozier, Covington,AL, age 63 years 10 days, born 7 6 1866 in Monroe, AL, spouse, Ida, Father Joe Simmons, born Monroe, AL, mother Mollie A Wilkerson born Monroe, AL, James was buried in Goodhope Church Cemetery
I have not yet been able to find this Joe Simmons and wife, Mollie in the census.
James I Simmons was in the 1910 census for Crenshaw, Al.
In this same census was a Mollie Simmons, age 66 born Al living in the home of what looks like Mass Arthur age 33 born Al and Cornelia E Arthur, age 33 born Al. This census shows Mollie was the mother in law.
Then in 1920 Census for Crenshaw, for Mass Author age 45 and wife Louie, (not sure of this name, will check more)
In this census shows the mother in law as Mary A Simmons age 74, born Al
This Mary A (Mollie is a nickname for Mary) is probably the mother of your James I Simmons as the death certificate shows mother was: Mollie A Wilkerson. I will try to check more on this.
Peggy Hill

I only have a baptismal record for him. So, I was hoping that you might have a location where he lived prior to his marriage to see if the two are the same.

I do know that his older siblings are Anna/Ann, Elizabeth, William/Wilhelm, and Geertje. They were all born in Columbia Co., NY.

"Possible" younger siblings/half siblings are Andrew and another brother, (both born in Columbia Co. NY) and Catharine and Lucinda (both born Greene Co., NY), and there is also an Albert (born in Albany Co., NY) who has some type of connection to Conrad.

Andrew is my gg grandpa.
I correspond with descendant of Catharine.

If your John and my John are the same person, he wasn't living with his parents in 1820 (Greenville, Greene Co. NY census).

An 1855 census would show which county your John was born in.

I'll keep digging!
Cindy

If this is Almon D married Dorothy Wixon then he only came to MI after 1910 census.
The Almon D Simmons was born Aug 1838 in OH, married Dorothy/Dolly Wixon abt 1867/68. He was in ILL when he joined the Union Army and in 1870 census he is living in Meeker County MN listed as WD (written as A.D.) Simmons age 33 b. OH with Dorathy age 19 b. NY and Grant age 1 b. MN. A Wixon household is above. Almon D Simmons family is in Meeker Co MN thru 1910 census. In 1920 census he in Marquette, MacKinac County MI.
I helped sometime back someone else researching this line.

If Ann Beach was married to a Nathan Simmons then she is not A.D.'s mother. The Nathan Simmons married to an Ann have a son Almon b. 1827 in NY. This family is in the 1850 & 1860 census in Hamilton, Warren Co OH and in 1860 listed as Simonds. A.Z. Simods is 33 in household wth wife and son below N.T. nas A.M. Simonds.

Hopes this helps keep them straight.

Marjiellyn Simmons, age 78, Born in Mattoon, Ill. daughter of ,Frederick and Helena Riggen Voigt.
Marjiellyn Simmons .
Marjiellyn Simmons, age 78,
of 235 Walnut Street, Edinboro, Pa.
died Monday, October 26, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa. Born in Mattoon, Ill.
on June 19, 1931,
she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Helena Riggen Voigt.
She married John Roger Simmons on March 8, 1953
and he survives.
Marjiellyn will forever be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her love and devotion to her family was obvious to all and was evidenced by her marriage of 56 years and her relationships with her husband, two sons, daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. Marjiellyn considered her sons’ wives as daughters, not daughters-in-law, and held a very close, loving relationship with their families including Jacquelene and Don Paulson. Marjiellyn was a loving homemaker. Her family loved her outstanding cooking and has many fond memories sharing her meals. After her sons were raised she spent many years working as a secretary. First, she worked in Girard at the Battles School, and after moving to Edinboro, began employment at Edinboro University in the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department. She enjoyed her work there for many years until 1981, when her youngest son, Martin, opened his optometric practice in Erie. She worked alongside her son for the following 15 years until retiring in 1996. After retirement, Marjiellyn and John moved to Naples, Fla. to enjoy the sun before moving back to Edinboro earlier this year. As her children and grandchildren’s biggest fan, Marjiellyn never missed any of their sporting events. She was an avid sports enthusiast and even spent wedding anniversaries with her husband at athletic events. Her knowledge of sports exceeded most serious sports enthusiasts. She also was an accomplished Bridge player and instructor. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was active in an organization of Edinboro University which welcomed new faculty members. Over the years, she attended the Girard and Edinboro Presbyterian Churches, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Edinboro. She participated in the choir in Girard and the Worship Committee in Edinboro. Marjiellyn was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Vernon Voigt, John Voigt, and her twin brother, Frederick Voigt; as well as a sister-in-law, Betty Voigt. Surviving family members who mourn her loss include her two sons, Frederick J. Simmons and his wife Diana S. of Gold River, Calif., and Martin B. Simmons and his wife Sue A. of Edinboro; five grandchildren, Sara A. and Rebecca F. Simmons, and Grant M., Brette K., and Caroline M. Simmons; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Voigt of Mattoon, Ill. Also surviving from Arlene’s family are Diane Barker, Verna Lee Jones and Donna Coffey, all from Mattoon, Ill. Surviving from John Voigt’s family are his sons, Scott and John Voigt. Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and may attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Bill Cox of McLane Church will officiate. Burial will take place in the Edinboro Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the McLane Church Benevolence Fund, 12511 Edinboro Road, Edinboro, PA 16412.
No one in my family knows anything past Almon Simmons born in 1838 in OH. However, Almon Simmons lived most of his life and died in Michigan. From my research I have found that some think his mother's name was Annie Beach. Could there be a connection? A letter from Almon shows that he had brothers but no one knows their last names or any information about them.

ladybuglacy@yahoo.com

Dear Terry: I think I have isolated your John B. Simmons.
If that is the correct Frances E Edington I told you about they were in Dallas County, Mo in 1870.
Also in Dallas county Mo were some Simmons who were from Tennessee: John Simmons married to Margaret Yoakum or Yokum. This couple had a son named John Simmons who was born about 1842. This John born 12 21 1815 died in Dallas County, MO about 1871 so we may be able to prove this by will or estate or something.
Anyway, If you will EMail me your regular mailing address, I will send you family sheets on them along with the names of others who are researching this line.

I have a new EMail but send it to both just in case:
Peggyhill@prodigy.net
peggyhill1577@wildblue.net

Peggy Hill

3 girls adopted from Colorado between 1928-1930 + or - Elpaso County, Colorado. Possible Names, Evelyn, Mary & Etta

These ladies are my half aunts. I have been searching for them for years. If you might know them, Please let me know. This is what I know.

There mother Katherine Houdyshell/Simmons died in 1928. After giving birth to baby Etta who was born, April 23, 1928. The other two girls were born Nov. 1922 and Feb. 1925. All born in Elpaso County, Colorado Springs, Colorado. I cannot get there birth certificates, due to I am a niece and not a sibling. They are said to have been taken by the state, some time after there mother passed away. There father, Harry Simmons could not watch them as he had to work. It is said, that Harry never gave up parent rights but the state took them and adopted them out anyway.

It is also said, they were adopted to family that lived in California. I know there sister Afton met one or all of them at one time. I take it the meeting didn't go well. Something about, they had rich families and didn't want to have anything to do with her or there brother Willard. Don't quote me on that. That is just the rumor in the mill.

I have wondered about them since I was very young. I have found Willard, Afton and there brother Arthur who was killed in a terrible out accident in 1930. I would really like to know these 3 ladies or at the very least there Families. Nothing else and nothing more. There dad married again, and had 10 children from his second wife. One of which I came from. Harry had a total of 16 children. These 3 are the last to be found.

Any help would be appreciated deeply.
Thank You,
Jud

Peggy, unless this William F. had 2 families I doubt it's mine. William & Martha left in 1870 for Bedford Co., Pa. & didn't return 'till 1900, after their family was raised. This question has been presented to me numerous times. I have record that that William F. married Evaline Long. Confusing to say the least. If you can show me differently I'd be happy to claim this line & go on. Thanks! Okey

Ida married Ed Oliver and they moved to Harney CO Oregon, After the Pete French incident, and Oliver abandoning the family, Ida divorced Oliver and married a man by the name of Peterson and they lived in Burns, OR. She is buried in Burns, OR. Perhaps that is where the Oliver Peterson info came from, however, it is erronious.

Hope you are still at this e-mail address after nearly 10 years.

I guess I am a cousin of yours. I am a descendent of William J. Yarbrough that was married to your ancestor's sister, Sarah Jane Simmons. She is also buried at Roxana.

I really don't know if it is Louis or John B. I got the john B. Simmons from another relative but, I guess that could be wrong. Maybe it is Louis. Thank you for the information. I'll try to research Louis and see where that may lead me.
John B. Simmons

I am looking for information on John B. Simmons, born abt. 1841 in Missouri. He married Francis E. Eddington abt. 1872 in, probably, Missouri. They had the following children: William born abt 1883, Luther born abt. 1884, Pearl born abt. 1889, Myrtle born abt. 1891, Chauncy born abt. 1893, Nora born abt. 1877 and Frank born abt. 1879. The first three, I believe, were born in Kansas and the rest in Missouri. Any information anyone has, I would be grateful to get.
Please e-mail me at tag8080@tx.rr.com
Thanks, Terry Greene

This is interesting, as my 3rd g-grandparents are John THARRETT and Angline FORD who settled in Davison, Genesee County, Michigan. I had seen the name of James THARRETT & Mary NEEDLER previously, but could not tie John to his family.

On the headstone in Pine Grove cemetery, Davison, MI. the death date for John THARRETT is 07 Jan 1895, Age 76 years 9 months 25 days...this would give him a birthdate of 12 Mar 1818. Is there a source (primary or secondary)that has this family of James THARRETT & Mary NEEDLER which list their children. Can share what I have on John THARRETT and Angline FORD family

I found a grave for a Zoele Simmons in the Wilkerson Cemetery in Larue, Jackson County Mississippi.
Her birthdate is 11/12/1868 and her death date is 2/1/1908.
Does anyone have any information on this person? Is it possible that she was born a Cruthirds?

Thank you for your reply. I can not find anything further on the zoadell, no death record or burial. This Zoele was born in November, just one year later than Zoadell and she died right between the 1900 and 1910 census which is when Zoadell disappeared from the census. I just wondered if maybe the zoadell was yet another mispelling and should have been zoele. I don't know if it should be pronounced zoe-ell or or zoe-lee or zoe-lel. They also have her age wrong she would have been 33 in 1900, not 52.
It's a long shot, but sometimes they pay off.
