Just found your posting. You have another American cousin. My husband's family is descended from the Simons. I noticed that Roxanne Munns also replied to you. Where her husband is descended from Malachi, my husband's gg grandfather was Nicholas (born March 1829)(married Mary Wallace), brother of Malachi. Nicholas was born to Nicholas Simons (born January 1798 and married Christian Matthews)(Edmond's brother?) son of Nicholas and Jane. Nicholas and his father immigrated to Wisconsin in 1848.

We visited Perranuthnoe several years ago and have some pictures of the church yard and Nicholas and Jane's grave marker. I am willing to share the pictures if you are interested.

Hello, cousin!
My husband descends from Nicholas and Jane's son, Nicholas. Nicholas, Jr. married Christian MATTHEWS 04 Oct 1828 in Perranuthnoe, and came to the USA in 1848. They settled in Grant County, Wisconsin (good mining, just like Cornwall). They had five children, with my husband's line coming through the second son, Malachi. Malachi married Mary Elizabeth (SEMMENS) ROWE, and had three children. The only son is Richard Henry SIMONS. Richard married Millie DEMPSEY, and they had two children. The only daughter is Orva Blanche SIMONS, who married Wilson Arthur MUNNS, and these are my husband's g-grandparents.
I've got a marriage record for Nicholas SIMONS and Jane DONAL. Also Nicholas SIMONS and Christian MATTHEWS marriage record, also in Cornwall. We have some pictures that we believe are Nicholas and Christian SIMONS (the writing on the back is inconclusive - like, "dad's grandparents" or something). Lots of pictures of Malachi and Mary Elizabeth and all the rest of the generations.
My husband was atually born in Grant County, Wisconsin, and we still have family there, so we get back often. I've got pictures of headstones for Nicholas and Christian, and many other family members.
I'd really love to learn more about the descendants of Edmond! Let me know an e-mail address, and I'll be happy to send you a report on the descendants of Nicholas, Jr.
Roxanne

Simons San Pedro Ca about 1924

Hello,
I am looking for a Simons family that lived in San Pedro, California (Los Angeles Harbor area) in 1924. I do not have any first names. I am living in their house and would love to find more info about them. The house was first built in 1902, but I do not know if they were the original owners. The name Simons and the year 1924 are in some stonework. The initials L and C may be significant. I appreciate any and all help. Thank you!
Probedriver20@aol.com

Re: Thomas J Simons

Hi mustacheusa2--

I too am looking for information on a Thomas Jefferson Simons. He's my great-grandfather, and I know he was born in 1849 or 1850. Where is the question. One census (1880) lists his birthplace as "Canada," but my grandmother said he was born in Ireland. I think the Canada birthplace is more likely, as he married my great-grandmother there (Ontario) before emigrating to the U.S. (Michigan) in about 1878 or 79. He's listed in several Polk Directories for Bay City, MI, from 1881 to 1884 as a baker. Then the 1885 director lists "Mrs. Lydia Simons" at the same address as a baker, so I think that's the year he died. Yet there is no record of his death or burial in Michigan, or (so far as I can find online) in Ontario. I know your ancestor comes from Oklahoma, but if you see anything pertaining to a Thomas Jefferson Simons further north, would you contact me? You can write me at jiggs1000@hotmail.com. Thanks for your help

Hello, very happy to share any and all that I have. Although I'm slightly off branch, I'm currently thinking we are on the same tree and have many of the same connections!

I'm from Henry Simons branch. The HB Simons that is mentioned in the original post - if the same as I'm thinking would be a nephew of my relative Henry Simons. I have records of him visiting Henry in Afton, Iowa in the 1880s. Henry, although from this area had moved to Afton, where he died along with his wife Rebecca (Jaynes).

James and Lydia as I've been researching - I've suspected to be potentially a brother to Henry, but possibly a cousin. The census information can be so sketchy when you get earlier than 1840 as you know.

I'm eager to understand if you know anything about the siblings/parents of Henry and if he's connected in any way to your branch that you might know for sure. I have a great deal of information from Henry on down to today -- and have quite a few puzzle pieces that have not yet been put together.

Thanks for your time

My name is Pat Simons - p.simons@comcast.net

My family lives where there were alot of Italian immigrants in the 1930's and 1940's and a grade school teacher tried to make my mom believe that her name was supposed to be spelled Simoncic, not Simons. I once overheard a call that my grandpa got from a tellemarketer, he said "I am sorry but there is no one here named Archie Simmons, call back when you want to talk to Archie Simons." How can anyone mispronounce a name that is so easy? It's just Simon + S.

I am looking for any information on Thomas J. Simons b. 1925 in Diamond Township, Haskell County, Oklahoma. He can be found at the age of 5 on the 1930 US Census. Thomas is listed as an only child for Albert Simons and Iona (Ermer) Simons. Both Albert and Ermer are buried at Miners Cemetery in McCurtain, Oklahoma but the case went cold when it came to Thomas. I'm only guessing but I think Thomas' middle name might be Jefferson because Thomas Jefferson was his grandfather's name.

Yes, irritating, isn't it! My family legends say that the single letter/double letter spelling is the same family, but spelling with a y instead, or with a d - thus, Symons or Simonds, are different. My research doesn't quite bear that out, and one branch of the family changed the spelling to Symons in the later 19th century.

As to telemarketers and similar people - if they can't do the basic record keeping well enough, why should we trust their company to do something more complex?!

I don't think Jemima's married name was Carpenter - it may have been, but Samuel's daughter Mahala married a John Carpenter and her son's name was George W. Carpenter. Intermarriages between families happened alot, but I wondered from the census record if this was possibly Carpenter grandchildren living with them at the time. Mahala died in 1861, so if the census record was from around that date (I'd have to find it again), it may be that the older children were sent to be useful to their grandfather. I've seen who I thought to be Jemima's last name as Ery here and there, but haven't seen any marriage records to confirm it, yet. I think there's another Samuel Simons that might be running around Indiana at that time range, so it's hard to keep his family from ours.

Re: Walter Simons

Where did he die and what age was he? My grandmother's half brother was Walter Simons born 1877 Sheffield. He lived in Dronfield, Derbyshire then Workington in Cumberland (Cumbria) and we have lost track of him after 1891 census. He was a tailor.
