Sims of Meigs Co. Ohio (early 1800's)

Trying to find the Simms family of my 4G's grandmother, Susannah Sims/Simms (b.1830 OH). She married my 4G's grandfather Jeptha Conner (b.1826 IN) in Cass Co. Indiana in 1849. I now have reason to believe her parents were a William and Catharine Sims, b. abt 1795/1785 respectively, both in Pennsylvania. They appear several pages prior to Jeptha and Susan in the US 1850 census, listed under son John's household:

1850 US Census - Adams, Cass, Indiana
John Sims, m age 30, born OH
Elizabeth, f age 26, IN
Jerome, m age 3, IN
Cynthia, f age 2, IN
William, m age 55, PA
Catharine A., f age 24, OH
Ferebey, f age 22, OH
Catharine E., f age 65, PA
Rebecca, f age 1/2, IN

I found what appears to be this same William Sims in the US 1820 Census in Olive, Meigs Co. Ohio. Both above him and below him (into the next page) are listed other Sims households: John, Frances, John (older), and Barnet. I also found an Edward Sims and a Hezekiah Sims in neighboring communites in the same county.

Anyone have further info on these various Sims families of Meigs Co. Ohio that could possibly prove or disprove a connection to my Susan Sims? or at least her possible father, William Sims?
Good luck, My Fathers Grandpa was John William Henry Sims and yes that was his full name.

My Dads dad was Stanley Glenn Sims Born in Brown,Stephens,Oklahoma in 1911
He died in Midland, Texas in 1980 before my dad or any of his grandchildren that his son gave him.

How are you related?

I can not find out anything other than what I allready have on them the census etc. and it was Margarett M (Mattie or Maggie) Tew born in Alabama. That was John William Henry Sims's wife. I do have her information back a way, but nothing more.

There were 6 children born to them total

1907 Everett L Sims Died 2001 Austin Texas
1909 Ruby M Sims Dead I am sure
1911 Stanley Glenn Sims died 1980
1917 Thelma M Sims Dead I am sure
1918 Pauline Sims Very slim chance alive but anceint
1923 Howard Sims Prob living but very old.

I hate to say this to you, but on every single Census they list their family as White, But their might be a glimmer of hope for you My father told me that his mother told him that his dad....(whom a banded him as soon as he was born) said he might be part Mexican, now that might not be what you want to hear, but it could be true or it could be Indian, but I am certain my father is very Tan, but passed for white with some kind of mix race but more on the white side, But I guess his mom was blonde hair blue eyes so who knows.

If they are the same family, I would really like to know something about my Grandfather and his family, I am sure he re-married and had more kids and I am sure I prob have Aunts and Uncles, Cousins etc.

Get a hold of me, My email is tabandmike1@gmail.com

Thanks

Re: John Jarrett Sims, Jr.

I can tell you some about John Jarrett Sims and hope you are willing to share information with me.

Unfortunately, some of the data in my file is not as well documentes as I would like it to be.

John Jarrett Sims, Jr. was born abt. 1836 probably in Lancaster Co., SC. and died 3 Feb. 1889 in Logan Co., AR.
I don't have the name or location of the cemetery where he is buried.
He was 1st married 17 March 1861 to Elizabeth Ann Mullins in Blount Co., AL. She was born 20 Aug. 1843 in Blount Co., AL. I don't have when or where she died and is buried. However, it appears fourteen (14) children were born to her. Your ancestor, John Alonzo Sims, was the first of her children. He was born 26 Sept. 1862. All I have is that he wa born in Misissippi and died 19 July 1949 at Dardenelle, Yell Co., AR.
Let me know if you don't have names and dates of all fourteen (14) children.

John Jarrett Sims, Jr. was 2nd married 12 Oct. 1886 to Mattie M.T. Ward in Yell Co., AR.
That is all I have in my file about Mattie M.T. Ward.

As best as I've been able to determine, John Jarrett Sims, Sr. was born abt. 1803 in Lancaster Co., SC and married there abt. 1825 to Agnes Nancy "Jane" Mackey, born abt. 1805 in Lancaster Co., SC. and died abt. 1853 in Lancaster Co., SC.
I don't have when or where John Jarrett Sims, Sr. died and is buried.
He, John Jarrett Sims, his wife and some of their children are enumerated in the 1850 census for Lancaster County, South Carolina. Residing next door is the eldest son, Thomas Mackey Sims, and his wife and children.
Agnes Nancy "Jane" Mackey was a daughter of Thomas Mackey and wife, Mary Ann Crenshaw.
It is unclear to me if John Jarrett Sims, Sr. and wife, Agnes Nancy "Jane" Mackey had eight (8) or nine (9) children. There may have been one born abt. 1832 that died young? Of all the children, I've done more collecting of data on the second son, Andrew Jackson Sims, and wife Sarah Henderson and their children. He, Andrew Jackson Sims, was born 24 July 1828 in Lancaster Co., SC. and died 2o Dec. 1910 in Blount Co.,AL. He and wife, Sarah, are both buried in the Austin Creek Cemetery in Blount Co., AL. Andrew and Sarah had eleven (11) children and most, if not all, were born in Blount Co., AL.
Andrew Jackson Sims served with the Confederacy during the Civil War. Rank "Pvt" Co. "F" 48th Alabama Infantry.
He filed for pension 1892-6 Blount Co., AL.

I don't know if anyone has proven the parents of John Jarrett Sims, Sr. However, it seems possibly his father was Sherrod Sims. I've been gathering data about Sherrod Sims for some time and know that he died abt. age 95 in Lancaster Co., SC. There is some good information available about his service during the French & Indian Wars as well as during the Revolutionary War.

My great-grandad (Henry Osborne Sims) had a brother named Emory E. Sims, that died in Oklahoma in 1973. I do not have any knowledge of any other Sims in my family living in Oklahoma as Emory actually lived in navarro County, TExas. Henry and Emory's parents wer named Joe Berry Sims (b1856-1922), and Mary Emma (Hagler) Sims (b1867-1941). All people named in this email are burried at Eureka Cemetary, navarro County, Texas. The only other Sims burried there is a John J. Sims-died in 1909. I do not know if he is any relation. This is as far as I have been able to find on my grandmothers-fathers side. However, my mom said that Mary Emma Hagler was full blooded indian. If you have any info or if this helps, please let me know.

John died in 1810 and Ann died 11 Apr 1826 both in Hopkins County, KY. As far as I know they had my direct ancestor Agnes, Starling, and Anne. I believe there was one more girl but not sure her name was Isabella. I have proved my Agnes beyond a doubt. Not only does she name her daughter Milly Sims Alexander, but her grand duaghter is named Milly Sims Beshear. I also followed a slave down the line that there was a fight over in a divorce and Agnes states it came from her father's estate.

Sims family Bossier LA 1850 & Lafayette AR 1860

In the 1850 census for Bossier Parish La
Nathaniel Simms 47 Miss
Julia Ann 30 Ala
Letha 15 Ark
Martha 13 Ark
William 11 Ark
Napoleon 9 Ark
Henry 7 Ark
Mary 5 Ark
Amanda 1/12 La

On Letha's death certificate, it shows her Father as MADISON SIMS. Her parents marriage license shows names as William M. Sims and Martha Lewis.

1860 census for Lafayette Co AR
S.E. Corgill 29 SC (they married 1852 in Bossier LA)
Letha W 25 AR
Mary A 6 LA
William A 5 LA
Leathy A 4 LA
F. 1 LA
Wm F. Sims 22 AL
Napoleon Sims 17 AL
Mary Sims 14 LA
I know that the first 4 kids are Letha and S.E. Corgill's. I assume Wm F., Napoleon and Mary are Letha's siblings. I have information about William Francis Sims and I know that Napoleon died in the Civil War of measles, as did S.E. Corgill. They enrolled on the same date, in the same company.

I have seen information that says Mary married William Rames in 1861 in Lafayette Co AR. Marriage database on Ancestry says his names was RAINES. He died abt 1865. The marriage database then shows a Mary RAMES married Ingram Morgan in Lafayette Co AR in 1865. I have not been able to find Mary Raines or Mary Rames or Mary Morgan or Ingram Morgan in any census. I even turned it around and searched for Morgan Ingram, still no luck.

I need to find more info on Mary.

Next, my questions concern the other kids listed in the 1850 census, Martha, Henry and Amanda. I haven't been able to find anything on these kids after 1850. Were they kids of Nathaniel? Were some of them William Madison's and some Nathaniel's? I can't find anything on Nathaniel other than the 1850 census. Maybe some of the kids were Letha's siblings, but thay are not living with her in 1860 because they were already married?

Lot of questions in this bunch and not many answers. I have info on Letha's family and William Francis's family. I would be glad to hear from anyone with any connection.

Thanks, Jo

Hi, Alice! I have managed to track my family to Thomas Sims in South Carolina, so we are related! Most of my family were in the Trussville area. I have found that Thomas Sims (SC) was a tyrant and all of his children moved away from him except for his youngest who inherited everything upon Thomas' death. Rumor has it that Thomas was in the fields with his slaves and had ordered them to cut down a tree, which "accidently" fell on Thomas. Apparently, no one cared enough to look into it. If legend is true, then he was quite a character, I must say! If you need any info on anyone from my area, let me know and I'll be happy to help if I can! Thanks! Terri

I don't know if this helps.. or if it is a connection. My Sims were said to have Cherokee. I found some evidence my gggggrandfather b. 1803 was born in S or N Carolina but had migrated to Cherokee County, Alabama. But we have so many different sets of Sims in that area. Unable to find any evidence for brothers or sisters. or even his father. He married Sarah Hawthorne. Had several children-- one was a John Sims (this is all I have found on him) b. 1849. Had several siblings.. I have found one migrated to Giles County, Tn-- George A Sims m. Mary J. My gggrandfather migrated to Lincoln County, Tn m. Cena Swinford. I have several of James Sims line (my line). Does this help any?
The different set of Sims uses the same names over and over in the 1800.s. Another set has a James Albert Sims and that is my ggggrandfather's name also but different lines or unable to connect them yet..
Does this sound like anything you were told?
Alice

My William's grandfather came from South Carolina. Thomas Sims. migrated to Cherokee County, Ala, then the sons migrated to Lincoln County, Tennessee where my William was born. Thomas is my brick wall. Can't find connections to any of the Sims yet..
I have not been able to do the Sims reunions for the last 3 years. Hopefully we can do it again.. I have tried to get others to do it..
Alice

Sarah Ellen Sims

My g-g grandmother was Sarah Ellen Sims;she married Alexander Mathew Wiseman 14 Oct 1858 in Monroe Co,Va(now WV).
In most of my research I have found her parents listed as "Thomas P. Sims and Mary Jane Bates".

A few weeks ago i visited the Monroe Co,WV courthouse. I was able to find the original marriage certificate, but it listed her parents as "Robert and Sarah Sims".
Also, with the marriage certificate was a statement from "Sally Sims"(Sarah?)that she had no objection to the marriage.

Can anyone help me with this ? Who are Sarah Ellen's parents??

Thanks,
Sharon
