Which Leitrim was that? - there are several in Ireland. If you mean Leitrim, Banbridge, that would have been in Singer country, as it were, and that may well be the family origins of both parents, even if Derek was born in England. I assume the grandfather your mother's father? I assume you have already asked surviving family members (mother's siblings) for help?

My birth certificate provided the same address we lived in during the blitz. We were bombed out and relocated to Ireland on grandfathers farm in Leitrim. Derek's occupation was listed as "plumber" but I have been unsuccessful in finding a viable trade group with records going back that far. Mother once told me he was a jack of all trades so he may not have been a registered plumber and no formal records would exist. I fear I will be in my grave before hurdling this wall.

Sorry, I cannot help you. Just a couple of ideas, though...

Derek is unusual as a forename in Ireland, and Maurice is virtually unheard of; Maurice is also unusual even now in England and Scotland. However, Maurice seems to turn up lots in US forenames; several of my irish ancestors were born in America, then came back with their families to resettle in Ireland. Is this a possibility? If he lived in England or Scotland for any length of time he will not have escaped the Census. Irish records are lost, so if he lived in Ireland he may have escaped any records up to 1922.

If you really are in the dark, you may find some information on your father on your birth certificate, occupation and address, and from that check trades bodies and parish registers.

As stated earlier, my mother may have provided misinformation regarding my father and there is an outside chance he was born in Ireland rather than Scotland or England. Because mother came from a staunch irish catholic family and she said he was not catholic, maybe they fled to England due to family pressures. I have never pursued looking in Ireland for birth data or wedding information because my older brother and I were both born in Battersea, England.

Is there a Derek Maurice Singer mentioned in any records from Ireland?

I am also having trouble locating details on William's father Robert.

That William from Mullaghdrin had a son William, who in turn had a son Samuel, brought up on Derryneil farm, who was my father. Hence I am of the same generation as you, being his great grandson.

The old house I have seen referred to only as Island House, so called because it once sat in the middle of the old mill stream/pond. Sorry if that is wrong.

I did call by the new house last year when I was in Ballyward, but no-one was around.

Sorry, no Derek Maurice in my family tree. But if he was born in England or Scotland there should be records available. He should also be picked up in the 1911 census unless he left the country beforehand.

Mrs. Lucinda Singer, aged 70, colored, died Friday evening at her home in Columbus, Ohio after a long illness of infirmities.
She was a native of this city (Zanesville, Ohio) and resided here until the family moved to Columbus seven years ago. She was highly respected. Four daughters and two sons survive. Mrs. Mary Carlisle of Keen street (Zanesville, Ohio) and Mrs. Elizabeth Norris, Mt Auburn street, this city; Mrs. Cora McCullough, Mrs. Florence Manner and William and Fred Singer of Columbus.
The body will be brought to this city from Columbus by motor this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and taken to ST. Paul A.M.E. church where funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Irwin, assisted by Rev. A. M. Thomas of the Union Baptist church will be in charge. Interment will be made in Greenwood cemetery.

Mrs. Mary G. Carlisle, 87, of 837 Vine street (Zanesville, Ohio) died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday in Highland Rest Home where she had been a patient for two months. She was the widow of Augustus Carlisle who died in 1936.
A lifelong resident of Muskingum county, (Ohio) she was born Dec. 12, 1873, a daughter of John and Lucinda Carr Singer.
Mrs. Carlisle was a member of St Paul A.M.E Church, it's Missionary society, Mother's Club and Stewardess Board.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Florence Seward of Columbus, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Hillis Funeral Home after noon today.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul A.M.E church with the Rev. Brooks Highgate officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery

My great great aunt Yetta Singer was born around 1884 in Minsk Russia...she married my great great uncle Hyman Wolowitz; they had 7 children-- David, Frieda (who went by the name of Fay), Charles, Samuel, Clara (who uses the name Clara, Lillian and Elinor.

I am trying to find more of her family for my second cousin once removed since Yetta was his grandmother. For the most part, the family lived in Brooklyn. Yetta died on 3/26/1932.

i know its a sin... but i only know as far back as my grandparents. lawerence singer and jean hirtle. i would love to know as far back as before my family came to canada.

i have been told by my father before he passed that we came from germany. i know that my section of the singer family came from around nole road.

from what i know (my immedite family) my family tree is kinda like this.

lawerence singer and jean hirtle had 5 kids oldest to youngest:

douglas john singer married (3 times) carol, jean st. croix, glenda.
dougs kids: cyril, michele, richard, barbara.

kenny - still born.

kathleen married then divorced.
kethleens kids: adam and adopted terence.

frank married margie. no kids.

catherine married charles nieforth.
kids: matthew, johnathan, amber.

one more fact that im really not sure of... someone (forget who) at my dads (doug) funeral that my great or great great grandmother was black.

thats about it...

i would love to have some help on even my grandfathers siblings.

any help would be very welcome!!!

I do not see a connection to my Singer family, yet. We know so little. Did my grandfather have Uncles there? Did he have any cousins? I am always hoping that he had relatives that survived the Holocaust and escaped but could not find him or his brothers. Maybe they had children who will someday see my posting. My great grandfather was also named Morris. He was married to an Eva Zeidman. Morris is from somewhere in Poland, although I belive it was Warsaw. Morris had children, one of which is my grandfather Albert, born in Poland. I don't know if this relates to the Singer's you are looking for, but thought I would try.

My GGrandfather is Selman E. Roach (b.1856), third child of Robert Roach and Sarah Singer. I've recently made contact with some of our long lost Singer relatives through a violin made in 1909 by Selman. That was the reason I was looking through the Singer posts, trying to fill in some of that history.

I'm trying to find the parents of John Singer who was in Rush County, Indiana in 1880. Census records list his DOB anywhere from 1846, 1850 or 1853. I'm not sure which is correct. I have Apolonia being born near Pittsburgh, Pa. in a town called Braddock, Pa in 1876 and dying in Braddock in 1930. I have her parents as Sabastian Singer and Anna VanBurkhart. Kissinger-Singer parents of Ernest, James, and Barney

Looking for the names of the parents of Ernest, James, and Barney Singer. Name was changed from Kissinger when they came to America from Germany. Father of the boys may be from Russian or Polish decent. Parents were sponsored by a lady from Lodi, CA, to come and work probably on a farm. Parents also had a farm in Bonners Ferry, ID and lived and died in Oregon. There does not seem to be any history for this family that I can find.

Singer,I was born in milford conn. my fathers name is David Thomas singer and his fathers name is Eddie Singer. i now live in FLorida and do not know much of them I was 7 years old when my mother moved us to Fl. If you can find this information out from any living relatives, and the older ones would remember the most information about the family's roots, then you will be able to find connections.

Michael & Margaret Singer were my great-great grandparents. Leonard Singer was my great-grandfather, my grandfather was Albert Singer (one of the sons of Leonard). I have just recently been researching my Singer past when I came across this message of yours. I too am trying to get information on Michael & Margaret Singer from Bavaria whose son is Leonard. Leonard would be my great-grandfather, my grandfather's name was Albert Singer who would have been a brother to Urban (your grandfather). I would love it if you could share any info you have on our Singer ancestory and the german background. I have very little right now.

The Singers in my family,a cousin of my grandmother, named Franz Singer, was going to Wisconsin in 1890 - 1900.He married in Wisconsin, but he had no children. This Singer - family was from Maxberg, Draxelmoos -(Maxov) in Bohemia and from Eschlkam in Bavaria - two villages next the border by Furth im Wald. Have you the place where your Singer is born?
The father from this Franz Singer was Alois Singer born 21. 9. 1847- he was farmer in Draxelmoos.
About Canada, I don't know.
I don't know, if other people from the Singer - family have gone to America.

I am doing an extensive genealogy search on descendants of Ethel (ettel) and Jacob (Jankel) Corbitoff (aka Korbubow, Korbuduv) who came from Kiev to Cleveland in the 1900s.
