Man Dies at Age of 103

Jacob A. Sipe, aged 103, oldest resident of Lawrence County and veteran of the Civil War, died Sunday morning, November 16 at his home at Fayette after a brief illness.

Despite his advanced age of over a century, Mr. Sipe had enjoyed fairly good health until a few days ago when he was taken suddenly ill.

He was born in Beaver County, going when a young man to the vicinity of Fayette where he had lived since that time. He served for three years in the Union Army during the Civil War, enlisting in this city with the Fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry of which Alexander P. Duncan was captain.

Mr. Sipe leaves four children, Mrs. Howard Christy of Blacktown, PA, Mrs. James Riggel of Kennerville, Mrs. George Powell of Erie, and Mrs. Clarity Surena of Clintonville and three sons, Frank of Erie, and John and Jess Sipe of Fayette. He also leaves thirty-two grand children and twenty great grand children.

Funeral services were held today at 2 o'clock from his residence. Burial was made in Fair Oaks Cemetery.
