My Dad is one of sara's four remaining living children. My Youngest daughter (25) is named after her. I just threw my Dad's 85th birthday party over the 4th of July weekend at which three of the siblings and several grandkids and greats were in attendance. Retta's son, Gene, was also in attendance. Who are you? The message I posted was quite a long time ago.

So you visited the grave at Klickitat?

You may email me at GoKnickerbocker @aol.com

New Email address? Notify Ancestry for an automatic update to all boards

Have you ever done a search by keyword through old posts on a message board and happily struck gold by finding names or dates related to your ancestors? You quickly send an email to that poster's listed address only to discover their "addy" has long changed. You then return to the message board and post a response, hoping that person will soon read the board. You wait.

And wait.

Perhaps your reply goes unnoticed. Someone else might know the person and alert them to your post. You may or may not ever connect.

When and if you change your email address, please let Rootsweb/Ancestry know so that they can update any message board posts you've made over the years. See the topic: MESSAGE BOARD POSTINGS at this link

http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/addresses/

An excerpt from that page:

"Changing your e-mail address is accomplished in one easy step for registered users. Click on the "'My Profile" link, which is accessible after logging in. Complete any changes in the "Change Profile" or "Change Password" boxes and click on "Submit." Your account information is changed universally on every post associated with this account/e-mail address.
Hi Jerry -

I hope Shari sees your message. Many people change their email addresses over time and don't remember to update their registered address with Rootsweb/Ancestry.com. see the topic: MESSAGE BOARD POSTINGS at this link

http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/addresses/

I clicked on Shari's name to access her email address and to see any and all message board posts she's made. I only found the one post. If she doesn't see your reply you might try emailing her directly. I hope that when she posted her query back in 2002 that she clicked on the box "Send Me An Email When Anyone Replies To This Message" so that your message will get to her whether or not she checks the Sixkiller board.

Jerry, why not post some of your SIXKILLER research here? No need to go off-board with it, as this forum can reach dozens of people over time. Please consider sharing names/dates/locations of your ancestors (be careful with info on living people!) right here on this board. It might connect you to other distant "cousins."

Be sure and put any surnames used in your post in the SURNAMES box so that anyone doing a general search at the link below will find and go right to your post:

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=advancedsearch&r=r...

Want to receive all SIXKILLER board posts by email?
Hi Rebekah,

Sorry to take over 2.5 years to reply! I gave up hope of hearing from anyone. YES, we are cousins. Buel Dean was my uncle. My father (YOUR uncle) is John Burton Campbell (adopted by Julia's sister Virginia). Wow. I heard Buel Dean passed away ... within the last year or ...? I'm very sorry. My father keeps in touch with Martha. Do you ever speak with her? I have not kept in touch with her. Shame on me...! In any event, I shall write MUCH more soon. I hope your email address is still correct. Thanks very much for answering me! Shari (in Southern California)

No, but I did an advanced Google search just now using keywords: Charity, Sixkiller and Isaac Roberts, and found a few links discussing Charity, wife of Isaac:

Someone has their names in their gedcom at WorldConnect:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi

and

http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ReubenROBERTS/1999-12/0...

and

http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CherokeeGene/2001-08/09...

I hope one of these researchers can lead you to more info about your line.

Gina, it has been several years since you posted your message about J.B. and Peggy SIXKILLER and I'm sure by now you've changed your email address and may not even see this.

For any other researchers, here's a link on Findagrave.com to J.B. Sixkiller's memorial page:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Si...;

That link too long? Then use the search engine at:

http://www.findagrave.com/

Patricia Mechling has submitted burial data on this SIXKILLER from the Chuculate Cemetery in Adair County. If anyone reading this has a photo of him, please consider adding it to the website there or as an attachment in an email to THIS BOARD.

Please folks, lets share our research.

Sandy
Sixkiller Board "Sitter"

Did you know a memorial page for Jennie Ross SIXKILLER is set up at Findagrave.com? ( The spelling is under JENNIE--not Jenny. )

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi

Oh, Alpha, would you PLEASE consider scanning and sharing your photo of Jenny Sixkiller HERE at this message board? I'm sure her other descendants would be thrilled to see what she looked like. And you could have it posted to her memorial page at Findagrave.com, too.

If you are not familiar with posting scanned documents or pictures to a message board, it is easy. First save your attachment (picture, marriage certificate, birth record, enrollment card, etc.) to "jpeg" format on your harddrive. Then go this message board, open up the "Post Message" link and at the bottom you'll see "Attachments: [Add]". Click on ADD and a window will open up allowing you to BROWSE to the location on your harddrive where you have the "jpeg" copy. It takes a minute or two to process, and then it is uploaded.

Anyone then reading this years from now will be able to view your attachment. I would be happy to help you.

Sandy
Sixkiller Board Administrator

Go to the top of this board and type in just "retta" (without the italics) in the box. Then after the GO button, click on Sixkiller Board. This will prevent a search of the name Retta for ALL message boards--but just narrow it do the SIXKILLER board.

Click on the links that pop up and meet some of your cousins!

Holler back if you have problems finding these messages,
Sandy

Sixkiller memorials online at FINDAGRAVE.com

There are over 65 Sixkillers who have brief memorial pages at Findagrave.com.

Search engine:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?

or the front page:

http://www.findagrave.com/

If you don't know about this site, it is one of the top five most popular genealogy search sites for researchers looking for their "missing" ancestors. If you find someone's interment record whom you know a lot about but there isn't much biographical data posted on him/her, please consider contacting the person who first shared the deceased's burial info. They most likely will add your information to help honor the deceased and help other researchers.

Of if you have a photo of someone's tombstone, please upload it at Findagrave. Why? Although headstone info is sometimes incorrect, it does help show WHERE someone is buried and then other researchers will know WHAT COUNTY to further look for info on their ancestors.

Share your research and help keep genealogy free (or affordable!).

Sandy

There were over 1200 deputies who served in some capacity.

I found a Samuel SIXKILLER listed who apparently died in the line of duty on December 24, 1886.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rkinfolks/deputies....

If you have more info about this SIXKILLER, please share it here for all of us.

My GGG grandfather was John Bell Sixkiller of Stillwell, Ok. I think John Bell and Charlotte are half-brother and sister. They shared the same father Walter Sixkiller. Any info that anyone has on John Bell Sixkiller would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Redbird and James SIXKILLER

Where did you get your information about Jenny "Big Bee" (daughter of Redbird Sixkiller)? Jenny Bigby (b. ca.1803)was an older person than Redbird Sixkiller (b. ca. 1820).

In fact, her parents were James Bigby (1/4 Cherokee and nephew of Charles Renatus Hicks) and Catherine Foreman (1/2 blood) [Starr, p. 363]. Andrew Taylor and his brother David Taylor were white men who married Cherokee sisters Jenny and Mary Ann (Polly Ann) and each man obtained 640-acre tracts of land (called "reservations") in 1817 in right of their Indian wives.

I am a descendant of Andrew Taylor and Jennie Bigby; their daughter Elizabeth Taylor married William Covington Ghormley (white). In turn, their son Ewing Capers Ghormley married Ida Narcena Wetzel(a mixedblood Cherokee); their daughter Stella Maude Ghormley was my maternal grandmother. I am a registered citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and can document all of this lineage.

Redbird Sixkiller and his brothers were Civil War soldiers, serving in Company L, 3rd Indian Home Guards.

Carol is the daughter of Anna Liza (Rattlingourd)Grass. My maiden name is Grass and all my life I knew I had Cherokee blood in me and my ancestors came from Virgina,WV but walk the Trail of Tears. I would like to learn more of my ancestors and make the connection but have run into many brickwalls because of what was done to my ancestors. My father passed away in 1987 and his grandmother before his birth (she was full blood Cherokee, Mary Polly Fox) She married my grgrandfather James William Grass in 1865. My dads father passed when he was 5yrs and this was forbidden to speak of. You could tell he was 1/3 N/A black eyes, Dark skin, jet black hair, bone structure. I was blessed with the Irish but the heart of the N/A and belief's to go with it...Please help me so I can complete my journey...I just want to know where I come from and where my ancestors were..

Attached is a photo of Frog Sixkiller's tombstone at the Ross Mayes Cemetery outside of Salina, Oklahoma.

Birth: 1827
Death: 1891

He is buried next to Isaac SIXKILLER.
