Sorry for the delay in replying. We are building a home in Maine and I have been traveling a lot. I am waiting for information from Lappfjard Finland to find out who the mother was of my grandfather, Ulric Wilho Brandt (Sjöblom). His marriage cetificate from 1934 in NY says her name was Adeleine Werner. We always thought it was Adeline Sjuls. I'm still trying to tie in the Brandt name change. What information do you have on Ulric Leonard, his first wife, siblings, or where he was between 1905 and the 1920 census?

I don't know if this is any relation, but I have a great-aunt (Amanda Josefina Anderson) that married a John Albin Sjobom. I was wondering if the "l" was left out of the name and could be from this family. I have not had any luck finding either of these people under the name of Sjobom. Her daughter was Judith (Sjobom) Keavney. I know that Judith lived in Montana.

My husband's family, Sjoblom, came from Munsala and Nykarley, Finland also. Oscar Sjoblom changed to Shoblom when he became naturalized. A lot of this clan settled in Olympia, Washington and we're still attempting to find out how they are cousins...One cousin, Anna Sjoblom was a Titanic survivor in 1912. If you'd like to exchange names, dates, etc. let me know. I'm most interested.

My great grandfather's name was Peter Olaf Sjoblom. He immigrated from Sweden before the turn of the century. He settled in Iowa for awhile, then decided to move to South Dakota. I fear he is not the Peter you are searching for though, because he married a woman named Catherine Lindquist. They eventually ended up homesteading a claim about five miles form Ekalaka, MT in 1895.

I have an ancestor Eric Johan Tavon who was born in 1799 in Maahlahti, Vaasa, whose oldest son Johan Isak Sjoblom emigrated to Sweden in 1869. His daughter, Anna, born in 1872 emigrated to the United States to Utah and married Carl Elof Andersson who was born in Hamneda, Sweden in 1869. She also had a sister Olivia Sjoblom who emigrated and married a neighboring miner.
Anna Sjoblom Anderson never liked to speak English and was often lectured by her family to try to sound more American. She told several interesting stories: one, that Carl Elof's family owned a brewery on an island near Stockholm, and that a member of her Finnish family had been fathered by a Russian prince.
Thrilled to correspond with family a half a world away!
Linda Nygaard
To Barb Sjoblom re: your grandfather Theodore Sjoblom. Your names and places have much in common with my grandfather, John Jacob Sjoblom. He was born 14 Feb. 1879 in Finland. I do not know details of him migration. I am guessing he migrated around 1900. In his first years in the USA he lived in Wisconsin. He married Hanna Sofia Wicklund. Their first born son was named Theodore. Later they moved to Michigan (Ironwood, then Bessemer), finally settling in Duluth, Minnesota. If you think there is any connection I would be pleased to hear from you.

my father is George Sjoblom, son of Adolph Sjoblom and Lydia Jackson, they were from Teuva, Vaasa, Finland. Adolph and his brothers came to American and settled in Ironbelt Michigan, then on to MN. They had 16 children, 4 sets of twins. I don't know if we are related, I have the family geneaolgy done by my cousin back to the late 1700's. If I find your info in the book, I will reply.
Sjoblom on Titanic

This may have already come up in earlier postings, but just in case it might help a genealogist find a link, I will tell you what I found.
My father, Willard E. Spencer was born in 1919 and grew up in Olympia, Washington (Thurston County) living near a Sjoblom family. I think by that time they may have changed the spelling to the Americanized version of Shoblom (Shoblem?), but I'm not sure. The Sjoblom boys were named Paul, Arvid and Ainer. I believe at least one is still living.

I tried to find the family's US immigration through the Ellis Island website and happened to come across a listing for a female Sjoblem (I think her name was Anna, but I'm not certain) that arrived on the ship Carpathia, and had originally sailed on the Titanic. Her destination in the manifest was listed as Olympia, Washington. Thinking this was pretty neat information, I sent a copy of the Carpathia's ship manifest to my dad - he called his friend in Olympia, and sure enough, this guy said he had an aunt whom family legend claimed had sailed on the Titanic.
Maybe this will help a Sjoblom along with their ancestry.
Sheila Spencer Lein
