CASS CO MO.....SKAGGS....HELP

H, leslie here. i am trying to break my elizabeth skaggs line and i do believe shes related to the skaggs in CASS CO MO. i find her in 1850 cass co mo and living with her are 2 other younger SKAGGS kids JOHN AND SUSAN which are not hers and she is living next door to ASEL AND ELIZABETH (SKAGGS)RHODES. i do know that elizabeth RHODES is daughter of JAMES SQUIRE SKAGGS. i do not think that my ELIZABETH is a dau of james, but im sure shes related some how. my elizabeth skaggs marr WILLAM H. WHITE (i have her line to curent she was my 2 great grandmother) BUT FAMILY LEGEND stated that she was left with relatives or neighbors by herself or with a few of the younger children while the parents went to a trip to visit other family, and that they died crossing some river some where. the parents were identified by a bible near their dead bodies. she must have been very young when this happened becuz, she didnt even know her real date of birth. and if she did know her parents name some how it was never written down or passed. so we know nothing.

we are stuck with speculation and doing research off that. doing it this way could and has taken YRS!! ive been trying to follow some of the MO skaggs and KY skaggs trying to find something out... but i need help, its going no where!! i am however getting pretty familiar with every other skaggs :)

what i need is....is anyone familiar with the river crossing deaths? does any one have a missing skaggs line that went to MO? maybe someone already knows about this elizabeth? what about the 2 younger skaggs kids that was with this elizabeth in 1850 cass co mo big creek twp?

please i really need some help here.
thanks in advance to any one that can help.
LESLIE
PS PLEASE RESPOND HERE, I WILL VISIT OFTEN!

I have seen many postings about many different connections between the Skaggs family and Mary Thear. Does anyone have anything more concrete? I am through William "Squire" Skaggs and I believe he was descended from Mary, but I'd like to know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You can go to Rootsweb do a mega search. Put in Ellen Robertson it is going to bring up several hits. On World Connect click on it then scroll down to the bottom and put in her spouse's name that will elimate most. You will find her there, with parents and children. Good Luck. If you have not used rootsweb it is FREE. You just have to register give a user name and password. It works with Ancestry.com but sometimes I have better luck there. Good Luck

Re: Early SKAGGS Records 1600s-1700s

I have a book "Skaggs in Kentucky" written by Juanita Lutteral. In it is the court hearings on the estate of Moses Skaggs. This Moses Skaggs never married he had brother and sisters that he divided his land too. This ended up being the reason for the long drawn out estate settlement in court. His brothers and sisters are Charles, Henry, Richard, Jacob, Nancy, Liddy, Susannah, Elizabeth. Also in another statement it names John as a brother. Since you have all ready read the documents you know how confusing they are. It also states that he came to Green Co. in 1790 - 1791. If the date 1790 is true then that is before James Sr. & Rachael Moredock Skaggs came to Green Co. KY.

You said your husband's descended from Charles Skaggs now this is James Sr. & Rachael's son? Now you find that his mother's family descends from Richard Skaggs. I have a large data base on the Skaggs family from Green Co. and I have tried to make sure I have checked records to know if I'm right or not. If you will send me the earliest names in the Skaggs family on your husband's father and mother's side I'll check through my data and see if I find anything that will help you.

My e-mail: bas1952@bellsouth.net. My plan is to get to Green Co. Archives this spring they have a good archives and I hope to find some unanswered questions.

Bev
I've recently traced my husband's line again to this Skaggs family. I had known for sometime that his father descended from Charles Skaggs, but now find that his mother descended from Richard Skaggs. (These are brothers mentioned in the Moses Skaggs courte case). Needless to say this has made me more interested in the family. (I had always been intrigued because the Longhunters are such interesting folks).

I have looked at multiple genealogies on the web. I am still confused. How certain is everyone that James and Rachel Skaggs are the parents of the longhunters? I have gone through the Moses Skaggs case. Perhaps I am missing him, but I don't see a brother James listed. When I see old documents regarding James Sr. many have a James Jr. I just wonder if James Sr. and James Jr. were a different family (despite the other names in common to the longhunter family on deeds) maybe even closely related. It bothers me that James Jr is not in my copy of the Moses case.

I'm just asking for clarification because I have only started looking at this and I am sure there are folks around here who have working on the Skaggs for years.
