June,
My name is Cathy.. My mother is Loretta and my father was Dannie Eugene Skeene. I believe that we are cousins. I didn't get to know too much about the skeene side of the family because mom and dad divorced when I was three. I finally got to meet your dad at a family reunion we had just before dad passed away..I would like to keep in touch and maybe get to know my fathers side of the family some more. I know Uncle Carl is in Williamsburg Ky and Mom is in Corbin KY. I am sorry about Uncle Bob..I only knew for such a short time, but that was enough time to know how good of a guy he was...I just thought you should know that there are still some Skeene's in Harlan County KY.....

Samuel and Jesse Holton were brothers. I have a good bit of information on both. Jesse is our direct line. Other researchers in our family have Samuel and Jesse as being the sons of Isaac Holton (b. about 1745) and Margaret Coleman (b. about 1755). I have been unable to find any confirmation of this. There is a land grant to an Isaac Holton on the Deep River at about the right time, but that's all I have found.

The same family members have additional siblings as Isaac Holton, Jr. m. Polly Blair and m. (2) Lydia Ozburn and Rachel Holton m. ? Brown, and possibly a John Holton.

Do you have any information on the parents of Martha and Keziah Lowe? I have their parents but have been unable to find anything further.

Thanks.

Lynne

Lynn...

I am researching the Lowes in Guilford, Randolph Counties, North Carolina who married Holtons..

We have Martha Lowe marrying Jesse Holton about 1816-1817 in one of these two counties. And a Samuel Holton who
married on Sept 12, 1810 Keziah Lowe (sister of Martha Lowe) in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Both Martha and Keziah were daughters of Samuel Lowe
and Tabitha Skeen.

I suspect that Jesse and Samuel were brothers.
Eliz Rebecca Skeen/William B. Carrick photos available free

Some years ago, I received copies of photos of William B. Carrick and Elizabeth Rebecca (Skeen) Carrick, and their family of nine children, from a generous researcher. They were originally from Davidson Co, NC, and later settled in Douglas Co, MO.

Just yesterday, a friend with more equipment and time than I have gave me a CD with those photos scanned and enhanced. He did a great job!

If you are related to this family, I would be glad to share the JPEG files via email. Just drop me a note at
leo and linda at provide.net (remove spaces and sub @ for 'at') and I will send them to you.

Please let me know how you are related to the family. Or how you might be, if you are not sure. There are a couple of the kid identifications that we are not clear on, and you may be able to help.

There are four photos. Let me know if you would prefer them all attached in one email, or if you would prefer them sent separately. Even as JPEGs, four attachments might be cloggingly slow for some systems to download.

Linda S

Hi, I just found this board and am looking through all of the listings. I have a 4th great grandfather named Jonathan Alexander Skeen b1730. I was wondering if he is related to your Robert, brother or something. I have a line of Skeen/Skene back to Robert the first Baron of Skene in Scotland, but have not verified any of them as family yet. Thanks for any help.

Yes, Elisha Skeen was bro/o John King Skeen. Both sons of James H. Skeen & Nancy Jane ?Mathew?. The parents died of cholera on the Oregon Trail.

James H. Skeen was s/o Jacob Skeen and Nancy Yardley.

James Craig Gilbreath, & his wife Sallie Tigard, adopted Elisha Skeen. (Orphan) John King Skeen was taken in by Wilson Tigard and his wife Polly Yoes.

Side NOTE: The Yoes family marr into the Skeen family at different levels.

From what I can tell from all of your posts, you are interested in their sister Martha L. (the youngest sibling)

OBIT:
THE KELSONIAN-Kelso WA Sat Feb 17, 1917 No59 page 1-
Mrs. Martha Gentis Passes. Mrs. Martha Gentis, mother of Roy Gentis, passed away at their home, early Thursday morning aged 66 years, 11 months and 9 days. She had been in feeble health for some time. Martha Skeen was born at Little Rock, Arkansas, March 9th, 1850, and came west with her parents when she was two years of age, and has lived on the Pacific Coast practically all her life. During her youth, she lived in the Willamette Valley, and was married to L. Gentis in Vancouver in January, 1873. Her husband preceded her to the Great Beyond a little more than a year, having passed away in December, 1915. Mrs. Genti had made her home in Kelso much of the time for a good many years, and her passing is sincerely mourned by a large number of friends. She leaves to mourn her two sons; Roy of this place, and Lee of Tacoma, and a number of grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the family residence this after noon at 2 o'clock by Rev. D.G.Delano. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Please contact me,
Debra Anderson

Sharon,
I have posted several responses to your queries (on the various boards) today.

From what I can tell... your Skeens are from 'my' family branch (descendants of the elder Jacob Skeen & Nancy Yardley). I can also tell you that Tom Skeen (original query) is a DNA match to a Skeen who is also 'of' my branch. (Hello Tom).

I have not looked at all of your posts, but thought to add that Tom's Jefferson CO TN (John Skeen) clan are somehow connected to our Skeens of KY>AR>OR/CA.
