Classification: Query
Surnames: Skelton, Yound, Lewis
I married into a Skelton family, and my grandmother was a Skelton. On my grandmother's side, her father (George Glen, b. 1876)one of 11 children of Thomas William (born 2-10-1852, died 4-23-1899 and Jenny Ray Skelton (born 4-12-1852, died 1-16-1907.
That is as far back as I know.
On the other side, I have information going back to 1610, but I'm new to this, so I'm not sure how to read some of it. But can basically trace back to John Skelton, Sr. of Mecklenburg Co. Va. and follow them through SC in the 1775's to Georgia and Alabama in the 1790's to children of Solomon Skelton (married Mary?) Robert B, Dozier and William Hiram. Dozier is my husbands ancestor. William married Mary (Polly) Yound and moved to Tenn. and then to Ark.They had 10 children, Charles Frank 1830, John 1831, Elizabeth 1832, William 1835, James David, 1837, Millie 1839, Wiley 1841, Hiram Dozier 1843, Nancy P. 1847 and Sarah 1849.
Charles Frank had 6 children, the youngest Thomas W. Skelton 1859, married to Sara Ida Lewis. I am trying to find a connection between these two families. I would be happy to send copies of what I have to anyone interested.
