According to a Skerrett Family History located in the Pennsylvania Historical Society in Philadelphia, PA, USA, James Skerrett married Rebecca Humbert in 1752 in New Jersey. They were married in a Quaker ceremony. Jamies had four sons: Joseph, James, James, William and, I believe, Henry. Joseph was a silver smith and a Captain in the PA Militia furing the Revolution. He and other members of the family are burried in Christ Church cemetary in Philadelphia, not all that far away from Ben Franklin's grave.
One of Joseph's sons was David, one of the first MD's graduated fby the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. David went on to become Prothonatory of Philadelphia. He was also a Mason and founder of the Skerrett Lodge in Pennsylvania.
There are quite a few Skerretts still in the Philadelphia area, many with two middle initials (I'm not one of them, but my father was -- Henry Nagel Green Skerrett). Interestingly, my mother's maiden name was Donlon (Donnellen). According to my research, both oridinally hailed from Galway. Kid of a roundabout way to get together.
