Hi David:
Glad to hear from you. I remember reading somewhere that the Skerrett name was the anglosized version of the Huscared name which is from the Normans; I need to find my mother's papers, she was a newspaper reporter in Puerto Rico and when she died I inherited her paperwork and put it away in the attic. Please be patient with me. When I was a girl of 10 and living in Puerto Rico, I remember a man came to my grandmother's house and told us that his name was Charles Skerret and had just arrived from England, can't remember his wife name and his daughter's name, I think, is Elizabeth. The last I heard they were living in New Jersey, United States. This wa probably about more than 40 years ago so I don't know what happened to him and his family. One paper I found from my mother was a newspaper article from July 21, 1984 from Galway where my mother was staying for 3 months for the reunion of the Tribes and she was representing the Skerrets from Puerto Rico. It says in the article that Archbishop Mark Skerrett held the See of Tuam from 1749 to 1784. "In 1580, another Skerrett, Nicholas (a Franciscan), had succeeded Christopher Bodkin (1555) as Archbishop. There is also an Elizabeth Skerrett living in Manhattan, New York who works in the Public Library, she was in Galway with my mother during the reunion, unfortunately, we were never able to see each other, I also live in New York, in Long Islan. I hope that this small bit of information helps and, again, as soon as I can gather all the papers from my mother I will pass the info back to you. Sorry this message is too long. Take care.
