SKIBBEs of Vitrese, Kries Lauenberg, Pommern/Chicago, Cook County, Illinois

I am working on my SKIBBE family tree. It appears that my gg grandmother's sisters, Auguste and Therese, were born in "Vitrese, Kries Lauenberg, Pommern" (according to their Chicago church marriage records). They moved to Chicago with their parents, Auguste and Julius G. SKIBBE and sisters, Marie, Bertha, Mathilde, Minna and Lina. Auguste SKIBBE married Theodor J. FISCHER. When she died, Theodor married her sister, Marie "Mary" (my gg grandmother). Therese married Conrad BECHSTEIN/BECKSTEIN . Does anyone have any additonal information that might assist me with my research? I thank you in advance for your help.

I wish I knew...any little clue would help. These were people interested in getting on with their lives and seeking a future for their families. Unfortunately, along the way the details of their family histories were lost and forgotten.

My husband, Arthur Carl Fischer's, mother was Hulda Emma Skibbe born in Chicago in the 1890's. She married John Ludwig Fischer. Her parents were Theodore Skibbe and Hulda Emma Jeske, both born in Prussia (Germany) Theodore Skibbe was the son of Johann and Caroline Skibbe. They all came from Germany in the mid 1860's. Theodore stated that he had been naturalized. Where in Germany did the Skibbes come from?

William (Wilhelm Henrich Carl) Spenner

Excerpt from "The Spenner Family History 1824-1997" by Ruth Hankey [Oct 1997]

William (Wilhelm Henrich Carl) Spenner was born in West Prussia, Germany, near the Russian border. He received his education at the Lutheran School in Germany. A blacksmith by trade, he was hired by a group of farmers (known as a burg) often being paid with farm produce for his labor.

William was 5'10" tall, weighed 150 pounds and had red hair which turned totally white by age 50. He was a very religious man as well as very stern.

At age 27, he married Eva (Eva) Hoppe on October 24, 1851. She was born January 25th, 1828 in West Prussia, Germany. She was 24 years old when they married.

He and Eve had nine children -- three (Julius William, William and Fred) whom died very young.

In 1884, William, Eve, Rose, Louise and Gustave left Germany to join their other three children who had emigrated to America in 1882. Their trip from Hamburg, Germany, took 14 days and they landed in New York in the month of June. They then traveled by train to North Judson, Indiana, where William bought 40 acres in Wayne Township, Section 3. In later years this Starke County farm property was sold to their son, August.

William's industry and business ability made him a respected farmer in the county. He died in the farm home at the age of 90 years, three days. His wife, Eve, died one day later, (02/16/14) at age 86. They both had pneumonia. They were buried February 20, 1914, in a double funeral at the Lutheran Church in North Judson, by Rev. William Heine. Internment is at Pioneer Cemetery, North Judson.

Birthdate 02/11/1824 vs. 02/12/1824 in dispute

Memorandum exists, Author Unknown written 07/07/1938 - (format: handwritten on Intl Agricultural Corporation Letterhead) to be posted on website at a later date.

SKIBBE - Wisconsin

My gr-grandmother's sister Anna Schubert married a Frank Skibbe near Stetsonville, Taylor County Wisconsin. I know they had (at least) 3 children; Herbert b-july 1900, Frank b-july 1902 and Lucy b-july 1905. I believe that Anna Skibbe still lived in Stetsonville during the 1940s. My gr-grandmother Ida Judas lived with Anna for a while before she died. Wish to contact Skibbe descendants to validate family files and meet new cousins.

I believe We may be Related. My grandfathers name was Theodore Skibbe. He married my grandmother who was from Ireland Mary Theresa Lonergan. My father's name was Dudley George Skibbe, My aunt was named Theodora Skibbe. Apparently my grandmother and Theodore Skibbe split up because my granmother remarried a man named Hannan. My Father started to use that name rather than be thought of as a bastard child. My aunt however never used the name HANNAN. Theodore Skibbe had my Aunt Theodora in 1908 and my father Dudley George in 1912. Please contact us at the above E-mail address or at Kevin.michael@att.net. My father and Aunt were both born in NYC. From what I can gather it is a German name most likely Prussian. Which may explain why my father married a full blooded german also.

Kevin

Grandmother was Henrietta Skibbe who married Arthur Vandenplas. They lived in Chicago, IL. She has four sister's; Bertha, Martha, Lillian and Caroline. My mother always talked of visiting her relatives in Kansas but never did so during my childhood. We probably are related - any info please mail me ASAP.
