Sorry, I can not help you. My maternal ancestry is the Skidmore Family of
Thomas, Sr (1605-1684) to Violet Helen of 1911-c. 1999. If I may suggest;
show the dates of Harry Skidmore's birth; marriage and death and you may
receive more results. rema

Hi- I am researching my husband's great grandfather for him.
His name was Harry Skidmore. He was from England, he was in the British Army, and he died in the Anglo-Afghan war (this would be around 1919). I think he may have been an only child. His daughter's name was Marjorie. I know for a fact that his mother was still alive in England when he died.
Does anyone have any idea about him?
Would be thrilled if anyone had any idea at all..

Hi, I saw your old post about Patience Skidmore's parents, and wondered if you ever found the answer. The will of Thomas Oakley, dated in 1757, lists his father-in-law as John Skidmore. You probably have that, but if not, I can send it to you.

I have finally managed to contact Linda as Lois here on ancestry had her latest email address.

Linda is currently working on a second edition of the book. However, if you send her a cheque (payable to Linda Moffat) for 30 pounds sterling (incl. UK post & packaging) at: Mrs Linda Moffatt, Yellow Lodge, Barton Stacey, WINCHESTER, SO21 3RS, England, she can send you a copy of the first edition.

Rgds,

Erica

Hi

This book is VERY hard to get hold of.

I was in Dudley a couple of weeks ago and tried the Black Country Museum, the Black Country Bugle and Dudley Central library. There are several mentions on the internet that Dudley Library has the book but they had no record of it and they even tried the British Library for me. Also, it would appear that Peter Skidmore who wrote the post above died suddenly in 2004? As several of us have tried to contact Linda Moffatt and had no reply, I am wondering if something had happened to her?

Now, I have generated a search through booklovers.com to see if I buy a second hand copy. The Black Country Bugle also suggested writing a letter for their readers' page.

Can anyone anywhere help me?

Regards,

Erica

Tina, I am a descendent of Levi Skidmore and Nancy Raikes and have much information on the family. There were two Levi Skidmores in Webster County living in close proximity, so this Levi sometimes added a Jr. to his name although he was the son of John Skidmore, not Levi. This was done to alleviate confusion, but created confusion for researchers. Levi died on 11 September 1910 in Addison (Webster Springs) and is buried in the Skidmore Cemetery down Elk along with many members of his family.
Nancy's mother died in Upshur County on 25 August 1894. She was the daughter of William and Edith Woody. Nancy's father died in Lewis County on October 21, 1892. He is believed to be the son of William Rakes of Buckingham County, but there is no direct evidence for this.

My husband's grandfather had been married to a Ellen Myers. She had two daughters. These could be hers. His name was William Henry Skidmore. They were Living in Glenco Township Payne, County, Oklahoma in 1900. He married a Willis in Missouri. The family remembers the two girls but I don't know what happened to them. I don't think he had children by Ellen. I have one son and one daughter by Effie Willis and two sons and a daughter by his last wife Bertha Courtney. Any information on Ellen Myers would be appreciated

[Ours was nee Darby] and having a son Isaac. My great-grandfather Isaac migrated to Western Australia in 1886 and had five children. Thanks for the reply.

There were two Nelson SKIDMOREs born in Harlan County, KY, in the mid-19th century. One was the Nelson SKIDMORE who was a child in the household of Abraham and Margaret (Farmer) SKIDMORE in the 1860 census as age 6/12. The other was the Nelson SKIDMORE born Sep 1863 who was the son of John SKIDMORE, Jr., and Cameliza "Cammie" OSBORNE. He is the one who I have married to Emily LEDFORD.

In the 1870 Harlan County census, there is only one Nelson SKIDMORE (son of John and Cammie), and the Nelson SKIDMORE, son of Abraham and Margaret, is not in the family household and most likely died, although I do not have a death date for him.

Abraham and Margaret (Farmer) SKIDMORE are my 3rd great grandparents.

Frances Skidmore b.1851 in Iowa

Has anyone researched Frances Skidmore, youngest daughter of Lorenzo Dow Skidmore b.1809 in Indiana and Nancy Wade b.1814 in Kentucky? The only record I can find is the 1860 census for Parker County Texas with her listed as "F" Skidmore. I've just found some old family records which indicate my gggrandfather had a first wife named Elizabeth Skidmore and wonder if Frances and Elizabeth are one and the same person. My gggrandfather's second wife was Sarah Ellen Harmon b.1873 in Iowa, oldest daughter of James Harmon b.1830 in Illinois and Mary B. Skidmore b.1833 in Illinois. Mary B and Frances were sisters; 2nd wife is 1st wife's niece, IF my theory is right. ANY help is appreciated.

Re: Skidmore: children of grandfather William, grandmother Sarah Goldsby

Hello,
What a shock to see a posted request that mentioned my grandfather (Maurice) and grandmother Sarah. Your father, James, was the youngest brother of five children. Our Aunt May died some years back. The boys, Roy, Carl (my father), and Paul are also gone. The only one left of that generation is Paul's wife, Aunt Ethyl. She is still living in Columbus, Ohio, with her son, Bill. She and Paul had five boys, who are scattered around the country. I have limited contact with one of the cousins living in Utah. I have always wondered about the family's roots and what happened to Jimmy, who went off to California. My father was born in Charleston, WV, but the county courthouse burned down along with the records. Sarah was born in Natural Bridge, VA, and maybe there is some way to find out more about her and her family. I hope you receive this and respond. How cool is this!
Susan John nee Skidmore

Sherry, I was married to Elmer M. Skidmore and he was a first cousin to James Clark Sharp who was your husband's father. I remember Annie Skidmore Sharp and her family. I have some old pictures that you might be interested in. Where do you live?? Also, what do you know about Marilyn Sharp who would be your husband's mother? I remember there were 4 children in that family. Which one is your husband? I see that your inquiry was posted 8 years ago and if you are still interested, please let me know. My email is mskidmore@cebridge.net. Margaret Skidmore
George Skidmore immigrated to the US sometime around 1856-1859 and settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Not sure about the rest of the family.

Betsy, Edward Higby is the first Higby to come to America, to CT in 1630. A book was written about the Higbys, around 1920, but it has errors. It's good to have tho, it's a start. There is a mountain in Middletown, CT, named for Edward, Mount Higby....or Higby Mountain. I have photographed the nearby cemetery which has some Higbys, also the sign for Higby Road. Do you know the Harrells in Pennsylvania? Rhonda is descended from William too. I actually have a photograph of William, that I got from my mother's cousin, Estelle Corder, in TX. He is one ugly dude, I'm afraid. Looks rather mean too. She also gave me a photo of Adah Belle at age 15, I believe. One of Belle's 13 kids was a photographer, but the photos went when the house burned down. You can email me at norma888@earthlink.net if you want copies of the photos. I haven't yet put Adah Belle or William into the computer, but I do have a scanner. Have you just begun doing genealogy? I have a son living in Fairfield, where Edward and Jedidah owned land, so I went to the historical society there and copied lots of info. I still want to order books from the CT library. Since I started my research my mother has died and I've moved to a different state. I hope to be thru with the last of the moving-in this year and get back to my research. I did join the genie club here (in Vegas).
