I'm not connected to this family so I'm just looking at Ancestry records. You may have seen and already rejected this. There is a Henry in 1900 in Chester County.

Henry Skinner 56
Lydia 48
Price 26
John 24
Martha 22

The writing is a little difficult to read and the index lists him as 50. I thought perhaps Lydia was a 2nd wife, but the record states that they had been married for 30 years. It states that "Lydia" had 7 children and 6 are living. What's most interesting is that they have a son named Price (26). There is a WW1 draft record for Price Alesander Skinner. There is also a Charles Skinner on the census page next to Henry & "Lydia."

Hope this is helpful.

Chauncey SKINNER - Indian descent.

I have been told that our Skinner ancestry included Indian blood, and I do have some of those physical features belonging to Indians.

My ggrandfather was Chauncey Skinner, lived in IN, born in OH, parents from PA. I am having a hard time tracking him.

Sioux were the Indians in the Indiana region. - Miami indians, so I am not sure about the Cherokee part.

Living in Tippecanoe county at the same time as Chauncey were Sarah E. Skinner (Chauncey's wife), Ross Skinner (their son), Cornelius Skinner (?), and Catharine Skinner(?). I am not sure how all this fits together.

Anyone know how to find out?
thanks,

Skinners of Chester/Hardeman Co Tenn

Looking for information of Henry Clay Skinner born April 11, 1843 Hardeman TN who married Rebecca Jane Richardson born June 18, 1848 Montgomery,NC. I have a large photo of them in the original frame. What I am looking for is the parents of Henry. Speculation has been John Skinner who had married a Deaton his 2nd marriage. No proof as of yet. I have noticed a pattern that a John Skinner who married a Sarah Arnold that their children were living with relatives in 1850. I would assume that this couple have deceased at some point prior to 1850, and through reading posts and LDS they assume John is his father. But where is the proof and who is the mother? I do know Henry was living with Whitson Stewart family in 1850 McNairy Co TN census and in 1860 was in Tippah MS living with James and Mary Duncan. From 1861 to 1865 he was in the civil war noted from his records in Miss. In 1870 census of Hardeman County he is with his wife Rebecca and children: Bence, John, In 1880 he is listed with Rebecca and children Bence, John Emma and Alex. A 5th child is missing who is my line Docia Ann born 1873 in Medon, Chester Co. Don't know where she was during this census. The Tennesse Census 1810-1891 show him in Chester County in 1891. In 1900 he is missing from the census. Cannot find him or Rebecca. Henry remarried in 1903 after the death of Rebecca in 1902. His 2nd wife was Ada Hearne a widow. Two more children were born Ela J and Luther Taft. Then Henry died 1911. This is my time line and if anyone knows who his parents are I would so much appreciate finding it.

I'm sorry I really don't have any other info. as I am not related. Ina Hooks was my step-grandmother and we went to her house when I was a child. She died several years ago (about 20 or so I think). I can remember her father Ishmael Skinner living with the Hooks on the Rosebud farm. He was very old - in his 90s - and he lived in a room upstairs. He would get out every day and walk a mile down the road though - very active.

I have two half-brothers who would be related to you but they are not really interested too much in genealogy.

Ella was my grandmother, I remember Aunt Ina so well... I loved going to her house! My father was Curtis Elroy Skinner (deceased). I did know her last name was Lancaster, but the only first name I knew was 'Ella' which must be a nickname and not the legal name. I kept running into a dead end with the first name. My mother can only remember that 'Ella's' mother was called 'Tiny' but again no legal name.... Do you have any other information --- how are you connected with this branch of Skinner's?

I just now noticed that you didn't respond to my last message. Clearview, the community where Ernest and Mary had a variety store, is on a "mountain" you might say. The hill is possible about 1000 or 1500 feet high, so not exactly a "mountain" but people might say that.

If you have a map you can look for the town of Snohomish, and Clearview is just about 2 or 4 miles south of that.

Hello Geoffery,

What I am looking for is to go back as far as I can with my Skinner ancestry in England. My wife and I came over to England in 2008 and found the graves of my great, great grandfather and grandmother in Bethersden, near Ashford. He and his wives Sarah and Mary are buried in the church-yard surrounding St Margaret's Church. The headstones and footstones can be fournd Northeast of the church (hard to read the names), however they are there. We also went to Brightling, but were unable to find any headstones at the St Thomas a Becket Church. There are a lot of Skinner headstones surrounding the Church as you probably know.

We did meet an elderly lady in Bethersden whose maiden name was Skinner. However she did not have a good knowledge of her genealogy. Thanks for looking me up. If any of these names connect with names in your ancestry that would be great. I have a lot of information on siblings of John Skinner which might be helpful as we see if there is a connection. Several Skinners in that time period went to Australia.

Good to hear from you. Alan Moeller

My William Skinner was married to a Louise Foster. We believe this may have been a second marriage based on their age difference. Not sure who he was married to first. Our William H. was born approx. 1819 in NY and died 1914. Louise was born in 1840 also from NY. I did find an article,"The History of Outagamie", that said William and Louise Foster Skinner were from Freedom, Ohio. Maybe they settled there for a few years. William was found on the 1860, Winnebago Cty. with his father, Jerimias Skinner and mother, Anna Jeanette Terwiliger. Father died in Oshkosh. Does any of this tie in with your William?
Kathy

I have an Alfred Skinner having two brothers, Edwin/Edward) and L. D. Skinner in my research. I believe this line of Skinners (Edwin and L. D.) moved from the east coast to Tx and eventually CA. The Nathaniel Henry Skinner line is shown to have begun in Virginia, but other sources said that the line came from Kingsboro England. Please if anyone has any more information, please let me know. Nathaniel Henry "Nathan" Skinner was born in 1822/1823 - March 2, 1891, married Sarah Jane Elizabeth "Sallie" Whelchel May 22, 1837/b - Feb 10, 1900.

I am trying to track Alfred Skinner's parents. I came across his brothers - Edwin and L. D. Skinner who apparently headed out west in the 1800s. Alfred was born in 1790s - 1800s. Edwin & L. D. should've been born around that time and I was told that one of them stayed in TX area and the other headed to CA. Unsure of anything else besides that. If you find anything about their parents, please let me know.
Thanks,
Tammy

According to an article in the Skidmore, Missouri, Journal, he was swimming across the White Cloud Creek to get a steer and was drowned. Price Funeral Home Records in Maryville, MO, show his wife, Blanche M. Skinner, died on 18 May 1918 at the age of 50, but there is no death certificate for her in the Missouri Death Certificates database under her name. Blanche's mother, Nannie Mounts, born in Pa., was living with her and the children in 1910. Surviving Blanche in 1918 were her sons Dale, Chester, Clifford, and Paul.

July 9, 1902: "C.C. Skinner, who was in the employ of Hal Hooker, on his farm southwest of Maryville . . . started to swim across White Cloud River . . . to look for cattle. His body was not found until the next day. He was aged about 42 years." From "Life and Death in Nodaway County, Missouri" compiled by Janet Hawley, 1992, p. 231.
