I've just begun researching my family tree. In my research I'm finding many of my ancestors are connected to your family tree. I guess I'm just curious at this point as to who some of my distant relatives may be. My grandmother, Mildred Alice Gance is where I believe our connection began. I find all of this facinating and would like to know how we're connected, if you have the time.

Thanks,
Dana

Simon or Andrew Skogland of Linde, Sweden?

Seeking information on the family of my G-Grandma Wilhelmina Skogland, b: 05 May 1871 in Linde, Sweden (married Charles A. Lindgren). Her parents were Andrew and Maria Skogland, who remained in Sweden. Oral history says that Andrew was the disowned son of a wealthy man. Other children of Andrew and Maria were: Simon (married Anna), Sabina, and Sophia (married Andrew Gustave Anderson). These all came to America, and lived in Saunders Co., NE for at least part of their lives. Oral history indicates that there were other children who remained in Sweden.

Some additional information here:

Johan Hindersson Ek is according to the record collection "swedish population 1890" named Johan Henriksson Ek, born 1932 in Nordmark, Varmland, Sweden and mother Stina Kajsa Henriksdotter, born 1929 in Brattfors, Varmland, Sweden. at the time of 1890, they were living alone in Yngshyttan, Farnebo, Varmland, so there were no records of children that stayed with the family. either have all emigrated or made their own families by then, as they were abt 30 years old or so.

I have no idea if these records are connected, but tat this time, an Karl Johan Ek, born 1864 in Farnebo has a family. it could be Anna Skoglunds brother who stayed with his family, but I haven't been able to verify that yet.

Thanks so much for the information. I did NOT know "Persberg". Where did you find this? I knew she came in 1882 but not the month and day, etc.

I originally posted in 2004 with this and since, foundthat Anna did NOT marry a Skoglund but married a Haggeman instead. My grandmother always referred to an "Auntie Skoglund" in Michigan so I figured it was Ana. I found Ana in Chicago and then in Spokane, Washington. She died young just like her sister (my great grandmother).

So now I'm wondering if "Auntie Skoglund" was her Aunt Berthal and was widowed young and possibly re-married a Skoglund and went to Michigan. I have a photo of her with her new husband.

Anyone know of a Bertha _____ Ek Skoglund? She had a daughter Agnes.

Thanks again for your help!

Jo
She emigrated 1882-04-26 from Sweden, so she should arrive in US within a month from that. Her Father was Johan Hindersson Ek and Mother Stina Kajsa Henriksdotter. She was single and travelled alone according to this record. Now I hope you could find more information about her in the US records.

Looking for ANYONE who might have information on Nina Alvera Skoglund. She was born November 2, 1912 in Nebraska and died June 21, 1996 in California. She was the daughter of Eli Skoglund (born 1889 in Nebraska) and Ester Sandquist (born 1892 in Nebraska). Both of Eli's parets were born in Sweden...Ester's father was born in Sweden. Nina Alvera Skoglund was married to a Barnes (possibly named M. Tunis Barnes). This Barnes was my grandfather's brother. I spoke with Aunt Nina once before she passed away, but haven't been able to find further information on her or her husband. Any help would be appreciated.

Hilda Skoglund

My great grandmother, Hilda Skoglund, was born in February 1873 in Sweden. She came to the U.S. in 1892 and married Alfred Nylund the same year. I am looking for her exact birth date and birthplace. I haven't found the exact date and place of the wedding, but it was apparently in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Alfred Nylund was actually born Alfred Anders Johansson Svarvar on 19 December 1869 in Kvevlax, Russia (now Finland). He came to the U.S. in 1889. Alfred and Hilda settled in Crystal Falls, Michigan, where he operated the largest bakery in that city. Hilda died 13 May 1912 and Alfred died 8 June 1924. They are both buried in the Evergreen Memorial Cemtery in Crystal Falls. They had eight children, Oscar Alfred (1894-1936), Annie (1895-1917), Hilma (1896-1951), George (1897-1927), Robert (1900-1957), Carl (1901-1903), Clara (1904-1904), and Edward (1907-1927).
I'm trying to find family of Anna Skoglund. She was born October 1, 1861 in Farnebo, Varmland, Sweden and came to America around 1887-89. She was born Anna Lovisa Ek. She married a Skoglund but I don't know who. She is showing as a widow in the 1920 & 1930 census. They had daughter Margaret who was born around 1912. I believe they were around the Iron Mountain, Michigan area.

Hello everyone. I need genealogy/health records for the child and grandchild of Martin Earl Skoglund. All I know is he's from Massachusetts, was in the navy, has several sisters, lived in California in the 70's and later in Oregon. He's about 60-62 years old (in 2003). I have his SS# if we need to verify. We're not trying to make contact or disrupt anyone--we've plenty of family already; but we do need to know what the health tendencies are. Thank you!

info about our side of Skoglund family

Hello, Marie. My grandfather, Henrik Burger Skoglund was a Norwegian Sailor from Skien, Norway - - the same town as Edvard Grieg, the composer. He was born in 1889 and died in New York in 1973 or 74. He married Signe Peterson, a beautiful swedish girl from Brooklyn. My father, WILLARD, was born in 1920 and died in 1993. You asked about the meaning of Skoglund. I looked it up a while ago in a surname book in the library, and it means something like "a clearing in the woods", or something like "a small meadow". My dad had a brother, Howard, and two sisters, Beatrice and Anna, also Ruth, lost in the influenza of dyptheria epidemic in New York City in 1919, and Gordon, who died in 1945 of a motorcycle accident. Howard has one son, and I have one brother, neither of whom have any male children, so the Skoglund name will disappear with this generation. Actually, our surname should have been Samuelson. My great-grandparents eloped from Sweden before my grandfather was born, and they changed their last name to Skoglund. Hope this helps with your geneaology searches. My family has dispersed to the four winds, with some in Washington State, Boston, California, Texas, Louisiana and all over the Eastern Seaboard. None in Minnesota, though. Love to you, Dot Ferguson

Gene Skoglund Obituary

Sterling Journal Advocate - March 18, 2005
Sterling, Colorado

Gene Skoglund

Gene Skoglund, 87, of Fort Collins and formerly of Sterling, died March 16 in Fort Collins. A private family memorial service will be held in Westminster, and his ashes will be scattered in Beulah, where his four girls grew up, in accordance with his wishes. Mr. Skoglund was born in Minneapolis.

He contracted rheumatic fever as a teenager and was unable to serve in the military during World War II. He didn't feel it was right to profit while other young men fought, he contributed to the war effort by working on the railroad - which sparked his life-long love of anything to do with rails.

After the war, he went into the construction business. In 1957, he relocated his family to Beulah and started a construction business in Pueblo. He worked in construction along the Front Range until his retirement in the early 1980s. For several years, he and his wife Irene RV'd full-time until vision problems lead them to retire to Sterling. They moved recently from Sterling to Fort Collins.

Model railroading was Mr. Skoglund's passion. Although he worked on every scale at some time in his life, his preference was 7-inch narrow gauge. He ran a quarter mile of track on the Wisdom property on CR 31. He owned dozens of cars he had built from scratch, including doing all of his own foundry work. He wrote a small, self-published book about home railroad foundries.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene Skoglund, of Fort Collins; daughters Mai Wisdom and husband Victor, of Sterling, Penny Skoglund, of Tahlequah, Okla., Becky Munoz and husband Joe, of Westminster, and Linnea Skoglund, of Fort Collins; and grandsons Bryan Wisdom, of Sterling, and Mark Brown and wife LeeAnn, of Denver.

A Minnesota Skoglund (via Varmland)

I recently received my grandmother's baptismal certificate. (It's in Swedish so I can't read it.) Info on it:

Father: John Skoglund Mother: Annie Skoglund

The child baptized: Hildur Elvira Skoglund born April 14, 1902 in Cloquet, Carlton County, Minnesota.

Witnessed by Louis Erickson and Anna Erickson, Pastor Carl O. Sorenson

The parents John and Annie Skoglund immigrated from Varmland, Sweden. Originally John Skoglund and a raft of siblings were named Petterson. They took the name Skoglund (from a stepfather I believe).

Any related Skoglunds out there?
Hi, My great-grandmother was named Anna Skoglund. I'm not sure, but I had thought her maiden name was Erickson. She was married to my great-grandfather John Skoglund - they were both from varmland, Sweden and immigrated. I know that they were in Minnesota for a time, then moved to Idaho. Their daughter my, grandmother, was born in 1902. The time frame is off it seems. THough I can't be sure. In the case of my great-grandmother she pre-deceased my great-grandfather John Skoglund. So there probably isn't a connection.

Were there lots of Skoglund's in Varmeland, Sweden? There's probably no connection, but still I thought I'd reply.

I am looking for any information on a Lester Skoglund. He was married to Carol Hawkins who is my mothers aunt and they had a child named Marilyn. They lived in Ohio, New Jersey and Florida but I don't know dates. He was born around 1900 and Carol was born about 1902 in Missouri. In 1910 Carol and her family moved to the Cleveland Ohio area I think that is where she met Lester. Any help would be appreciated.
