The one in Washington. Slape is a very rare name over here in the Pacific Northwest! (I live in Oregon, on the coast). I was just in NW Arkansas for a family reunion (my dad's mom's side) - drove there through Kansas. I made it to Boone County where my grandfather was born. Beautiful area that part of AR and 5-6 Slapes in every phone book I picked up. I really enjoyed the trip, just wish I could have stayed around longer. Keep in touch!

Warmest regards,

Susan

Which Joe do you know? My Uncle Joe or the one in Washington? :) I'd love to get a look at the ledger myself but I don't get back to El Paso all that often.
I'm in Kansas for another month and then it's back to Ft. Worth and my kids.
Will send the scan when I find my copy.
Best,
Belinda

Hi Susan!
The page came from a ledger that my Uncle Joe found after Grandpa's death. I'm in the process of packing for a move back to TX but will see if I can find the page and scan it for you.
I've got something (somewhere) from Joe Slape in Washington that shows the connection to Thomas Slape. I'll see if I can find that as well.
Belinda
Hi cousin!

This piece is quite important. Do you have a scanned copy I could see? I am very interested in this information. How did you come upon it? So many researchers have tried to link William Floyd to a Thomas Slape that came over earlier. I have been working on this for years and could never reconcile this. You and I are related through both William Floyd/Mary Quillan (my great, great, great grandparents) and Andrew Jackson Riggins/Sarah Caroline Jones (my great-great grandparents)

Susan Slape-Hoysagk

This Bessie is a Slape by marriage I believe to be a fact. I was trying to find a burial site in Oklahoma of another ggrandparent. Bessie Slape in her latter years about 15 years ago identified the site but no marker was there. The TJ Slape, Samuel Green Slape and all the others are related if in Arkansas and Oklahoma. I traced them all 20 some years ago. Want to talk, I'll have to pull the file, give me a week and then call 936 873 2106
Best Regards
David

As for Martha, I have only a little more: born Dec 1833 in GA, died 1921-22 in OK and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Johnston Co., OK. The only thing I know about Nova's husband is his last name.
I am sorry, I know nothing of Thomas' family in England. I only know how he came to the US in 1738. When you listed your line, you listed George Washington Slape twice, a mistake, yes? As he is the son of Samuel Greenfield Slape, Sr. :-) I would love to find a way to trace our Thomas to a family in England. I have heard that the name is thought to originate in the Devon and Somerset counties in the UK.

To C. Thomas:
I am Mary Q. Slape Young's great granddaughter. My grandfather, Louis Edmond Young, was the second born of Mary and Eli Young.
Grandpa died very young, so he was not able to pass on information to his children, therefore, we of his line have never known much about the Slapes and Youngs. I have been so blessed to contact Joe Slape and quite a few other Slape cousins. I now regularly correspond with some of them and have even gone to visit one who lives near to me here in AZ.
I am anxious to learn more about the other Youngs.
Contact me at jimandlynsellers@aol.com
Lyn Young Sellers
Amanda and Stephanie, I am the 2nd of 4 daughters of L.C. Slape, brother of Don, Glenn, Miles,et.al., children of Greenfield and Hattie Mae (Moore). Dad died in Dallas in Nov. 1998. That leaves Uncle Harold as the last surviving son. We saw him and Aunt Ruth last year at a memorial service for Dad.(He's interred at Arlington, Tx Veteran's Cemetery). I'm in Dallas, my sister, Laura is in Bryan, Tx., sister, Paula in Las Vegas and oldest sister, Thena is in Fredricksburg, Va. Our Mom is Jacqueline (Newcomer) Slape, living in College Station, Tx. Is George Slape a brother to Greenfield? I'd love to hear from you. Mona

My maiden name is Slape. Paternal grandfather was Greenfield Slape-wife, Hattie Mae (Moore). Dad,L.C., 10th of 13 kids was born in 1924 in or around Duke, Ok. Soon after, the family moved to El Paso.We know that Greenfield was part of an extended family-maybe some cousins and/or unrelated children-who had come from Tenn., Ken., thru Ark. during the late 1800's. Rumor & family legend talks about "the children" running away from "the Mean Old Indian Woman".She was likely a second spouse, since the photos of G'field show a very European looking man without Indian features. Not sure if Greenfield was one of those children. The time frame seems that it's possible he was. Don't know anything about his siblings. Anything ring a bell with your Slapes? I'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Mona Slape Mason

Re: Slape line, Thomas of England

Thomas Slape was sentenced to transportation at the Quarter Sessions court in Somerset county, England. His transportation bond indicated he was sent to (or arrived in) Maryland in 1738.

I have never gotten around to writing to England for copies of the court records. Convicts were sent to the colonies for everything from vagrancy to bigamy, according to Peter Wilson Coldham *The Complete Book of Emigrants in Bondage, 1614-1775.* While Thomas Slape's crime is not listed in this book, the crimes of some other people in this index, pp. 726 and 727, are mostly stealing: sheets, clothing, sheep, a mare, shoes, a handkerchief, a silver cup. One person was exported for forgery and another for evasion of excise duty!

--Thena

I have in my files a John H. Slape, born 27 Apr 1892 in AR. He is the son of John Henry Slape and Sophronia Alameda Slape. John Henry (Sr.) was the son of Samuel Greenfield Slape and Martha Hoyt. The reason I think this is your John is on the 1930 census he is living in Jackson Co., OK age 36 with wife May age 29 and his 2 sons and 1 dau. Next door is S.G. Slape and wife Hettie May. This is Samuel Greenfield Slape and his wife Hettie May Moore and their children. Seems too coincidental that it would be another John H. instead of Samuel's little brother. Somewhere someone gave me the info that John H.'s wife was a Zelma Johnson. Could be wrong, could be he was married twice. I don't know. I don't have that John had a twin.I do have other sibs. :-) Susan
Slape-Hoysagk
The same Thomas whose son Thomas fought in the Rev. War and settled in TN? Did this James marry an Abigail and have 5 children?

Can you help?

We (my sister and I) are in search of any information that would be related to a William Starr Slape. My mother was adopted in Salt Lake City, Utah around 1949 when she was three years old. Her brother was 7 and they were adopted into seperate families. We have since been in contact with her birth mother, Grace and she has identified their father as William Starr Slape. Grace is now incapacitated in a rest home and a lot of the information we seek is not something she remembers - darn the luck. Was just wondering if anyone had run across a William Starr in their searches. We do know he was a medical student at Cornell University at one time, no dates though. This is about all we know. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
