Nancy Marie Slead is my husbands mother. Ed and Effie are his grandparents. Effie had indian heritage but we haven't been able to document it. We got a little further in the pedigree but come to a dead end. Nancy's birth certificate was burned in a house fire and she was born at home. So many dead ends to prove ancestry. Our goal has always been to prove the indian heritage.

They have to fit together somehow. Charles Lyman ends up in Colorado. I keep plugging away at researching the multiple Charles Sleades in southern Indiana--of which I am a descendant of one. Too many Charles Sleades to not be related somehow. I hope to figure this out. Keep me posted if you find something! I would love to solve this mystery!

"Sleade" also comes up as a Welsh word that refers to a sled used in the salt marshes. I am so glad to hear that someone else is working on this!

My great grandfather was Charles Lyman Sleade. He lived in Kentucky with his father Aaron Sleade and then they moved to Indiana. Sleade is an unusual name and some think it comes from Slade in England. My grandfather, Thomas Sleade worked on the railroad and he would look for Sleades in the phone books in towns and never found any. I think the Sleades fit together somehow too.

I cannot say with certainty that your John and Elizabeth/Betsy are or are not buried at the Ferry Street Cemetery. There is another cemetery in the vicinity of Ferry Street where several Slade's were buried, I think it was near the Odd Fellows original church. Which of William's sons was your John's grandfather? If you send me your email address I can send you the excel spreadsheet with the data from the Ferry Street Cemetery

Susan,
This cemetery is not a large one compared to today's standards and unless the link was directly related to the line we are researching, I don't necessarily have all of the Slade decendants. Can you give me the direct line for the John you are looking for to William? Also, if you can give me birth and death dates it may be helpful. There are several John Slade's buried there but not a Betsey. Not all of the stones were legible and it may be that his wife's stone was one of those.

For those who have not had the opportunity to visit this Slead (Slade) cemetery, you should know that it's location is often alternately described as in either Somerset or Swansea. These two towns border each other closely and when you visit the area, it can be hard to recognize which town you're in at any given moment. I'm sure it's not as confusing for the locals.

If anyone would like a complete stone transcription and lay-out of the cemetery (those legible in 2001), please contact me and I'd be happy to provide it. My family is originally from Kansas, before that Connecticut, I believe, and then Ohio or Illinois on the way to Kansas.

You have some of their names in your information. But it's not Allen Slead in Neosho Rapids, it was Frank Allen Slead (my dad), and should include the twins of Elijah and Elisha Abner.

My family is from Kansas. I believe they came from Ohio and before that Connecticut or New York. My mom has the information in Kansas, which I will get from her. She has confirmed research that a John Slead served in one of the state militias during the Revolutionary War.

I also found reference to Slead Manor in Brighouse, Yorkshire, England. England may have been the original home for the
Slead(e)s.

We also know we have some relatives in Arkansas and Missouri. Would you be interested in what information we have?

Joann

I would like to have the information. I know that we Slead/Sleades have to fit together somehow. There just aren't that many of us and Sleade is often recorded without the last e. I would like to belong to a manor house in England!

I am related to this family and have collected materials about them while they were in Arkansas. I also have questions for you as I have never seen the family listed with Henry before. Where was that cited? I have traced them back to Indiana. I would like more information about C.A.'s father. Thanks!

Mary Catherine Sleadd apparently graduated from Georgetown College in 1927 and is listed in the 1994 alumni directory as still living. However, I believe she has died since then. She married someone named Gaye L. McGlothlen and was listed as a Baptist pastor's wife (retired). Her address (as of 1994) was 228 Lauderdale Rd., Nashville TN 37205, phone number, 615-383-0981. That may be the residence of one of her children. I hope this information helps you out.

If you use USGENWEB.com, then the State Projects page, then the Washington page and click on Pierce County, there is a link to obituaries which lists Edgar, Effel, Lester and Chester. You can print an order form and send for the Obits.

I hope that you can find the information that you need there.
Father and mothers names etc.

I have a GEDCOM including my side of the Slead line if you are interested.

HI. I am also searching for a Slead. His name was either Ed or Edward I do not know a date of birth. He married an Effie M. Shepherd. Effie was born in New Albany, Kansas on Feb 1, 1885 but her family moved to Cleveland, Pawnee Co., Oklahoma sometime between 1892 & 1894. I cannot find any records for either of them does either name ring a bell with you? Thanks
