I have a short family tree that is typed but it is mainly of mom's side. I want to fill out the picture with the other half of my family!!

William Slayford was my uncle who came to Australia in the 1960s with his wife Hilda and daugter Christine.

William is now dead but lived in Noble Park Victoria where his wife still lives together with the daughter Christine
The slayford family originated in Birmingham England and my father was John Joseph Slayford who married Beatrice Carter ( both deceased).
Many of the family migrated to Australia as 10 pound poms and some live in the Rosedale area of Victoria

looking for Sleafords

I am looking for decendants of the brothers and sisters of Walter Sleaford. The information I have is that he left England and arrived in the US when he was 18. His father was William and I don't have his mothers name. I believe that there were either 6 or 8 children total in his family. They came from the area around Sleaford England. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm a descendant of the Birmingham lot of Slayfords. We've not found any connection to Sleaford within our family tree but I did hear that a William Slayford may have changed his name when he went to Oz as a convict in his 60s. If you are able to shed any light on this, as we can not find any supporting material, I would be really grateful.

I'm part of Slayford family and would be interested in any information you would be able to pass onto me regarding Slayford. Definate spelling in my family is Slayford - we have found no connection with Sleaford.

Hi, I know it's been a few years since you posted your mail - but, I've just started looking into our family tree. I live in England, and the only information I have to start with is from my Grandparents. The believe is that the family were originally from the North/Middle of England and that there was a name change to Slayford at some point.

Hello again Elizabeth ..

Spent Friday in Lincoln Archives looking at Wills and more with luck than judgement found Johns mother Ann Graves in the Will of Robert Graves as his daughter - viz my daughter Ann Sleaford wife of John Sleaford of Walcott.

I am currently away from home and on my return I will update my rootsweb file - linclinks and send you the detaoils of the Will. Current listing has wrong parents for Ann.

hi my father is John Sleaford
My Grandfather is Walter Sleaford
My Grandfather was born in walcott and was the son of Charles.
i spent many a happy hour in the village of Martin with me nan and grandad.
my nan lived at 108 high st Martin until she passed away last year age 99. she lived in the row of terraced houses just up the road from Pound road opposite terrts tat yard,
i have lived in Birmingham all my life, my dad moved here after the war.

i am robert sleaford, and my family are from walcott. my dad is called charles edward, and has brothers eric ron and alf. also a sister called nelly, who has now passed away. they were all born and lived down walcott fen and still live in the area. if i can help in any way with anything, please get in touch.

i am a sleaford from walcott. i am 26 now but left walcott about 9 years ago. my family still lives there however. my father (charles edward) was born and lived down walcott fen, and had brothers ron, alf and a sister nelly who moved to america.

hello winston, i have been chatting to a lady in nottinghamshire and one of her rellies is susanna knowles, she is trying to find a connection to the sleafords..her susanna was born about the same time as our susanna..her problem is that she is older than us and most of her family has passed on, she is regretting not asking earlier, but she is going to plod on regardless. this all happened by accident as i told her i was doing family stuff and i got her last name and it rang a bell...small world huh if she is related..

Trying to locate decendants of Joseph Sleaford living in Australia.
My grandfather, Robert Arthur was the eldest and have all info on him but would like to contact others. Rose Sleaford married a Dick Pacey, Ada Charlotte Sleaford married a William Harry Fletcher and Naomi married a Charles White. I do not know if Kate and Edward married, I think 'Ted' did.
I have located kin of Joseph and Vera Jane.

I have now added some 1851 Census Lincolnshire Sleaford ( the name not the place) to my Database. Now in touch with six other descendants but keen to fill in more gaps.

My Great Grandmother was a Sleaford and I have a couple of hundred of Sleafords in my tree, not all are my family but then again they could be as you may have the missing information to connect the family groups together.

Who was Robert Sleaford who settled in Michigan - does any one know. Do all the American Sleafords stem from Robert?

I know of one family that emigated to Australia but were there more? There were certainly two convicts transported - did they have families.

If you have any information, I would be delighted to consolidate the information.

I am not sure if I am related to the Sleafords in the family bible, but my husband's grandfather, Robert Sleaford, was born in Walcott, Lincolnshire in 1866, his parents are John Sleaford and Emma Jackson. I am finding it very difficult to trace both of these and I thought you might have been able to shed some light on them, having a copy of a family bible from Sleaford's form Walcott. Thank you for replying to my message. I'll continue to carry on looking for details of them.

Guess what I had for Christmas! A copy of the 1881 Census which has some Scothern Sleafords viz.

William Aged 40 born in Scothern
Wif Lucy aged 38 born in Houghton on the Hill
George William aged 5 born in Freiston
Charles aged 3 born in Scothern
Henry aged 1 born in Scothern
Sarah A. aged 2 months born in Scothern

Another Household has Sarah a Widow born in Walcot aged 74.

Some more entries bornin Scothern but now living elsewhere
are Joseph aged 29 living in Lincoln with wife Anna and child Edith.

Thomas aged 27 living as a boarder in a household in Lincoln.

I believe there was a name change when William went to Oz. Although the Birmingham lot are spelt Slayford. (possibly due to Slayford Gate or slaeford Bridge..

The only Sleaford I can find in Scothern is John, born 9.4.1830 son of Joseph and Sarah. Joseph

The name Shaney, Shane is very strange - I have not come across this Forename at all. This Forename has been used in recent times, but rather like many modern names it has been copied from the made up name of a Film Actress/Actor

In my Wilson/Willson line I have found many strange first names and have later found that the wifes maiden name has been used as a Forename in another generation. I wonder if this has happened here?

I have now posted all my information on RootWeb.Com and will update as I get new information.

I have now posted the information I have on my family and other Sleafords on to the RootsWeb site.

I share ancestry with another contributor Elizabeth Sleaford whose husband is the descendant of Robert, son of John Sleaford and Emma Jackson. My Great Grandmother - Mary Ann was John and Emmas' daughter. I have yet to make the breakthrough to connect Johns father - another John back to the other Sleaford families I have found.

Incidently, earlier spellings of the name have included Slyford, Sleeford, Sleforde and other variations. I have found 13 Sleaford families in Yellow Pages in the Walcot, Billinghay, Martin area and I am plucking up courage to write to them to see if they have any information.

Currently have a broken right arm so wont be adding much to my tree for awhile. HOWEVER, I would love to have any information you have - this family fascinates me.

I am great grand daughter of Mary Ann Sleaford - daughter of John and Emma,whose other children where James and Elizabeth. I suspect that John was married previously to a Mary (surname unknown). All of my forbears come from the Walcot, Timberlake,Billinghay and Martin vacinity.

I visited the area the other day and it is like stepping back in time.

I am collating information on the Sleafords and would be delighted to have any information you have. I will of course reciprocate.

I have found a Joseph Sleaford, married Shane Sleaford, both from Scothern. their sonn George Sleaford, emigrated to the Netherlands and he died 2 june 1919 in The Hague.
My wyfe's mother was also a Sleaford a grand grand dother of Joseph Sleaford from Scothern. I'm searching for the birthdates of George Sleaford and his parents.
