My grandfather was Richard Sliger and my great grandparents were Adam Jr and Catherine. I wish I had more information on Adam and Catherine but I don't other than what is in the family book. What type of information are you looking for (if you haven't found it yet). I do still have cousins in TN and 3 of Richard's kids (my mom being one) are still alive.

Patricia Schubring

Hi!
This is a real old inquiry I hope you are still active on this email.
HI!
My name is Dianne Louise Fox Osmundsen my grandmother was Ola Essie Sliger Essary. My mother is Shirley Ruth Essary Fox and her sister just died after Christmas 2008 and her name was Doris Louie Simpler (Simpler was her 3rd marriage). My grandmothers grandparents were Oregon De Cal Spears (OD) and Harriet Evan Spears both born in Tennesee they settled in Texas. OD earned his living hauling freight for families moving to Oregon, California etc. OD & Harriet's daughter Ola's mother was Caldonia Spears (Callie)born March 1, 1885 and died Feb. 1938. I don't know a lot more except I believe Callie was born in Commachee, Texas and died in Anaheim, CA.
It would be real cool to know more about Callie.
My email is aosmundsen@roadrunner.com
Charles Franklin Sliger descendants

I'm a descendant through Charles Franklin Sliger and Sarah Willett. Until recently beginning my geneological research, the only information I had on the Sligers was that Louisa Sliger was my grandmother and her ancestor was Jeanette Barr, mother of Sarah Cloyd (1777-1849, wife of Christopher Christian Sliger). I have found some listings through message boards of the descendancy from Charles and Sarah, but there are conflicting dates. If anyone has verified information on any of the descendants, can suggest a resource, or know where a book about the Sligers (mentioned in one message board I ran across), I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks-
Mona
Thanks.
Christina Sliger b. Abt 1845 Cumberland Valley, Bedford County, PA - who are her parents?

I am trying to find the parents of Christina (or Christiana) Sliger born abt. 1845 in Cumberland Valley Township, Bedford County, PA. She appears for the first time in the 1850 census at the age of 5 as Christiana Dickens but from searching, I believe that her name should be Christina Sliger, and that the census taker just listed her last name as that of the family she was living with. She is found in 1850 living with Moses Dicken (spelled Dickens in this census) and Elizabeth (Brill) Dicken and their son, Moses Jr. She then appears in the 1860 census, also living with Moses and Elizabeth (Brill) Dicken (spelled Dickin), but this time she is listed as Christina Sliger...and there is now a John Wigfield (I have yet to identify him) living with them, who is listed as "Farm Laborer".

I believe that Moses and Elizabeth (Brill) Dicken are Christina's grandparents...and on one of the family trees on ancestry.com, Christina is listed as the child of Frederick Sliger and Rebecca (Dicken) Sliger. Rebecca (Dicken) Sliger died in 1845...which would make it plausible that as a baby, Christina would be sent to live with her grandparents. However, there is no mention anywhere I can find, that Frederick Sliger and Rebecca had more than 1 daughter, and that daughter is listed as Ellen Katherine Sliger, born in 1842 who later married Francis Marion Elliott. Since Moses and Elizabeth (Brill) Dicken had many children, it is also possible that Christina is a child of one of those children (she is not listed as one, though)...or that she is simply someone entirely different.

If there is anyone out there than can help me understand this puzzle, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have an original postcard photograph of “Carrie S. Sliger”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1880, in Toledo (Lucas Co.) OH, and she looks to be about early 20s. She is pictured with a man, not identified, but surely her husband.

I found “Carry Sliger” in the 1900 census for Fremont (Sandusky Co.) OH, and she was 42 with DOB May 1857. Husband was “Leao” Sliger, a photographer. I checked back in earlier censuses, and found in 1870 a 14 yr. old boy in Sandusky Co. named Leonardo Sliger, so this was surely the name.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Carrie S.
Lisa -

I don't know how far you got in your research, but here is what I have in my tree:
Adam "Add" or "Addie" Sliger (b: abt 1864) married Catherine Mackie on 21 Aug 1882. I have two children from this marriage:
1 - Bob Sliger (b: 25 Dec 1888 in White County, Tennessee, d: 15 Jul 1957) who married Rosa Price (b: 4 Sept 1886 in Putnam County TN, d: 8 Aug 1929 in Putnam County TN) ... their child was Ina May Sliger (b: 15 May 1908, d: 15 Jul 2000 in Cookeville, Putnam County TN ... she married Lee Roy Wharton b: 12 Dec 1912, d: 30 Jun 1986).
2 - Willie Sliger (b: 11 Jun 1890, d: 2 Dec 1925, buried in Isom Cemetery, White County, TN)

I also have it listed that Adam Sliger married Mary Sparks (Conley).

Adam Sliger's parents were Adam Sliger (b: 14 Oct 1817 in Washington County TN, d: 4 Oct 1896 in Putnam County, TN) and Elizabeth E. Miller (b: 14 Apr 1823 in Washington County TN, d: 17 Oct 1892 in Putnam County TN), they were married 30 Aug 1844 in Jonesboro, Washington County, Tennessee. Children were:
Margaret M, John W, James B, Sarah Alice, Mary Augusta, Josephine, Victoria, William E., Edna, Elizabeth Ellen, and Adam L "Add" "Addie".

Much of this information was collected from a book titled "Sliger and Related Families in America" by Della P. "Pat" Franklin. Carolyn Jacobson and Robert Sliger passed much of this information on to me, but I have done my fair share of research too. I have contacted one of Pat's children recently and ordered a copy of the Pat's book for myself. If you want information on how to do this, please email me.

Hi, good luck in your search. Mine has come to a hault due to my great-grandfather Adam Sliger who left his children of his first wife (who died after childbirth of my grandmom) then left his 2nd wife, was found in Texas and brought back to Tenn. then left again but never located even after his death. You can go to http://www.eastmojave.net/Personal/sliger/pafg16.htm
and find all of the descendants of Hans Frederich Schleicher which is who all Sligers go back to. If You think I can help please email and I will help however I can.
Lisa

Rumor has it that after fighting in the Civil War he may have run off because no one in this line heard from him again.

In his Veterans Record it says "left on battlefield of Murfreesboro, Tenn Jan 2 1863; left on field; supposed dead"
He was in the infantry and cavalry for the Union. His Veteran Record also declares his death in April of 1864...no body found.

It would be much appreciated if you have any information about this man. I would be more than happy to share any information I have with you.

Thank you,

Danielle - - gone2gig@yahoo.com

Hi Marcia,
I have William "Pierce" Zembower listed as Torsey's father, and Emma A. Sliger as the mother, daughter of Fredrick Sliger.
How is the search going on the White side?
Keep me posted,
Becky
