John L Sliter..

Hello,
I'm Roger Sliter, I, like most Sliters am looking for my branch on the Sliter family tree. This is what I've found to date on my branch of the tree.. Some of this may not beaccurate, that is why I'm asking for your help...

I am the son of Walter J. & Ethel E. (Brooks) Sliter, g-son of John Louis & Emma V. (Ledoux) Sliter. John, we think was born about 1832-1835. John was first married to (Elizabeth Adams?) in West Sandlake, N.Y. about 1854. They had a son, whose name I don't know (possibly Willard). In 1892 John & Elizabeth moved to Concord N.H., both to train and race trotters and for his wife's health. They returned to the Sandlake area after the race season was over. Elizabeth died some time later, but I don't know when.

John Louis Sliter really got around. He was a horse breeder, trainer, sulky driver, veterinarian, appointed to deputy sheriff of Rensselaer County N.Y., May 16, 1905, and elected constable of Sandlake N.Y., Nov 5, 1907. He also owned and operated the Vanderbilt House, Stephentown, N.Y. and owned and operated the Tomhannock Hotel, Tomhannock, N.Y. Unfortunately I don't know in what years or which was first. I've also tracked him out through Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and South Dakota. ( I have a wedding invitation for Pearl Adelaide Sliter, daughter of H. L. Sliter, to Edward Soike,
who were married July 20, 1908 in Aberdeen S.D.)

Sometime after Elizabeths death, he met and married Emma
V. Ledoux who was born in Redford N.Y. Emma had a sister, Eva, whom I believe was younger. I don't know where or how they met and married. Emma was a very religious lady. She was possibly a teacher at one time. I'm told they were married late in life, John in his late 70's, Emma in her mid 40's. They however, had my father, Walter J. Sliter in 1909. John L. died in 1919, Emma in Feb, 1938 at age 66.

My father, Walter J, moved to central Mass, where he fathered two daughters and three sons. One of which is me, Roger A..

This is all I know. I hope it may fill in a few gaps on 'your' branch of the Sliter family tree...

Given the above information, have any of you ever heard of, or
know anything of these people? I would like to find out where
John L. came from and who his son and parents (my g parents) were and where they came from.
I'd like to know the same for Emma V.

If you can help, or have any questions please write. If you don't know anything, write anyway, as with the name Sliter, we must be related somehow..
Thanks, Roger A. Sliter, Englewood Fl.
