Searching for Sloans in Cedar County Missouri

I am searching for information or contacts on the family of Thomas Jefferson Sloan. He was born in Indiania in 1825 but I do not know who his parents were? He married Lucy Ann Heckert and they eventually settled in Cedar County Missouri in the 1870's. Thomas died in 1877 and I am trying to determine how he died and where he is buried. I am also trying to find the burial place of one of his sons, Charles Grant Sloan who was born in 1864 and died in 1894.

She is not the Sarah Parker Benjamin F. Stokes was married to in Maine, he was married to two different women named Sarah. Have picture of Benjamin F. Stokes after Civil War showing his left hand missing and a hook in it's place. Also have copies of divorce papers showing Sarah Parker divorced Benjamin Stokes. This is information sent to me by distant relative, Rodney Stokes, who actually went to Maine and obtained records. I have records from Allegany County, Mount Savage, MD. My new email address is jmchris1@comast.net if anyone is interested in this information or can add to it.
I have recently began to dig deep into my Sloan side of my family and would love to connect with other researchers or possibly family members. Their children are.....

Lawrence Lonzo Sloan b.10/10/1897 d. 07/18/1957

Clarence Edward Sloan b. 05/02/1900 d.11/1968

Mary C. I believe they had a couple of children one possibly named Wayne and deffinately my mother Shirley Ruth Sloan.

William Walter Sloan b 04/27/1918 d. 06/15/1998

would love to connect with family members from this line as I do not know any of them. The only ones I have ever met where my mother Shirley Ruth, my grandmother/father and also their son(?) Wayne. The last time I saw my grandmother and mother was at my grandfathers funeral. I do know that my grandmother moved back to north carolina with family however that was in 2002.
Please help......James M. Sloan

I am from a Sloan line which is (as far as I have found) as follows.

My mothers name is Shirley Ruth Sloan who I do not have contact with as she left my brother and I when we were very young. I did meet her for the first time when I was in my early 20's however that proved to be a lost cause.

Her father was James A. Sloan (who I met twice before he passed) he was born 03/06/1916 died 05/10/2002 both taking place in Missouri. From what I have found in census records his father was James M. Sloan born about 1868 in Missouri however it seems the line was in Kentucky before that. so far this is what I have found in regards to the census...

1900 Tavern, Pulaski, Missouri

James M. age 32
Lucy F. age 26
George A. age 7
Hattie M. age 5
William S. age 3
Susan E. age 1

1910 Richwoods, Miller, Missouri

James M. age 44
Lucy F. age 37
George A. age 17
Hattie M. age 15
William S. age 13
Ada J. age 7
Jane W. age 5
Cleel (sp?) age 2

then I can not find the record for 1920 unless I over looked it and the next record I find is ....

1930 Liberty, Pulaski, Missouri

James M. age 64
Lucy F. age 57
Orval age 17
James A. age 14 (my grandfather)

Because there is no link and because I know how sometimes people claim nieces and nephews as children on the census I am hoping someone can verify these families for me. Please any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no contact with this line at all. Thank you. I can be contacted at mrs_mcadams @yahoo.com

Sandra

Please help me find some information on the parents of my paternal grandmother, Mary Etta Sloan. According to information I have gathered, she was born in Picayune, Pearl River County, Mississippi on 19 May 1891. In 1909 she married Joseph C. (or Josephus) Erwin in Franklinton, Washington Parish, Louisiana.

I cannot find any information on her parents. All sources I have looked at show "UNKNOWN SLOAN" for her father. I think her mother's name was Ada Livings but have not been able to confirm that ... or find info on Ada Livings.

Another source shows Sarah Alphonso as marrying a Sloan in Ms in 1868 and shows Mary Etta as one of two children ... along with an older brother (born in 1889). I do know she had a brother who lived in Oregon.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Sloans

I am looking for these surnames; Sloan, Emerson, Tye, Conner, Douglas and Webb. If you have information it will be greatly appreciated.
William Emerson, married to Trissa Sloan. They had a son, Robert Moore Markley Emerson, Born in Coddle Creek, NC. on Oct. 21, 1845. R.M.M.Emerson was my gggf. Apparently RMME had one brother, Lee, and three sisters, Victoria, Sallie, and Ann(married John Warsham).
I cannot find a Trissa Sloan and find several Williams. William had a brother named Moore who was a doctor. The Sloans are also a mystery.
Second, RMME married Mary Elizabeth Tye, who was born Nov 5, 1842, educated at Claremont Female College near Charlotte, NC, 1862-1866. She then taught school during the war until she married in Oct 1866.
Other surnames that I have connected to these places are Conner, Douglas(s), Webb.
Thank you in advance.
Pat Emerson
Houston, TX

Stratton-Sloan-Chapin family bible Norwich CT>Westfield MA>Williamstown MA>Norway NY>Leray NY>Michigan

There is a Sloan-Stratton-Chapin family bible transcribed c. 1931 for the Michigan DAR that links a number of Sloans whose relationship has been otherwise undocumented. I am transcribing some of it here because as far as I can tell, no one else has referenced or posted this. I found it Monday while searching for ancestors of Olive Sloan Lyon (1784-1863). Anyone who believes they may be related to this family and checks out the link should keep reading ahead, as there is information about Dewey ancestors several generations back.

PHOEBE STRATTON (dau. Of Major Isaac and Mary (Fox) Stratton)
b. abt. 1762. Williamstown, Mass.
d.
m. June 8, 1789, Williamstown, Mass. to James Sloan, son of John and Mary (Dewey) Sloan, b. Feb. 21, 1807, d. 1876

Notes from transcriber:
*Phebe Stratton Sloan died Feb. 9, 1838, buried at Evans Mills, Leray, NY.

*Clarissa Sloan is recorded as Clare in Williamstown MA vital records with 1780 birth.

*Olive Sloan married Alanson Lyon, died Dec. 27, 1863; buried @ Theresa NY; had many descendants.

*Isaac Stratton Sloan died unmarried; buried at Evans Mills, Leray NY. Tombstone reads he died Apr. 4, 1872; the above date of Jan. 21 may be a transcription error.

*Stephen Dewey Sloan served in the War of 1812; married Tryphosa Dodge (1795-1885), daughter of Joel Dodge and Sarah Brewster. Son Edward J. married but apparently had no children.

*Mary Sloan seems to have been the Mary who married Silas May.

*Trypheny Sloan died unmarried of consumption at 52 on Nov. 10, 1847; buried @ Evans Mills NY.

*Daniel Dewey (DD) Sloan married Julia R.
William Maxner Sloan

Hi:

RE: William Maxner Sloan Strang

My name is Gloria Strang Pruyne. My mother married James Lucius Strang, b. 8 Jun 1872, N.B., Can as his 4th wife. My father’s second wife was Annie Maxner Golan. Where the “Golan” comes in, I don’t know. She brought into the marriage a son, “William Maxner Sloan,” b. approx. 29 Jun 1900, d. shortly after 1922. Where the Sloan comes in, I don’t know either, but I suspect it came down from James Sloan and Sophia Elizabeth Maxner. (I would like to know if they had any children.) “William Maxner Sloan” served in the Canadian Military in WWI under the name William Maxner Strang. Annie’s mother, Isabel Annie Pace, b. 10 Apr 1859 married 20 Oct. 1877, William P. Maxner, b. 1828, d. 15 Aug. 1880.

I suspect William P. Maxner is the William Maxner, s/o David Maxner and Margaret Curry, but I can’t prove it. Can anyone tell me if I am correct? I have more information and details on this situation.

Gloria Strang Pruyne

Maxner, Pace, Strang, Sloan, Curry, Pruyne, Golan

I am looking for information on Elizabeth Sloan (born 14 Aug 1867), her brother William John Sloan (born about 1868), her parents John and Catherine Sloan (both born in Ireland) and lastly, Elizabeth's husband Robert Burnet, Jr. (born in New York).

I know that after her husband Robert died (he was hit by a trolley car), that Elizabeth went to live with her brother William, also a widower, and they raised her daughter Dorothy and his daughter Clara together.

I believe that John and Catherine were missionaries in South Africa, and that William was born there, but I don't know about Elizabeth.

If you have any information about any of these people, I would love to talk with you!

Regards, Christy

I've found out a bit more about my previous query.
Alexander Sloan DOB 1810 was married to Jane Gowdy on 19-5-1834.Alexander's mother, Margaret Sloan, born about 1791, gave birth to Alexander Sloan/Galbraith on 27-10-1810 , and I think that perhaps Margaret wasn't married to his father. Margaret married Thomas Jameson and had a son also called Thomas Jameson on 22-8-1819.
I can't seem to find any more information on Margaret Sloan. It's disappointing because If I can't find more info on her then that's the end of the Sloan line.
Thomas "Newton" Sloan or Thomas L. Sloan

Have been looking for information on Thomas Newton Sloan for quite some time and just keep running into brick walls. However I finally found him on the 1920 Federal Cenus as follows (index): "Tomas Sloan - Colored - age 73 - born in Alabama - Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas" - on the census form itself, it shows Tom L. Sloan residing on W. Eleventh St. with the following family members: wife-Eulla, age 51; son-Edward, age 34; son-Lonza, age 31 and his wife-Alberta, age 30; grandchild-Lloyd-age 9; grandchild-Conrad-age 7; grandchild-Homer-age 5; grandchild-Neal-age 3; grandchild-Beatrice-age 6 mos." He was employed at a refinery as a guager. The enumerator had put the initial "B" in the race column and then wrote over it with a "W." However, the "B" still shows up. So much for the indexes being correct.

Now the next question is regarding his age. Everything I've seen so far indicates he was born in approxiately 1855. If he was actually 73 (or is this a mistake) then 1847 is more like it.

I found the following 1999 post on Genealogy.com which says a lot in one short paragraph and if factual can put to rest the "alias" of "Tom L. Sloan" :

"You wouldn't happen to have in your tree a Thomas Larkin Sloan b.abt1855? He married Eula Louise Strong of Selma Al,dau. of Mr Strong and Harriet Eulet ? Strong. My grandmohter is unsure if Thomas Larkin Sloan was from Selma. Thomas and Eula moved to TX in 1880s and worked oilfield. Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Valarie Davies"

I attempted to e-mail Valarie but she's no longer using her listed e-mail address, darn it.

Question now is, does anyone have any information on Thomas Larkin Sloan?

POW/MIA Korean War, SLOAN

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Anne Arundel County, Maryland as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: Harold Sloan
Born: July 19, 1930, Caucasian
Date of loss: November 30, 1950, Prisoner of War (POW)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Sloan family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Dorcus was the daughter of Robert Rankin, Jr. and Martha Walker Goodrich Rankin. I think Dorcas married again, possibly to a man named Collique. May be wrong spelling. She might have gone back to Texas or California after Marcus' death. Dorcus and Marcus were both born in Kentucky. Any help would be appreciated and maybe I could contribute info about Rankins and Sloans in California, Texas and California.

Elizabeth Sloan b: ca 1725; m: Samuel Snoddy

HELP!!! I've been trying for years to trace Elizabeth Sloan back, with no success. She and Samuel married in Northern Ireland ca 1748 and traveled to PA; relocated to NC ca 1758. Samuel came from the Larne area of Co Antrim, but I haven't been able to locate any Sloan families that would fit with Elizabeth. Would appreciate ANY assistance Some Kind Soul could provide. Thank you.
Carol Snoddy Byler
csbyler@bellsouth.net

Charles W. Sloan born circa 1840,son of Rinehart & Lois Sloan

I am searching for any information on my great great uncle, Charles W. Sloan.

He was born around Zanesville, Ohio and is the son of Rinehart (sometimes spelled Rhinehart) Sloan and Lois ? Sloan. Charles had several known sibilings, their names are: Cecilia A., William M., Margaret J., Robert and Harriet E.

William was born January 10, 1839 so I believe Charles was born sometime around that time.

If anyone has any information pertaining to Charles, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Yours,

Jennifer Hatfield Knowles
JAHKANDY@aol.com
or
Post Office Box 23471
Waco, Texas 76702

Sloan ancestory

Weird, but true. I am searching for my grandmother Eugenia (Jean) Sloan 4/16/1911 TN who married Charley/Charlie/Charles Boles b. 1887. The weird part is next... Jean's sister was Georgia Mae Sloan who was also married to the same man. My grandfather divorce one sister and walked down the hall of the court house and married the other who was already pregnant with his child. Their parents were James Sloan & Phariellen Thompson. If anyone can help me with this mess it would be greatly appreciated. I have old photos labeled "Uncle John" and "Aunt Lola" that belonged to my father. Please e-mail me if you can assist. Thanks! Karen
