Hello All, We Are Family. I am George Howard Orr Slocum's Granddaughter. Grandfather and Grandmother divorced when My Dad was 3 or 4 years old and moved back to Colorado. Soon after Grandfather died of Malignant Hypertension at the age of 34. Dad never knew about him. The divorce must have been difficult. I just wish that we had known earlier so I could know another side of my Heritage. My Dad Looks Exactly Like His Dad. They could pass as Brother's. I would love to be a part of the Slocum Family. Now, I'm also curious about the "Orr" Family.

We do have a Charles Frederic McGowan son of John Bernard McGowan and Anna Maria Pereira who was born 24/09/1869 in Calcutta, India. Charles is the 1st cousin twice removed of my wife.

Let me know if this is of any interest and I will send you more details of his family. I do not know of his wife or family, but believe that he may have moved to the USA.

Mary Slocum Parker, wife of Hon. P.P. Palmer, died last evening at her home in Eugene. She was born May 31, 1836, in Louisville, Kentucky., and crossed the plains in 1853, taking up her residence with her parents in Douglas county, Oregon. She was married to P.P. Palmer March 6, 1856, at Wilbur, Or., by T.F. Royal. They passed the greater part of their lives in Scottsburg, Douglas county. Two and a half years ago they moved to Eugene, where they have since resided. There were 11 children born to them, eight of whom are living, as follows: Mrs. Alcyone Hill and Mrs. F.A. Perry, of San Francisco; Elzio E. Palmer. Manvil, Cal.,; Elmer C. Palmer, Ashland, Ore.; Albert C. Palmer, Alaska; Mrs. L.F. Earl, Gardiner, Or.; Mrs. W.L. Cheshire, Eugene, Or.; Mrs. Frank Schlegel, Portland. She was the oldest daughter of the late William and Sarah Slocum, of Roseburg, Or. The surviving brother and sisters are H.C. 1920 Cencus shows George Slocum, Ruby Slocum, Carl Slocum, Harold Vance Slocum, and Gene E Slocum Born May 12 1920???
Harold was my father, Born 1911 lake Charles, LA. Passed December 1975 at 65 years.George Lafayette Slocum passed in Houston in 1980. Ruby passed in 1990 in California. If this is my great Ante, I would reall love to find out about the family. I only have two pictures of my dad dated in the late forties. I sincerly hope this is one in the same person. God Bless you.

Giles Slocum (participant in Wyoming Valley Massacre 1778)

The above individual who is the son of Jonathan and older brother of Frances Slocum (captured by Indians fame). He is #239 in "A short history of the Slocums, Slocumbs and Slocombs of America" By Charles Elihu Slocum.

Recently, I was researching at the Luzerne Historical Society and serendipitously discovered Giles' marriage record to Sarah Hofs. (The Slocum book states her as Sarah Ross and does not mention a date). It was performed by Capt. John Franklin who was a Justice of the Peace on March 19, 1780 in Wilkes Barre, PA.

I would hate this unbelievable find to go to waste. Would you know of anyone who could use this info? There were Slocum family members at the annual Commemorative Ceremony at the Battle Monument on July 4th but I made the discovery a few days after that.

Hi Helen. I'm Jerry Rhodes, Howard's son, Irving's grandson, and great grandson of William Tyndall and Catherine Jane Slocum. Did you ever have any luck tracking down Catherine? I spotted her in a Fresno, California census report, listed as a boarder. Right now I am trying to find Edward's parents' names, to tie him with the Slocums that are so well documented in Pennsylvania and New York.

It would be helpful to have dates and places. I have Slocum ancestors but don't have a George L. Slocum. If you can share George's middle name, birthplace (city/state) and dates (or approx) and any other identifying details such as where lived, died, etc., that would be extremely useful to those willing to search records for you. George's wife's name, including maiden, adds further detail and assistance, if you can provide.

My daughter & I have been researching our heritage recently so this is great news to find someone so closely related. John Ephraim Slocum was Ellen Runyan's first husband. John & his brother Robert died in the sawmill explosion you mentioned. John & Ellen had three children. The boys were Grover & June. The daughter Josie (probably Josephine). Grover was your grandfather. June was my grandfather. June drowned very young in 1933 in the White River in Ark. Josie supposedly married an Irby but we've had no luck locating her beyond old census records. And obviously your grandfather lived a long life. Anyway, after John Ephraim Slocum died in the explosion, Ellen went on and married a Holland (Hea or something similar). They had several more children. You mentioned Mable, so she was a half sister to your grandfather. Anyway, I could go on & on but this is getting long. Please let me know where you live or if you can give me a call. I'm also a descendant of Napoleon and Emigretta. I've been looking at Elisha M Slocum as a possible father to Emigretta. Here is an interesting record:

For anyone that doesn't already know, here's how to get free copies of the Charles Elihu Slocum books (A short history of the Slocums, Slocumbs, and Slocombs of america 1637-1881):

Volume I:
First method:
1) go to http://books.google.com/books?id=DYJRAAAAMAAJ&printsec=f...
Second method:
1) go to http://books.google.com
2) type in "a short history of the slocums" (with quotes)
3) first link should be volume 1. There's a "Download" link to the right... save that and you have a copy.

Volume II:
1) go to http://www.familysearch.org
2) under "Search Records" menu, choose "Historical Books"
3) choose "Slocum"
4) The first link should be "A short history of the Slocums"; click the title.
5) On the left, the last expandable selection is "Printing version"... click each part and save to your pc. This is volume II. You can tell by the copyright date of 1908.

A Preliminary to the Slocum Genealogy
(found this on HeritageQuest at the library)
1)Go to "Search Books"
2)Go to "People"
3)Next to "Person Names", put in slocum, click search.

Zenas Ashley never remarried after Hannah's death. He is buried in Hope Cemetery in Elk Creek Township Pennsylvania.
He moved to Girard Pa to be closer to his daughter Desire and to find some easier work to do.
Zenas is a Revolutionary War Veteran. His headstone stands high on the hill and reads
"In Memory of Zenas Ashley a soldier of the Revolution Who died Feb 18, 1840 at 77 years of his age."
His grave is honored with a flag every year placed by the American Legion.

Delia and Della Slocum

In my grandmother's trunk I found a picture of Delia and Della Slocum who I am guessing were born in the late 1800s. They appear to be identical twins. On the back is stamped "Park County" (Montana?); many of my family were born and raised in Montana. There is no other i.d. I have no idea if they may be related. I would be glad to send a copy to anyone interested.

My grandmother was Nettie Helen SLocum who married William Richard Roper October 28, 1905 in Logan County, Arkansas.
They had four girls - Arlie, Nina, Vozie (not sure of correct spelling), and Lottie.
I will be happy to share any information I have.

I am related to John Jay Slocum, born 1839 in Walton County, Georgia. He married Rachel Minerva Stowe in 1875. John's parents, as far as I know, are Joseph Slocum and Nancy Diggs. Any info would be appreciated!

I have a few more questions to ask. My grandfather Grover Slocum mother was Ellen Runyan did you know her? I believe my grandfather had 2 sisters and 1 brother. Maybell and Josephine whom my mother was named after and a brother not sure what his name was. Did someone in your family pass away from an accidental death from a mill of somesort maybe a saw mill? My mother also said that her dad had a cousin Marie Bradly. I beleive she now lives in Georgia. Where do you live? I would love to talk some more please keep in touch.
