ELIZA JANE TANNER

Eliza Jane Tanner, daughter of John and Susan Tanner, was born at McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio, May 6, 1846, where she grew to womanhood. Her father was killed by the Indians in 1849 while crossing the plains enroute to California. She immigrated with her mother to Bushnell, Illinois, where she was united in marriage to Frank Slonecker, March 12, 1874. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Miles Kinnie.

The year following their marriage they came to Seward County, Nebraska, where they made their home and by dint of economy and industry accumulated a competence.

Here also five children were born to them as follows: John T. of Moorefield, Nebraska; Geo. W., who died at two years of age; Guy, of Eddyville, Nebraska; Mrs. Susan Nelson, Staplehurst, Nebraska, and Mrs. Bertha Stinette, Moorefield, Nebraska.

The deceased leaves fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Slonecker was a meek, patient sufferer, always ready to subordinate or sacrifice her personal ease for the good of her family and friends. She possessed a strong, well-posed character that made her a faithful and affectionate wife, an indulgent mother and a kind neighbor who won the confidence and esteem of all who knew her. She departed this life at her Moorefield home, January 24, 1917, aged 70 years, 8 months and 18 days.

The remains came to Seward saturday noon and were taken to the Chain funeral parlors, where the last services were held at 2 o?clock, conducted by Rev. W.E. Ludwick.
