Arnold's daughter's name was Glene. She and her mother, Jean, changed their names and moved to a new city over thirty years ago. Unfortunately
, Glene passed away suddenly this past September. Her 87 year old mother is in an assisted living facility. I think Arnold walked out of their lives around 1947 or 1948. They never spoke of him. I was a good friend of his daughter, a gifted artist and writer, and while cleaning out her house found her marriage certificate ( she was divorced) with the Sluiter name on it and decided to do a search and do a family tree for her mom, also a friend. She still talks about flying planes in Fremont, Mi.
I hope this helps.
Janean

Arnold Sluiter of Fremont, Michigan, was a partner in Fremont Air Service with a man named Seymour Dembinsky. They bought a WW II surplus Cessna AT-17 (a trainer version of the civil T-50 aircraft) in 1945 for $5,577.59 and sold it one day later to Gerber Products Co. of Fremont.

Michael McMurtrey
Carrollton, TX

I am Arnold's granddaugther, Karen Gasparovich, daughter or Arnold's oldest daugther Shirley.

I've spent quite a bit of time with Mom talking about her father and what she remembers. She would have been around 15 or so when Arnold vanished. Arnold had an liason with a young woman named Jean. We are looking for the daughter that Arnold had with Jean. Her name was Gina, we think. Mom remembers playing with the girl when she was around 3. Mom said that she was told that the Sluiter Family disowned my grandmother and the children when my grandmother divorced him. She never saw her father again. Any information would be a great help to us. Many thanks, Karen

The Sluiter family is related to my sister's husband side of the family. We have been able to trace quite a few; however, there are a few discrepancies. The family actually produced a book in the form of the old ditto machines. And was completed in 1955-1965 timeframe.

I sent a note to you this morning before my search. This is what I have found out. Henry Sluiter is the son of Klaus and Clara Sluiter. I dont know how if found this but on the 1910 census Klaus's name is spelled wrong, it's spelled Klass Shuter. I don't know if you have looked at the address on the census but it is the same address that shows up the 1920 census with the same wife. Klaus is raising some of his grandchildren Fred and Clara. What I found under the Shuter name is Henry (my grandfather), Annie, Mary and another Clara. Let me know if this information is helpful or not.
Kathy

My grandfather's name was Gerrit Sluiter who lived in Grand Rapids MI. He had a brother named Arnold who was a police officer, actually he called him a "coal dick", an officer who worked for the railroad. He was also a pilot. His brother disappered and was never heard from again. Not sure on the year. He never spoke of him but I know it bothered him. Ironically my mother and I were talking about Arnold this eveing and I thought I might take a chance and google him.

This looks like an old posting, is there anything new, I know my mother would like more information if there is any.

I have family with the spelling Sluder in Western North Carolina that have been there at least 200 yars. We understand that the name changed in spelling from Schluter ot Schluiter. Could that be possible? I would like to know the origins of the family.

My grandmother was Bessie Ethel sluder, her father was Robert Sluder.

While going over the messages I found your reply to my inquirey. I have a sister Ione listed as part of his family and I do remember the name Kirkhoven as being associated with the family. My grandmother who was the only child of Benjiman did not talk much about her family(s) background. We did know some but not much. I do not have any information about Ione. There were three other brothers that I have listed but do not know for sure if that is correct. They are Albert, Sam, and John. I did know that Benjiman did lose his mother when he was younger and went to live with relitives and then moved to South Dakota and worked for Hendrika Zuydam's father on the farm. He later married her in Feb 1900. Then moved to Fairview, Montana area where they lived and died.
