Really would like to get out there. Seems like a lot of the branches of the family tree come together there.

Just did that part of the family tree within the last four years and found Smead, Hoyt, Nims, Field, Chapin - direct ancestors in the family tree. Confusing part is they were so close - intermarriage - you end up being related in more than one way (your great [etc] grandmother is also your great [etc] aunt).

James M. Smead is my ggrandfather. He married Fannie Scott as she was called. I believe her name was Susan Frances Scott. She was born in 1858/59 in Warren, Ga. She died in Lubbock in 1922. James died in 1919 in Lubbock. They are buried at Lubbock City Cemetery. Fannie doesnt have a headstone at least the last time I talked to the cemetery.

Who is the father of this Laura Smead? My dad's Aunt Laura Smead was the daughter of James Marion Smead, the son of John L Smead. I think John L had an Uncle named John also. I have lots of info on James Marion's family. His children were my dad's aunts and uncles and I knew most of them. One of them was my grandmother Susan Aletha. Love to share this info with anyone.
For some years I have been searching for a lady whom I knew as Barbara J. Smead while I was dating her from Fall of 1949 to Spring of 1951, when she attended the last two years of high school at Shimer College For Girls in Mt. Carroll, IL. I visited her and her parents during Christmas Vacation in Detroit. I never heard from her after she left Shimer. The only internet hit I got was a picture of her and other girls in the 1953 University of Michigan Year Book. I never found a married name, birth, marriage, divorce or death record. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Kenneth W. Traum--krt@grics.net---1 815 244 3765. Fax-18665587880.

Hi Dede,
Frances finaly found the Schmied's in the 1850 census in Jefferson Twnshp, Swiz Cnty. Someone can't read. They show Frederick Schmied as Franck Somerset, living next door to the Borrell's. He was married to his second wife; Nancy, age 19, had moved back home. Remember, when Nancy Flake Schmied died while Nancy was a baby, her sister helped raise her, and then she was sent to "finishing" school in Kentucky.

Elizabeth Schmied Borrell is the oldest daughter of Frederick Schmied (Switzerland) and Nancy Flake (b. Penn; lived Dearborn Cnty, Ind; raised family in Vevay, Switz Cnty, Indiana.) Their children are Eliz., Louisa, William, Charles, and Suzan (who was raised by Eliz after Nancy died.) Susan married Rev. Rezin Monroe Barns and they lived in Denver. I am a cousin from that line. One of the Borrells lives here also. Most years the Smead (Schmeid) families have a reunion in Calif. or Washington.

I have been trying to find more info on Minnie Smead. Last info on her in 1910, she was married to Edward G. Collins and had a 3yr old son named James E. Collins. They were living in Appleton, Outgamie Co., Wisconsin. Her parents eventually moved to Wisconsin.

Minnie's father was James W. Smead born in Lycoming Co., Pa. abt. 1854 and his father was born in Vermont and his mother was born in New York.

Minnie's mother, Sally, was born abt. 1857 in Lycoming Co. Pa. as was her Mother and Father.

Minnie had a brother named Herbert D. Smead born abt. 1880. As far as I can trace, Herbert lived with his parents until he was in his late 40's and 50's. Apparently never married.

Minnie also had a sister named Bertha E. Lemiere (married name). She was born abt. 1878.

I need to know what happened to Minnie between the years of 1910 to 1916. The 1920 census shows her son James living with her parents in Delta Co. Michigan. By the 1930 census, James has disappeared. I have found several Jameses but have no solid way of telling if it is the one I am looking for along with his mother. Her husband Edward G. Collins ended up in Youngstown, Ohio. He had changed his name.

You can contact me directly at: belmack@aol.com

Thank you in advance,
Sandy

"After his father’s death, James John Eldred purchased his older brother Ward’s interest in the section 16 Property. James had married Emeline Smead, the sister of his father’s fouth wife, in February 1851, and the couple probably lived in the old Eldred Home. During 1851 the Eldred’s completed a new four story limestone barn west of the house."
(more on website)

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Illinois Valley Cultural Heritage Association."
I have three death certificates that I would like anyone to share any info that they may have on these people especially the parents names etc. Hope there is someone out there who can help. Here is the info off the certificates;

Harry Smead born abt 1880 died 2-17-1920 in St Louis MO. Says he is buried in Hammilton Ohio (I havent found cemetery yet), it also states he was born in Bellview KY. He was white, married and abt 37 yrs old when died.

Elizabeth G. Smead born 9-16-1870 died 4-20-1946 in St Louis MO. I am taking that she is the wife of Harry as they are found in the 1920 census living with Elizabeth's mother. Her death cert says her parents were William Gleason and Ellen Burke case that helps anyone, and that she is buried in Calvary cemetery (I'm thinking in MO). Informant on cert was her brother George Scott. She was white and a widow.

John Smead born 5-10-1875 and died 3-29-1937 in Jackson County MO no parents listed says on cert he was born in Kansas. Cant read the cemetery or burial place. He was white and a widower.

Mary Smead born 11-6-1857 died 2-6-1920 in Ray County MO. She is buried in Richmond City Cemetery Richmond MO (that is how I got her birth date) She was white and a widow and her parents were Thomas Thornburg (?) and Sarah Parker. Place of birth was Illinois. Does not list her husband name.
I have bit more info on Claud, Jim, and Will Smead, sons of Horace Smead and Eudora Nutt. There apparently was a sister also Rosabell, the oldest who died in her early teens. I have one picture that I just got yesterday of the whole family. Claud was my grandpa. Will, last know to be in Little Rock,Arkansas apparetly where he died.
