Joseph Smeltzer, in Washington Indiana in 1904
I am seeking descendants of Joseph Smeltzer (Schmelzer) who signed the death certificate of my grandmother Frances Philumena "Minnie" Smeltzer married to Charles Christ.
Minnie was Joseph's sister. Their parents are Anselm Schmelzer and Margarethe Keller of Fairfield County, Ohio and their grandparents were Jacob Blazius Schmelzer and Maria Walburga Christ (no known relation to Charles Christ), also of Fairfield County, Ohio.
Minnie's daughter Catherine Christ married John W. Scholl on Oct. 10, 1904 at Washington, Indiana.
Her oldest son, Charles Christ Jr. married Anna Mary Wedding in Sept. 1897 at Lawrenceville, Illinois, which is about 50 miles west of Washington, Indiana
The Schmelzers were from Burgoberbach, Bavaria, Germany.
Charles Christ is said to be Alsatian (France or Germany), b. about 1849/1850, immigrated to avoid conscription into Franco-Prussian War. He was a blacksmith, working, I believe, primarily for railroads.
