I believe the name Smid is a form of the Bavarian forest
name Schmid, which is in normal German Schmidt.
There were many Smids who left Bohemia, some went to Oshkosh,Wis. some went to Nebraska, some went to Minneapolis. If you go type in Oshkosh southside highholders into a google search, it will take you to the Highholder web page. There you will find maps,and lists of
names of people who came to America,from the border regions of Bavaria/Bohemia.
