My great uncle Courtland James SMITH, b. 4 Jul 1875 in Bellevue, Sandusky Co., Ohio, later moved to Indiana (we think) thence to Minnesota. He appears in the 1920 census in Minneapolis, but may also have lived for a time in St. Paul. He married a woman named Gladys ADAMS (not absolutely certain of her surname) and they had four daughters: Josephine, Beulah, Olive and Edith SMITH. Unfortunately, Courtland had a liking for a tipple too many, and his wife and daughters left him. When he died in 1948 in Minneapolis my father (also named Courtland SMITH) attempted to trace them, but with no success. The family story is that Gladys took her daughters "out west", perhaps to Washington or Oregon.
If this rings any bells in your family search, I would dearly love to hear from you!
