NEW BRAUNFELS, TX: Robin Eugene Smith, 85, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away at 9:29 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Sundance Inn Health Center after a long battle with cancer.
He was born February 7, 1927 in Zanesville Ohio, to parents Russel E. Smith and Louise Grealis.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy as a machinist's mate on the USS Henry T. Allen.
He later operated a sporting goods store in Zanesville and wrote a sports column for the Signal Newspaper.
He retired from WHIZ Radio as sales manager after 35 years. He was an avid sportsman and archer who loved skiing, bicycling and running. He loved traveling and some of his fondest memories were of time spent in Belize.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Lydia Smith of the home; three sons, Daniel Eugene Smith (Audra), Richard Allen Smith of Zanesville, Ohio, Timothy Jay Smith (Diana) of Norwich, Ohio; a daughter, Robin Alicia Hargett of Seguin, Texas; a step-son Thomas E. Matthews of Zanesville, Ohio; two brothers, Bill Smith and Ted Smith; several nieces and nephews, as well as many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; he also leaves behind two sisters, Sylvia McGlade and Mary Lou Brennan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Karl Smith; and a step-daughter, Cheryl Gray of Panama City, Florida.
A service will be held in New Braunfels for family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by the Heart of Texas Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas.
