Susana Rutha SMITH, born 30 April 1840 in KY, TN or TX;Daughter of John SMITH

Rutha, as she was called all of her adult life, is my Ggramma.
She is found on the 1860 Lavaca County, TX Census as Susan SMITH living with with James T and Malona (HALL) WILSON.
In the July 1858 Lavaca County Court of Estates, James T WILSON is appointed as guardian of "Susana Rutha SMITH, daughter of John SMITH and wife, deceased".
I believe John SMITH's wife is the sister of Malona(HALL) WILSON.
Malona HALL is the daughter of Berriman and Margaret HALL.
Berriman and Margaret appear on the 1830 Greene County and 1840 Sumpter County, AL.
It is likely that this is the same piece of property. In 1830, The Choctaw ceded this area to the USA in the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. The HALL's lived here before this treaty was signed.
On these two census, there are two daughters that are about Malona's age.
I have been unable to find this HALL daughter on any 1850 census.
Rutha married Elijah Thomas WILSON, Malona and James nephew after he returned as a disabled CSA veteran. They were probably married in 1867 at the Salam Baptist Church In Lavaca County.
They are the owners of property adjacent to Malona on the 1870 Lavaca County census. They sold this property and bought another parcel from Elijah's father William WILSON in the 1880's but I have not found them on any 1880 census.
Any help finding this "John SMITH and wife" would help me break throught my family brick wall.
Thanks for your consideration.
Ed Antonette

Josephine (Josie) Smith in Valley Park, Missouri

I am looking for any information and any relatives of Josephine (Josie) Smith from Valley Park, MO. DOB: March 18, 1876, DOD: January 28, 1949, buried in Valley Park City Cemetery, fathers name: Cullonder but I dont know if this was his first or last name . Her death certificate states her last name is Smith but on her homemade headstone, its shows her last name being Taylor. Death certificate lists the informant as a Fred Taylor. I am desperately trying to locate her relatives to discuss the possible moving of her remains to a better location in the cemetery.

Capt. Joseph Smith, Captain of "General Jackson," Nashville, 1818

I'm researching a Smith family in early Nashville, and wonder if anyone else is working on this family line.

I'm interested in a firm called Young and Green that did business in Nashville in the period 1818-1822. The firm consisted of business partners John Young and Samuel Kerr Green, with associates James Snodgrass and Isaiah Scott.

This firm was the first set of owners of the "General Jackson," Nashville's first steamboat. Later, the steamboat belonged to William Carroll, whom I find in records relating to Young and Green in the 1818-1822 period.

Isaiah Scott drowned in 1820 from the steamboat "General Jackson."

Joseph Smith was the first captain of the "General Jackson." He married Elizabeth Eakins in Nashville on 31 Aug. 1820. He is buried in Nashville City Cem. with a tombstone stating that he was born in 1787 and died 28 Feb. 1837.

John Young was born 22 Feb. 1797 and died 3 Oct. 1876 in Henry Co., where he's buried in House Cemetery. Around 1820, he married in Nashville to Caroline Sommerville, daughter of John Sommerville and Elizabeth Chisholm. Caroline was born 26 Jan. 1797 and died 10 Oct. 1822 in Nashville, where she's buried in the Nashville City Cem.

Samuel Kerr Green is my ancestor. He was born in 1790 in 1860, son of John Green and Jane Kerr. He was in Nashville from around 1818 to 1822, and then moved to New Orleans, where he married Eliza Jane Smith about 1822. Was she related to Joseph Smith?

I have accumulated quite a bit of information on the firm of Young and Green and its activities in the period 1818-1822. I'd like very much to be in touch with anyone working on these families or on this firm.

I am looking for information on the parents of my great grandmother Florence h smith, who married John c Wertman.

Per the census, her dad is John Calvin ( b 1852 ) and Sarah ( born 1856 or 1857 ). He was a railroad man. His father was John ( born 1818 ) who was married to Mary Ann ( born 1820 ). They might have moved to muncy but John Calvin and Florence were born there.

John was a carpenter and then a boat builder/repairer. They lived with a Daniel blue for some time but I can't find a link there either.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Re: Smith's in Pittsylvania Co., VA

I don't know what to make of all this either with George K. Am working diligently on the connection. No I have not been to VA to check out cemeteries. Although I will be going in March and plan to do research in the VA library. The microfilm of information on Smith/Nuckles (sp) is there and I want to review it. Am waiting for some PERSI information and have obtained a number of microfilm rolls from the VA library and will be looking at those this weekend. My line goes through George and Eliza, to Ralph and then to George K. Did I miss someone in there? I do have pictures of George and Eliza and one other guy who I never asked my grandmother about. I am going to guess it's Ralph Smith. He looks just like my grandmother. But to tell you the truth, the guy doesn't look like George nor Eliza. So that's that for family resemblances.
My goal is to join the DAR. If not through this direct line, then through Adkins or Wright. The DAR information doesn't even show George K as a son of Beheathaland. Honestly, I wonder if there is some cover up. Seems William Smith Notes have a remark about George Smith being George Ks father. But Towler Anderson made a remark in enclosures that this is some err. Cryptic. I also ran into an Anderson reference to George K when I googled Beheathaland. Odd, cause it never came up for George K Smith. This person has listed George K as George Smith's son. I have not heard back, my e mail probably went to spam, for any hard evidence of this fact. I hope for a response.

Henry Albert & Clara Edith (Brubaker) Smith

My great-great-aunt was Clara Edith (Brubaker) Smith. She was born 1885 in Kansas and married Henry Albert Smith.

All I have are family notes that say she married Henry. I would like to verify if this is true, and if so, perhaps get a bit more information on them both.

I have a few pictures of Edith that I'm willing to share, and I'm hoping that someone else has pictures of her and her family as well.

I can be e-mailed at hornchrissy@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Thomas Smith Arkansas

Thomas Smith was born April 1870 in Arkansas.

He married Amanda Caldonia "Dona" McGuire abt 1901 in Arkansas most likely Craighead. I personally cannot find the record of their marriage.

three things are certain.

1900 Census Thomas b. April 1870 is located in Maumell, Craighead County, Arkansas (Baytown) working as a farm laborer for the John P. Taylor Family. another laborer in this family is Edmond Frizzell.

Thomas had a cousin named Angeline she married Zacahriah McGuire abt 1886 in Arkansas most likely in Craighead County I cannot find the record. Angeline is the Step Mother of Amanda C. McGuire

Zach, "Angeli", and Amanda C McGuire are located 1900 in Maumell, Craighead County, Arkansas (Baytown). In 1900 Angeli and Zach had four children of their own.

1910 Census we have

Thomas Smith born about 1871 with Dona born about 1881 and their oldest son Breford born about 1902

1920 Census we have

Thomas Smith born about 1871 with Mandy born about 1882 and there oldest son born about 1901 it looks like it says 11 but its not 11 its just hard to read it either says 19 or 21. the census records dont get written down unorganized. Oldest child first youngest child last.

I do not know when Thomas Smith died. some have a record for 1925. I cannot find the actual record.

NOW

Who is his dad and mom?

Remember he is white. In arkansas there is a lot of Black people so be sure to check the color of the people when tracing there line.

we have 1920, 1910, 1900 all say his birth is 1871/1870

where is he in 1880? that is the question.

One thing is Certain. He was born in Arkansas this is according to all three census records.

BUT.

1920 says his father was born in Illinois also his mother...

1910 says his father was born in Arkansas and also his mother...

1900 says his father was born in Tennessee and also his mother...

hmmmm...

Who is his father?

A grandson of Thomas Smith has Taken a DNA Test.

The result is a 25/25 exact match with the Smith Family from Montgomery County Virginia.

Jacob Smith married Mary Shockey in Montgomery County Virginia July 15th 1796 they had three sons that I know of for certain.

Abraham Smith born 1800, Henry Smith born 1802, Jacob Smith born abt 1805.

descendants of these three sons went to:

Cabell County Virginia (Now West Virginia), Wayne County Virginia (Now West Virginia), Pike County Kentucky, Boyd County Kentucky, Lawrence County Ohio, Indiana, Texas and Oklahoma all before 1900.

Luckily for this family we have a biography written By Henry Smiths grandsons Henry :) and Burwell Harvey.

Jacob born 1805 had two sons that went west and had not been heard from.

Henry Smith born 1802 descendants that went west.

Who is the Common Ancestor Between Thomas Smith born April 1870 and Jacob Smith of Montgomery County Virginia?

I encourage anyone and everyone to take a Y-DNA test if your Family is in Arkansas in 1880s.

These are some possibilities for the father of Thomas.

one is Henry Smith born about 1836 in Arkansas

one is Andrew Smith born about 1824 in Kentucky (though not likely this line might have already taken a DNA test.)

one is William Smith born about 1845 in Tennessee

one is James Smith born about 1848 in Missouri (might be but not likely his Thomas Smith is said to be 5 months old in 1870 but it says he was born in December ours is born in April according to the 1900 census)

or his brother Randolph (Randle) Smith born in Missouri. (maybe it does say though that this Thomas Smith born about 1871 with Randle in Izard Arkansas in 1880 the relationship status is left blank Randle is a widow in 1880 his wife was Nancy)

(If James or Randolph is the father of Thomas than Thomas ancstor would be Randolph Smith born 1795 in Virginia)

As i look more i will offer more possibilities and hopefully we can get to the end of this.

please email me if you have anything. mr.smith2@verizon.net
