Smoot name nationality?

Just where did the Smoots originally come from before they came to America? My husband traces back to Lucinda Samantha Smoot who married Benjamin B. Claborn. They were married in Sebastian County , Arkansas and eventually ended up in Oklahoma around the McAlister/ Wilberton area. Does anyone know who her parents were? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
