Bealer Smotherman
Services for Dr. Bealer Smotherman, 79 of 1020 E. Lytle St., who died Sunday of a stroke at Murfreesboro Health Care Center, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jennings & Ayers Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The Reverends John Williams, Woodward Adams and John Sessoms Jr. will officiate.
His parents were the late Thomas and Lillie Overall Smotherman.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Wiley Smotherman of Murfreesboro; a son, Mark Smotherman of Clemson, S.C.; a brother, Estill Smotherman of Mansfield, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Lewis (Lervenia) Davidson of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren, John and Sara Elizabeth Smotherman.
Pallbearers will be Ed Yeargan, Oliver Yeargan Jr., Raymond Yeargan, Ed Smotherman, Ed Delbridge, Ben Womack, Everett McGehee and Nance Jordan. Honorary pallbearers will be Baxter Hobgood, W. H. Westbrooks, Sam Ingram, Ralph White, W. E. Delbridge, Ed Voorhies, Dr. Radford Smith, Gene Sloan, Frank Womack and Melvin Vaught.
A member of the First United Methodist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran, he was a former county school superintendent and a retired MTSU educator.
Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jennings & Ayers Chapel.
